You did it! You broke the curse and became the first Sentai Retrospective to break past the Sun Vulcan barrier! Onward to the team with some of the prettiest helmets, and the death of the Isinomori scarf with Goggle-V!
'The Machine Empire on the North Pole" Well good to know what the Machine Empire was like before King Mondo and his family took over. I'm sure if I watched Ohranger I could make a better joke.
Amazing video as always! I have found memories of Sun Vulcan, mainly because of the early darker episodes involving the Dark Q, which I loved as a concept, and the final arc. Queen Hedrian's successful coup, followed by the psychological warfare that the omnipotent god did on her which culminated in her being paranoid and having a heart attack was great! Also, Amazon Killer becomes the ruler but the Zero Girls not obeying her since she is an outsider, outright refusing to help her and just watching her during her final battle with Sun Vulcan. That being said, I do agree that the stretch of episodes between the Dark Q being fazed out and the last arc are very monotonous and not great. But you have to take into account that Sun Vulcan was one of the first show sentai to ever be fully subbed, and coming on the heels of Showa Kamen Rider, where monotony is the norm, I found it refreshing. I do agree that other Sentai like Denziman were way better after I was able to watch them. Just a little correction: Queen Hedrian did not die offscreen, she died on episode 49, a labcoat Machinemen is listening to her heart since it's getting weaker, until it stops and he pronounces her dead. It's then that Amazon Killer decides to assume the throne.
Interestingly according to an interview with the Bioman cast on Yasuhisa Furuhara (Go-on Red's actor)'s channel, the whole "Going into Nasa" plotline was so infamous that behind the scenes they still referred to characters being abruptly written out as "going to Nasa" a few years after.
8:25 To explain why Misa never became a Sun Vulcan is because they didn't want to lose the pun of the "Sun" Vulcan as San means Three in japanese, though funny that "Go"-Onger(it doesn't mean 5) ended with 7, and then "Kyu"ranger(meaning 9) ended with 12, so they really didn't really care for numbers names lmao
So i have to say im glad you called out that one actor, and thank you for another fun video i know what watching a season of sentai is hard and it is harder when it is a season that you don't like. Take you time in finally the series and thank you again for your hard work.
I wish Toei, would this again have a season that actually has continuity with the past shows instead of acting like they never happened. Also, I wouldn't call it a failure, giving how Sentai is still going. I'm surprised Japan wasn't burnout on Goranger halfway through, but yes, Sun Vulcan is definitely an underrated gem. 🌞🖖😇🔞💎
@kennethwilson9970 fair enough. I think a big problem with franchises that have been running this long is that continuity is bound to get extremely messy. It does seem that Sentai for the most part does respect continuity unlike certain other franchises.
Man, i was really missing out by ignoring the other videos. Usually i'd find yet another rehash of the History Of Power Rangers formula to be hacky and bad, but you make the difference by actually putting in the research and talking about the show in a way that shows that you watched it, rather than just being a wikipedia summary. As someone with too much of a gen z attention span to get into many pre-zyu seasons, i'm excited to see where these go next.
This had high ratings? Never knew that Anyways the American adaptation of sun Vulcan Is power rangers sun Vulcan (other creative names you can come with let me know) We start with a pilot discover something in the North Pole a machine? I'm currently watching Super Sentai for the first time in order and recently finished this one. As someone who genuinely enjoyed this show here are some reasons why. 1: Having only three rangers makes this season more memorable and the fact we don't get a female ranger never bothered me because the majority of the villains are woman which gives this season a boys vs girls vibe. 2: Speaking of villains, I love the machine empire and I've have spent a lot of time theorizing about what the Omnipotent God is. He's also the only villain from what I seen that uses both science and mysticism to achieve his goals. 3: The teams mentor oozes coolness and the fact he stars in a pretty good Godzilla movie playing a similar character is awesome. 4: I personally found the fights better then Denziman as in that show the constant rewinding the same action in quick succession made me feel sick, though I love Denziman better. 5: The show sets up the creators next Tokustastu Space Sheriff Gavan with the space pirate Inazuma Ginga and Amazon Killer being on the run from the Galactic Police making this season extra special. I have a few more but these are the main ones. It's definitely not a great season but I think it's overall underrated. Great review and look forward to Goggle-V though it's currently my least favorite season.
Supposedly Ryusuke Kawasaki only signed on for 23 episodes so it was known from the beginning he'd be leaving the show about halfway through, and yet they still didn't bother writing a satisfying lead up to his departure. Sun Vulcan is Showa era Sentai or Toku in general in its purest form. Yeah there were way better shows of its era. But I feel like it has the most out there mix of cheapness, wackiness, wanton murder and questionable writing (in all ways that can mean) that just screams early 80s Toku. It's bad and sometimes hard to watch but I love it for that.
I did like sun vulcan the theme was fire and one of my favorite and I liked a lot the suits but i wish we cloud have a female ranger i mean could be a 4th ranger taht would appear after like big one did or any other ranger appears after but still it had some good moments
Yeah, I watched Sun Vulcan a few years ago. You literally have all the same issues I had. Being a soulless Goranger ripoff at times, being pretty boring and bland storywise, and the sexism at times. The only Showa Era Toku series that I think treats women worse is Kamen Rider Stronger.
man if the shows from.before they added an overarching plot are getting hour long behemoth videos i wonder how long theyll get when we get to stuff like liveman
I disagree that the chef from JAKQ is better than Sukehachi. JAKQ felt super mean spirited in how it treated the chef, but Sukehachi is treated like a normal guy.
your critique seems pretty idiosyncratic, given what this show is, and when it was made; also, these programs were never intended to be watched in succession, by an adult reviewer, 40 yrs later...it's a show made for boys 8-11, on a low budget, with limited time, and limited writing staff; issues like you are describing are endemic to the genre, across multiple shows and movies, during this time period...I get it's kind of a clunker, but that was Showa-era took...not every one was gonna be great for every watcher...very few are going to meet the standards of modern programs
And despite that, I still sung the praises of Denziman and even Gorenger, JAKQ, and Battle Fever, which were made before this one. Sun Vulcan's poor quality isn't excused by the circumstances of its production when previous Sentais were indeed better.

Despite its glaring issue, I still hold Sun Vulcan in high regard, warts and all.

This had high ratings?
Never knew that
Anyways the American adaptation of sun Vulcan
Is power rangers sun Vulcan (other creative names you can come with let me know)
We start with a pilot discover something in the North Pole a machine? Then mistakenly awoken it the black Vader machine is called black magma (it gets better with the back story and figure the brain thing is I promise)
So black magma revive the old base so turns out you know the demon guy creates all the things that ended the Denzi race so he didn’t created it he “borrowed” all the advanced things is black
Magma’s and betray him and say it all queen Vader fault(hedrian American counterpart) and I know you have an another question how do they relate to machine empire from zeo?well.. he’s not machine technically (backstory later)
So he want to revive queen Vader just to control her and in spite of for screwing him over and losing slowly to her humanity and he want to blow up the sun to bring up a new machine age that only machines not humans can live so he comes up with dark plots to make humans lazier, replace their loved ones either they are passed away or just outright replaced them and advanced machiney to beat the rangers
Speaking of black magma sent a message on the international community so they come up with a plan to sent a cool general to relate with teens and a dog named C (she has the Denzi dog genetics) so she assembles a plan to make three people to become sun Vulcan rangers a person who connect to the general pilot ,marine biologist, and a hunter,a chef, and a commander daughter in training who has a personality to become Vulcan rangers and the Denzi rangers are to help you with your training and know how to become rangers (they don’t have any powers but that dog is familiar) and to find the Denzi princess with the help vul eagle he unlikable hero of being carry by his teammates and thought it was too easy but with guidance and humbling slowly become a leader an eagle is a leader vul shark marine biologist who is the study all types of things but lack confidence but becomes strong like a shark,a hunter who is strategists but he’s lone wolf but helps others when the time calls it he helps others and his father always disappointed him,a chef who isn’t good but finds another passion is fighting or martial arts (his vul bull is black and the only one doesn’t need an sun to function)
And our honorary ranger who eventually becomes a ranger call vulscorpian (like nya from ninjago)
And an sixth ranger is a weather man who find this stone that change depends on the weather however he transforms into weather ranger (his power is very broken he could changes the weather rain wind doesn’t matter and his own mech)
Ok the villains
Black
Magma: our main villain cold calculating and has a dark back story he used to a human but fall into a volcano his body is so mess up and did life saving robot body however with a cost his humanity his nihilism and form machine man only thing that is preserve in his brain and his soul (see dark?)
Queen Vader: she still has her personality however slowly loses her personality and become an actual cyborg
Zero one: so she skilled loyal and honorable and has the hots for ninja star so you know zero one and Amazon killer they are the same character like in Denzi (no zero girls just the one and Amazon killer combine)
Ninja star: basically the same in Japan loves zero one and or 2.0,try to conquer black magma but nope but in the final episode he survive this is going to be funny somewhat loyal to queen Vader expect not really
The denzi trilogy basically they find the denzi princess but she hide away because her denzi powers and guess what the denzi rangers are back turns out that c was a child of the denzi dog fought against the queen Vader for the last time after the two final attacks she malfunctioned and no more she’s gone however
So you that scene queen hedrian is haunted by hell Saturn well except he has haunted by her presence
In the final episode the rangers find out what their base is black magma is giving his all to survive so in order to do that instead of destroying the sun he absorbs all the sun and become all powerful and all red and hot and grows giant size but against all odds (also before you fought zero 2.0 but she defeated In the honorable way and dramatic) but I wonder you ask how did he got defeated you asked well ninja star use his ninja station the brain to suck slowly his power after he was defeated he came back for one hurrah and destroy the ninja star (he’s using his full power after sucking he was both defeated by black magma and the rangers then he turns all of them his minions into robotic slaves into nothing shell of former shelves but he’s half power however the brain in his weakness all of it isn’t real as the cool general notice and destroy the Brain he’s said “one day computers will replace humans you need us in order to survive now suffer self destruction mode” they run as quickly as they can they escape barely and saw the explosion only thing left was the black magma head and everything is resolve and someone said”someone make a film about this” then end
However a super cell is emerging check out in google rangers how is it I tried my best I am keeping follow the sun and catching the sun line that is too good to not to use

What hurt Sun Vulcan in my opinion are the team up plans falling through, even with Machiko Soga it didn't do enough to tie the show back to Denziman.
One negative thing of these retrospectives is that they serve as a warning for the bad seasons for people going through Sentai for the first time.

It's bad and sometimes hard to watch but I love it for that.
I also hate Sun Vulcan too because they didn't have a female ranger and I'm glad Toei only made 1 show with only male rangers so I won't watch it
Ok you conviced me i will try again watching Denjiman definetly it will be better than whatever those guys were trying to be.
Oh boy Sun Vulcan.
I really like the suits.
thats about it. I gave up watching this season real fast when I was getting into Sentai.
Oh man I'm looking forward to the video
Why did you make goranger short remake it😢
Great stuff, as always
I've been waiting for this!
I liked the intro to Sun Vulcan too. Everything else was kind of boring.
aaaaaaaaand WERE BACK

THE FUNNY BAD SENTAI REVIEW IS OUT!!!
I'm gonna miss the premiere because of school :c
I've watched every Sentai in order up to Go-Onger, and Sun Vulcan is still my least favorite that I've watched so far.
I did like sun vulcan the theme was fire and one of my favorite and I liked a lot the suits but i wish we cloud have a female ranger i mean could be a 4th ranger taht would appear after like big one did or any other ranger appears after but still it had some good moments
18:52 Ehhhhhhhhh.........It belonged 'Better' in the Super Hero Time Trinity's Little Sister show: 'Pretty Cure' It's right at home with that show.
8:44 oh so hes basically the dax of this show
man if the shows from.before they added an overarching plot are getting hour long behemoth videos i wonder how long theyll get when we get to stuff like liveman
Will not have to change my calculations
6:34 8:42 his other character traits are not to be fond of if you know you know.
5:29 Doctor Who reference for the sentai count it.
21:18 What Lost Dirty Deeds and Ticked Producers lie in the annals of Toei to motivate this?
Hey so your mic keeps cutting out alot
I disagree that the chef from JAKQ is better than Sukehachi. JAKQ felt super mean spirited in how it treated the chef, but Sukehachi is treated like a normal guy.
Can’t wait
Incredible job, keep it up!
@8:39
your critique seems pretty idiosyncratic, given what this show is, and when it was made; also, these programs were never intended to be watched in succession, by an adult reviewer, 40 yrs later...it's a show made for boys 8-11, on a low budget, with limited time, and limited writing staff; issues like you are describing are endemic to the genre, across multiple shows and movies, during this time period...I get it's kind of a clunker, but that was Showa-era took...not every one was gonna be great for every watcher...very few are going to meet the standards of modern programs
And despite that, I still sung the praises of Denziman and even Gorenger, JAKQ, and Battle Fever, which were made before this one. Sun Vulcan's poor quality isn't excused by the circumstances of its production when previous Sentais were indeed better.
Woah
HI
I said this to my dad before and I will say this again: "Not everything is going to be perfect."
