  • Managed to get hold of another 505 GTI for spare parts / donor parts for the other one. Thought it would be rude not to get it running after sitting 14 years!!

The condition of it is really depressing - but of course it still runs after 14 years! Happy to see an old Peugeot enthusiast relatively close to where I live as well!

Wow! So cool. I live is Georgia USA and when i was 20yrs old I found a one owner 1981 505 TD sedan 5spd manual. Creme with olive green interior. The car had 130k miles and had just had $3600 of work done to it including a new head. The cars power steering gave up and the atty owner decided he was DONE maintaining the car. I picked it up for $250 and welded the pulley back on the crankshaft. It had come off. So I fixed it for free and drove it 4 yrs before I sold it for $1800. It was awesome! Pretty quick with a strong turbo. It had no options. Manual Windows, locks etc. so nothing to break! I loved that the center cap of the steering wheel where the horn SHOULD be came off to reveal a secret hiding place. I kept my weed there. I would pay $5000 for that car if I knew it was still going. I sold it in 2000. Enjoy fixing yours! Please video anything you do with your pugs!

My first car was a 79 505 Automatic, 2 litre but the OHV engine. I loved it, thought it was the best car in the world. I learned mechanics from it, there wasn't much I didn't know about the 505 at the time. I eventually converted it to a manual after the Auto died, I remember you have to unbolt the diff from the chassis, as the prop shaft is enclosed in a torque tube which you have to lever back to be able to disconnect the prop from the back of the box. I did a fantastic job with that conversion but sadly, never really drove the car after that as I moved to a Ford and eventually scrapped the 505 to a 504/505 dealer.
Still great memories and lovely to watch this video.
ps, your starting problems were due to stale fuel.

Dude. Your a fuckin gangster. Old pugs really were pretty good. A guy i work with has a 1992 Peugeot diesel van. The thing just won't die. We had to weld some rusty patches up on the chassis and replace the drivers seat and the wiring loom is a mess with patches and bypasses. It had a few suspension parts from one that sat in warehouse after being totaled in the rear for 10 years and a clutch. Its just a wreck, but it refuses to die. 412,000 miles!
How do you get that Hillux through an MOT smoking like that? Awesome. I love Jap 4x4's.

Difficult to get Spare? Whilst the cars are obviously LHD there are still loads around here in Galicia, Spain. Most would be Diesels unfortunately, but body panels are usually in good shape as there is hardly any salt on the roads.

A 505 GTi? Hell, they're rarer than Diamond Encrusted Unicorn Shit these days! Always fancied one though. Recently got back into your videos after a little hiatus, so am catching up on your goings on!

Hi chap, well thats great to here you returned! Dependant on how long ago you watched, things have likely progressed / changed a bit! Thanks for watching :)

Darren Lobb Yeah, things have e changed! Last thing I remember was you guys bodging a tractor injection pump onto an old transit and working on the Mi16 head diesel! Now you've got a rolling road and everything. Totally different. Loving looking back through the projects and videos. You're a bloody clever bloke though mate, serious credit where it's due. I think it's funny that you guys are doing this a few miles away from me too. Keep it up!
