The world's most beautiful electric car?

- It's been a long time coming but it's finally time to show you all the Maserati Ghibli. This is a 1967 Maserati Ghibli and is the actual car that was on the Maserati stand at the British Motor show at Earls Court in 1967 to launch the car. But since then it has unfortunately gone through 2 engines before it rolled through our doors ready for a bolt-in electric conversion and following a gearbox rebuild it's now time to take it out for a spin.
Motors are dual Hyper9s from Netgain Motors. Battery is a 50kWh Tesla pack. - Авто/Мото
I'm Italian. I follow all your work on RUclips. Congratulations on transforming Ferrari and now Maserati. Many people will disagree. Many are very supportive of your electric magic. congratulations
Thanks, glad you enjoy the channel 👍👍😀
It would appear that you've got chassis AM115.098 which was the 1967 Earls Court Show car, which was the second RHD car built. The Ghibli Registry confirms it had a Tipo 116 (Indy) engine fitted.
I've found a picture of MSA 115 at the 1991 Silverstone Historic Festival - the lights in the grill hang from the top in the picture and it doesn't have door/wing mirrors either. It's on the wire wheels as well. Interestingly there's another Ghibli, in the same colour, parked next to it on magnesium wheels with door mirrors.
Very interesting. Thanks for posting. 👍
Excellent design in the "engine" compartment. It's not just a big, black steel box.
Thanks 👍👍
Wow! what a car, you really knocked this one out of the park.
Thanks 👍👍
One of the most beautiful vehicles ever made. It’s a credit to your companies products.
My favourite car of all time. Giugiaro’s masterpiece oozes finesse and elegance! And I think the choice of electro-power/torque and keeping the clutch/gearbox is exactly right for this GT. Well done boys!
Cheers 👍👍
It is a wonderful example of your craft marrying a star of the golden days!
Now we need the battery boffins to up their game significantly and then we have a long distance runner to make traveling by road romantic again!
What a dream… I’ll never own one, but I can dream :)
Beautiful! And you have eliminated the problems this car had + made it ready for the future. Job well done!
Thanks 👍👍
This is the car I've always wanted -- it's gorgeous.
Whoa! I love THE STYLISH OF 70s cars -Retro-Futuristic
That is super sweet! I’ve often wondered how a transmission behind electric motors would affect things like motor life, battery life, range, and all that jazz. I would find that an interesting video? Good stuff as always.
Cheers 👍👍
Maserati Ghibli 1967 EV - Extraordinary Vehicle
Amazing workmanship. Thank you.
Beautiful jobs lads. It would be lovely to get some customer reactions to some of these.
What a beautiful restoration / conversion, I am sure the owner will be delighted.
Well done gents - gorgeous car, immaculate job, and fun video!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. 👍😀
What a beauty ! I could imagine owning such a marvel! But without a gearbox. Hate such things since I drive fully electric.
Beautiful! I’d love to see an electric conversion done to a Citroen DS. It has everything except enough horsepower and torque.
There's a company in France that does them, they've even done a Chapron Decapotable as also a Citroën SM. One in Belgium too, they also do Traction Avants, converting those is apparently very simple and surprisingly cheap.
@@marcusott2973I need to see that.
@grandcarriage1 This one's built in the UK. The DS, to me, is a car crying out for an electric conversion. It's design and suspension were always let down by the drive train.
This is what automotive enthusiasts should be focusing on regarding electric cars. Trying to keep something alive that doesn't have good parts support means that too often a model (or even make) becomes either only a museum piece or something that rusts away in a field somewhere. I'd love to electrify classic cars like this for people to drive. I think there would be quite the market for those with money that don't want to turn wrenches.
That being said, what on earth caused the noise at 9:17
Cattle grid. 👍👍
That noise was a cattle grid. 👍
@DaddyQuattro "I think there would be quite the market for those with money that don't want to turn wrenches."
And also a market for people with money and want to turn wrenches but can't easily get their hands on the kits e.g. people in other countries like me (the U.S.).
People with money don't use wrenches, that's one of the reasons they have lots of money......
No, I think people should keep making the metal parts needed, by hand even, to keep the combustion cars alive. Because without the combustion engine, this is only a rolling chasis and a body of a Ghibli. Like a piano with all it's internals removed and replaced by a circuit board and some speakers...not a piano as such anymore.
I love that it keeps its gearshift with the electric motors!
This is an amazing rebirth/reincarnation of a beautiful classic sports car! And I'd love to see one of 1960 Maserati 3500 GT reborn electrified, hope someone will make it one day! =)
Fabulous - If only I could afford one I would, i'll have to stick my my Jensen Interceptor V8
02:07 love your custom connectors!
Thanks 👍👍
You are amazing guys... no doubt it is the most beautiful EV conversion ever, congrats!
Wow, thanks!
Another beautiful car converted to clean electric by Electric Classic Cars! If I lived over near you guys I would definitely bring a car in for you to work your magic on it. You guys are a high class professional company turning out products that are both innovative and careful to not destroy the cars essence.
Thanks 👍👍
Pssstt....electric is not clean. Electricity is generated by fossil fuels so basically each time you charge up you are now using not one but two fuels (fossil & electricity).
Hi Richard. Love your work 👍
Thanks for watching
That is a beautiful car.
Beautiful workmanship. Neat, clean and powerful. Great job guys.
Absolutely breathtaking
Thanks 👍👍
Top 10 favorite conversions. Really like how you set it up with original gearbox to shift it with the motor.
Thanks 👍👍
Great video. First time I've seen one of your cars with a manual gearbox. Brilliant.
Must agree, it's such a beautiful car. Lucky owner to finally get it out driving.
Couldn't agree more!
That’s such a stunning car.
That Hass to be the sharpest car I’ve seen you guys convert I love that car cheers to everybody works with you
Thanks for the comment. 👍👍😀😎
Such a relaxing drive. The only noises I heard (herd?)...were the cattle grates. 😆🤣 Yet another rarity made relevant to today's conditions.
Beautiful car.. fantastic work under the hood *(bonnet).. great work I'm looking forward to the next build.
Thanks 👍
@ElectricClassicCars silly question.. bentley 6.75 turbo conversion. 2 tesla plaid motors in line to a tremec or other automatic gear box capable of the torque? Just asking, 😆 🤣 😂 😹. And more Testarossa please.
Thank you. art of regeneration and engineering!!!
What a beautiful machine.
Ok I came into this quite critical, having driven the Ghiblis sister the Indy.
The V8 is such a beautiful unit, and integral to the character of the car, which can be made reliable and more powerful, by specialists if you have very deep pockets.
But I've been completely won over by this excellent conversion, including the reversibility of it, 160mls of range is also something you would have struggled with when enthusiastically driving the original V8 sucking down 100 octane through 4 twin carbs.😂😂😂
Thanks for the comment. 👍👍😀
Fanstastic job and beautiful.
Now do a Lamborghini Espada!
What a spectacular car👍🏽 and the build is top quality 👌 keep up the great videos and builds.
Thanks, will do!
Wonderful car.
I love this idea of converting classics electric. But calling this car in particular the most beautiful. But i love seeing how guys make all the electrics fit in existing engine bay and fuel tank space
What a wonderful job again, the presentation is fantastic, love how you set the battery cables to somehow remind of the old plug ones. Another classic saved and certainly improved, well done.
Thank you very much!
@@ElectricClassicCars I was thinking exactly that, too, when the bonnet was up - although it actually now looks like it's got a V10 engine...!! 😉
Mate, absolutely beautiful car! Also a lovely bit of work in the engine bay, as a fellow electrician I do enjoy seeing a tidy cable installation 😊 loving the special branded orange motor plugs.
Thanks 👍
I agree guys Its a cracking looking car
What a scenery!
Thanks. We are lucky to have this on our back yard. 👍😀
Great job with this beauty, fellas!
Thanks 👍👍
beautiful
The 60's and early 70s produced many excellent designs - this is one of them. I promise to give you a whole fiver if you'll align those headlight covers accurately!
Already done. Cheque or cash is fine. 👍😀
I wasn't joking. PM BACs details - but do provide evidence that you are a bona fide ECC employee/owner. Ta.@@spudproductions7606
The car looks massive. I never saw that model face to face. Great job Richard. I am surprised you installed a 50kWh battery in the room available without cutting metal.
What a beautiful car with an amazing EV upgrade! Fantastic!
I think so too!
This is stunning. Love the work you've done to make this machine the vehicle it should be.
Would love to see what you can do with an Aston Martin Lagonda. The electrics might become reliable!
looks really good under the bonnet!
Thanks 👍👍
Thanks. 👍
I've been waiting for this video for weeks! What a stunning car! Thanks for this video 🙏🏻
Regarding the lights in the front bumper, all Ghiblis I saw had it mounted in the bottom part. Regarding the door mirrors, from 68 on they had them...
Glad you liked it!
Very nicely done, Richard. You can see where the Mark 2 Ford Capri took its design cues from. But Maserati did it far better, and much earlier. I've always liked the styling of the Ghibli. Much prettier that the Porsche 'Squashed Frog' of the era too.
Stunning, and I really love the ability to change gear. Surprised by the relatively low battery capacity and lack of CCS though
Wow!! Very Impressive. Would love to have an EV like that. Great Job Guys!!
Thanks! 👍
A beautiful designed classic GT now equipped for the future! Stunning package imo 🐈👍
Very Nice!
The Ghibli has a lot of the Ferrari 365 and GTS4 Daytona about it, or, rather the other way round - the Ghibli came out a year earlier.
Nice quality build as usual 🔋⚡💪
Thank you. 👍
Hi moggy that for me is the best thing you can do with old classics. Electrify them. They weren’t reliable when new and certainly not now and for me I would won’t a classic car to take out on a nice Sunday drive rather than head under the bonnet on a Sunday. Yes a beautiful package of a car.
That’s the idea 👍👍😀
I was determined to hate it, but very really impressed with the quality of installation and that it retained its manual gearbox. Wire wheels weren't standard on these or the Ferrari Daytona as they were considered to be at the limit of the engines torque, so a more torquey motor could have destroyed them !
Crikey That's Gorgeous , 💯💯👍👍
Lovely car. Flip up headlight are a set little low in the home position and spoiling the lines.
Already fixed it. Simple adjustment. 👍
I was just being picky 😀😀@@ElectricClassicCars
Nice car. The headlight covers still need some adjustment, they close too low.
Yep, already adjusted and fixed. 👍
Stunning car, i agree better looking than the E type, great job you guys have done on this, love the detail.
The Jensen Interceptor would be my favourite from the era👍
What a beaut! 😍 Great work chaps 👍⚡️🇮🇹
Thanks 👍
Now that is gorgeous. Always hoped to see you do your stuff on a Maserati. According to the photos of the '67 Ghibli on the Maserati website, those sidelights should be at the bottom. So they're correct as you have them now.
Cool 😎😎
Why didn’t I come across this channel before! Converting classic cars to Evs! That’s a great idea!
Welcome 👍
I would LOVE to own a Fiat X 1/9 converted.
Wonderful
Purists will hate it, but I believe purists are backward fools.
Such a nice job done here, it looks so neat and beautiful under the hood, great work.
Can me has it? Love the Ghibli!!!
That is a great looking car! Nicely done conversion as always. I love the size of that rear window - I’m guessing it gives enough visibility to compensate for the lack of side mirrors.
Nicely installed thanks
👍👍
Absolutely stunning car and stunning build! I need to find an Alfa GT Junior and do the same…
Those ‘70s Italian cars were (and are still) some of the prettiest cars ever built, both inside and out!
Good shout with the Alfa. 👍👍😎
Couldn't agree more!
If I had the money would I buy this non standard classic car over an original? In a heartbeat! Second best looking Maserati beaten by the Merak. Well done guys.
I do like a Merak. 😎👌
It appears (after some research) that the lights in the front grille were on top up until 1969 when the Ghibli SS was introduced when they were relocated on the bottom
Nice work 👍👍
Good info. Thanks
That's a great conversion, I love what you do.
My dream car to be converted would be a Jaguar XJS (coupe or convertible). I'm looking forward to seeing your works ;-)
XK8 would do, too !
I’ve always fancied an old XJC. 😎👌
Yep, the last versions of the XJS or XK Convertibles would make great cruisers
I don't think it's necessary to maintain cars like this in their exact form. Yes, it's an important specimen, but given that its original engine is dead and long gone, there isn't a real issue with electrifying it. I agree you should still take care to minimize changes to it as you have done, but to be honest as long as you're not talking about an all original numbers matching example of a sought after car, it's almost do what you want.
Well said 👍
Exactly. Just like updating an old house with modern heating and plumbing. Not many people who live in an old house throw their sewage out of the window anymore. 🤣😂😉👍
@@ElectricClassicCars Speak for yourself! ;)
Great result, great reason for the conversion too. I reckon you could get away with a synthesized engine noise on this, taken from the original engine of course.
Good looking car :-)
What a beautiful car, and so well suited to EV conversion. I wondered why it had taken so long to complete the conversion. I bet the owner is champing at the bit to get behind the wheel of that delectable piece of automotive history 👍🏴😎
He sure is 👍👍😀
Awesome work and apologies!! When are you guys on tv, showing the full build 😀😀
On days like these...
The only way to go if you want to safe the classic’s 😊
You know it. 👍👍😀
Great Job....Stunning!!🙌😎
Thanks 😎😎
This is an electric conversation saving a classic car. I think that’s fantastic.
Thanks 👍👍
Thanks
Agreed, and in many cases, the electric performance is better than the original. Let's hope the new electric motors don't go "bang" also 😊
It’s now half the car it was, every classic car electrified has had it’s heart ripped out.
@@bobroberts6155 and replaced by a stronger electric heart
IT'S GOT A JB! YAY!! 😊
My 1966 Datsun 520 pickup is telling me to start buying lottery tickets. It dreams of going back on the road with electric power.
Also: have you ever retrofitted air bag restraints? I imagine that is tricky.
Nice job!
Thinking they'd be better getting a slightly different final drive ratio, if first is redundant?
Drop the rpm slightly giving slightly better range too? (What pontiac did in the late 70's for the CAFE ruling).
Great video 👍 If you want some Maserati info and possibly someone who needs stork sticker's give Tyrrell classics a call😊
Very nice
It is really a nice-looking and well sorted EV. What would make it great is if you could simulate the IC motor sound somehow.
(YES... see my later comment)
wow, astonishing car, how much would a conversion like that cost?
Wonderful work - big question - how much did it cost to convert?
Well when it goes beyond a certain figure, it's no longer polite to ask
A lot
It’s like the old Aston joke: what’s the mpg? If that’s an issue you can’t afford it
Great car, great video, shame about the black wipers 😊
nice car but could be a pain if you live in wales with the 20mph rules , great build btw
👍👍
Always love their conversions. Would love to do my Jag XF 2012, but apparently it’s too new to convert lol 😂
