I love when she is twelve years old and sings Stay and Millon years ago with an amazing guitarist. Also Born to die by Lana de Rey. I feel that those performances are often overlooked.
To me, this is the best performance by Angelina to date. The blending of her exquisite tone with the amazingly gentle sounds of the orchestra, combined with the significance of this event, make this a very special performance that will be long remembered.

I’m impressed that you know the origins of the song. Most reactors assume the Righteous Bros. version is the original when in fact the song was already 10 years old by then. Todd Duncan is the first performer of the song in the movie you mentioned, Unchained.
Angelina has performed this song several times now. At 9 years old on a TV interview show. Ai 11 in a home recording, at 17 at her September concert in Portsmouth, this performance and most recently at her Las Vegas concerts.
I think this performance will be recognized as a classic.

The only thing, I believe, Angelina wanted to accomplish with this performance, is to make you feel the longing Narges Mohammadi has for her twin children and to be freed from Iranian prison to continue her work advocating for women's rights. I felt that love with this version of "Unchained Melody".

This performance is very emotional for Angelina and the audience; especially, she is singing in front of Narges' twin childern, a boy and a girl, who have been living in exile for the last nine years away from their mother.

I was moved to see and hear Angelina singing in such an incredibly mature and charming way 7 years after the last time and in the same studio and certainly also with some of the musicians who accompanied her as a child, when she took her first steps towards his musical future. Yes, "she gives you hope". So true. In fact she is inspiring everyone who listens to her sing to have hope, BUT, THERE IS A CATCH. She is also planting the seeds of love into our hearts so to have hope and to make the world a better place to live for everyone it cannot be possible unless we begin to love one another. You spoke about maturity in her voice and there is something else going on, isn't there? This young lady is singing 'for us' and everyone in the world needs to hear her sing for them and they, too, will understand there's something else going on here. There will be a day, sooner than later, when everyone in the world will know who Angelina Jordan is. What is that 'something'? Your heart knows the answer and you can 'feel it' when she sings for you.

There are no words that can fairly describe how beautiful this was, nor to describe the elegant, lovely young lady that is Angelina, and this amazing performance...but I will continue to try.
Narges Mohammadi was the 2023 recipient of this award. Narges is currently on a hunger strike, while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian.
We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy herself for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations these two must have had about Narges in the lead up to this occasion. This performance had to have been poignant to the entire family.

I imagine Angelina is so excited and humbled to be performing at the Nobel peace concert in her home country Norway 🇳🇴 with the Norwegian Kork orchestra, this is not the first time Angelina has performed at the Nobel event the last time was in 2014 when she was around 8 years old with her arrangement of ( What A Wonderful World), also Angelina has collaborated with the Norwegian Kork orchestra before, once when she was 10 years old with her own arrangement of (Back To Black) and again at 10 years old with her arrangement of ( Summertime), great performance from AJ a masterclass of talent, great reaction thanks 🙏

Never get tired of listening to this version from Angelina. The context of the event is often overlooked, though. James Thiel has a great video. Here is a snippet: "In 1941, I signed documents authorizing Alex to use the song in a motion picture, so in 1955 when it was used in ‘Unchained,’ I didn’t even know about it," he said.
@@Bob_A8993 I will try to make this short, but having followed the crazy trail of stories concerning the two guys who wrote the music (Alex North) and lyrics (Hyman Zaret) since the late 50's, I will say, their life stories would make a good movie!!. Hy Zaret had the unfortunate luck to have at least 4 impersonators claim to be Hy Zaret! One, William Stirrat even had his name legally changed but lost out on getting any money when the courts ruled against him! He is the one who came up with most of the wild stories surrounding the song and the writers! It is possibly true that Alex did write the melody used in the song much earlier (possibly 1942). He used that melody when writing the score for the movie, "Unchained". He was a music writer, not a lyrist, so he asked Hy Zaret to do the lyrics. Hy at first refused but then decided to do it. The two did the music and the lyrics for the movie in late 1954, in just a few days. The movie was released the 19th of Jan. 1955! The fake Hy later said he wrote the song when he was 16 yo about a girl he was in love with at the time. Would have been in the early 1930's! When the real Hy Zaret died in 2007 at least 2 major news sources wrote several things which had been said by the fake Hy!

AJ has grown into a beautiful woman! She is now 18 and did her first headline show in Vegas in February. ANY song from that performance is worth a reaction, but if I would have to choose one, maybe go with cover of Hero (Mariah Carey).

I think it is very important to understand the meaning of this ceremony and the how and why Angelina was asked to sing at this event. It was not just another performance. This is a comment that Andy Schnell left for Arab Man (Bouty), after seeing Bouty's reaction to this amazing and heartfelt performance. KORK is considered to be in the top ten orchestras in the world. This was broadcast worldwide.

I thought "Unchained Melody" was an odd choice for this event, but have since learned the history of the song. More on that later.
Certainly, Angelina was thrilled to be performing back in her home country of Norway, where she is a national treasure, but this performance goes way beyond that honor. She first performed at the Save the Children event at the 2014 Peace Prize event, when she was 8 years old.
Narges Mohammadi was this year's recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian.
We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change.
In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time".
The film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run, or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release. At the time of this ceremony, Narges had not seen her now twin teenage Daughter and Son, nor her husband for nine years.
Why won't you try her English counterpart 19-year-old Lucy Thomas.. So many other reactors have found her..Much better than Angie..

Lucy Thomas is a pretty good singer, but she's a singer for musicals. To say that Lucy is better than Angelina is a matter of personal preference. I do know that Angelina is much more versatile in music than Lucy.

I've actually followed Lucy longer than I've followed Angelina and I agree she's a good singer, but Angelina is much more than that. She is also a very creative artist who both composes her own music and rearranges old songs in completely new ways that often make you understand them better than the original version.
Lucy's performances no matter how well she sings only reach my ears and I rarely listen to them more than a couple of times. Angelina's performances manage to get inside me and affect my emotions in a way I have never experienced with any of Lucy's and THAT is the definition of an excellent singer and performer.
