We don’t have any Kmarts in my area anymore 😢 I liked Kmart and definitely a huge part of my child and teenage years so very neat seeing this is! So many good stores gone smh!
This being closed for 11 years and counting, is surprisingly in great shape still! Someone needs to buy this building and make it a Super Kmart museum. Set it up to look the way it did back in 1995 (except for the for-sale products) with the shelving and everything else. So that the public can visit and younger generations can experience K-mart in some way of what it was like 30 years ago.
The k Mart in my town of iron mountain, Michigan. Has never had anything go into it. U can fully see inside of it. Nothing covering the windows. It's been closed for over 15 years now
If you head a bit west check out Island Foods in Island Lake, IL. Closed last year after being open like 50 years and little changed. Still fully intact and lights on.
Here I am at work in Sydney, Nova Scotia watching your video about a former Kmart while I am in a former Kmart that has been converted into 3 stores. ;)
It was great to see you film another KMART, Wallie! The scarring of the old signage was very cool to see. The pictures of KMART at the end of the video were great. I really miss shopping at KMART. I shopped at KMART here in my hometown Weirton WV. Our KMART opened in 1974 and closed in 2017. It was great when KMART became Super KMART. Eddie Lampert should be locked up in his prison yard and fasten him tightly on the fence and electrify the fence and have a correctional officer go in and turn on the electricity 3 times a day morning, noon and night everyday and zap Eddie.
Kmart's International Headquarters, which was located in Troy, Michigan has been Demolished. I,miss Kmart. I used to work for Kmart from 1985-1996, and the Mt.Clemens Kmart has Closed Permanently on Sunday May 8,1996 at 1:30pm on Mother's Day. 6:24
My old hometown. This KMart is where my family usually shopped since the old Wal Mart was a complete dump (thats where the Meijer is now IIRC). Even went to its liquidation sale.
My mom used to work there before they closed when I was little not all people who are still in the area remember what it was like when it was running i remember my grandpa taking me to pick up my mom from work and me running to the deli to see her
The Portage, Indiana Meijer is a former Super Kmart. You can tell it was a Super Kmart because that store still has the Sears Auto Center, although it’s now used as storage for Meijer.
Great video Wallie! Eddie Lamperts Logic, instead of destroying just one American Icon, being Kmart, let's destroy 2 American icons, the other being Sears. Eddie the Destructor!
Really good job, Wallie and I love the photos that you took and your friend took (at the end) Illinois is my home state, so I enjoy seeing abandoned videos from there. Thank you for sharing 👍
I love this style of kmart, hopefully it gets reused as something, I’m confident that it will since it’s in such good shape especially for have been sitting 11 years
Wow miss my Kmart I used to work at Kmart for 2 Years I was a customer service supervisor 😢 I never forget that blue light special I’m the one had to say it over the intercom lol here from Colorado. Thanks for the video 😊 and can’t wait for the next one maybe another Kmart 😊
Hey Loved the video. I though you're days of filming super kmarts were long gone. Also I wish you could come out here to the pacfic Northwest, there is quite a few abandoned places out here
Love the videos. My mom and aunt used to work at K-mart for a long time. The Kmart in Clio Michigan is a big kmart and still has all its signs up on the building. The other kmarts around me are being turned into storage places. Keep up the amazing work
I miss the Super K-Mart in Warren Ohio sooo much. I remember the grand opening! Their merchandise was great when they first opened. I could spend a lot of time at that store. It was cool they were open 24 hours and believe me I would visit at all hours.😊
omfg this is the earliest ive been, i love ur videos so much and its so cool to see "old fashioned" stores and restaurants that havent been remodeled to that ugly shoebox design. not enough ppl document them and im so glad u do :)
IMO If Kmart had capitalized on Kmart Supercenters instead of the Big Kmart stores in the 90s when Walmart was having a massive supercenter expansion, maybe Kmart would still be around closely competing with Walmart today but they didnt they focused too much on the Big Kmart expansion and not enough on the supercenter expansion in the 90s and I think that was a big cause of the initial downfall of Kmart.
I moved to RLB when I was a kid from Chicago and this was the first supermarket we would go to in the area and I loved coming here. Unfortunately as years went by RLB has been stricken w crime, gang violence, and drugs and many businesses began closing down throughout the area. RLB is sad asf nowadays
I had the few kmarts disappear in my area, but they didn't stay abandoned for long before something else took the buildings. Planet fitness and Publix bought out the old Winn Dixie stores in the area. The longest abandoned Kmart was in North Charleston near the Northwoods Mall across from the Texas Roadhouse where the "Rice Bowl" car meet used to happen back in the day right off of Rivers Ave., but was too risky to explore due to heavy police presence.
It's always weird to me how those lights almost appear green. If I remember right, I captured a clip of the Thornton CO super K where the lights came out greenish.... ANNNNd the little caesars was papered just like that... but even worse, I had to reach up really high to have a glimpse inside.
@@mr.fixit2181 Ah okay. Learn something new every day. I don't think I've hardly touched lights like those. I'm more familiar with the LEDs and Incandescent house lights haha
This is the K Mart my family shopped right up till it closed. Also there was a Sears Hardware and Appliance standalone store in front before they both merged. now i think its a Harbor Freight Tools. another fun video would be the abandon Regal Cinemas theater next door
Wallie, there is an abandon Big K mart off of I-75 exit 131 in Michigan, with all the signs still on the building and a high sign for I-75, and a sign still on the plaza sign at the street.
Don't know if you know this but there was a Kmart in Waukegan that closed around the same time this location closed. That location is now a catholic school. Just thought it was interesting to share!
I watched your video on the vacant Super Kmart in Port Huron, Michigan on RUclips. The aerial shots were fabulous, and as usual the content was awesome. After watching that video I was curious if you're aware of the original Kmart nearby that the Super Kmart replaced. It's maybe 1/2 mile or so from former the Super Kmart that you visited. A brief background - it was one of the earlier Kmarts built not too long after Garden City. I believe it opened in September, 1962. For your reference, the configuration is identical to the abandoned Kmart that Bright Sun Films investigated in one of their videos. It contained a Kmart as well as Kmart Foods (which later became a Great Scott! and then a locally owned grocer and then was vacant for several yeas). While I was away in the military the store underwent an overhaul in the very early 1990's. The store was expanded but never became a "Big K" as it was closed in favor of the new Super K Center when it opened. Currently the exterior is definitely identifiable as a former Kmart. The complex is now occupied by a Big Lots, a Save-A-Lot, a Family Dollar, and a Blood Plasma Donation outfit. The Big Lots interior made use of nearly the entire Kmart Expansion with very little modification, Save-A-Lot's interior recycled much of the original Kmart and is still recognizable, the Family Dollar was modified so not so much of Kmart remains in there, there is a gutted section of the original Kmart (see photo) and the Plasma place is extensively modified. The cross street of the original Kmart is 24th Street & Howard St. Port Huron Michigan 48060.
Man, I miss Kmart, I often went there as a Youngin myself, thank you for doing all these videos, as it also kind of brings me back to my childhood. Another store that I missed from my childhood is called marsh supermarket, I don’t know all of the locations they were at, but locally to me in Indiana We had quite a few and I remember my mom working at a marsh supermarket and I would always go there and get free cookies lol. As always, I love your videos, I cannot wait to see what else you have in store, keep up the great content.🤘🤘. Ohhh also you should link back up with Nate and do exploration somewhere,I think that would be really cool as I also miss seeing him in some of your videos. As always be safe🤘🤘🤘
I would love to meet you wallie i live in a small town called spring valley Illinois and there is an abandoned marathon gas station about 3 blocks from me
Where i live the Home Depot was a Kmart and it’s looks like it had a k cafe in it too it’s in Champaign IL and there’s a picture of one online and it just looks like the one you posted on here on RUclips
Hi Wallie, I seen your video of your Kmart items over the years. I was curious on how to send an item (to you) I found from 2000, I kept the shirt but the bag and receipt are in ridiculously good condition. To add to your collection.
Wow! Nice, good video this Kmart is actually near me I honestly just hope it doesn't end up like the reagal cinema that closed something about a year ago. It recently got caught on fire by someone who was doing arson so I hope this Kmart won't go up in flames although I'm sure the round lake police will be watching abandoned buildings a little bit more ever since the incident of the regal theater
This one was around 190K sqft, so it was one of the largest ones. However, there is a decent handful of stores that were bigger by a few thousand sqft such as Lorain, OH, Homewood, IL and Lincoln Park, MI. There's also some talk that the Euclid, OH supercenter was the largest in the chain (around 200k sqft), however some sources say 200k while others around 190k.
Wow! These Super K’s are starting to get rarer and rarer to find. They are tearing down the one in Medina, OH.
Wonder if Wallie will get a video of that one i think he has filmed that one before
It’s already gone… even the mini autocenter next to it is gone now.
@@camhowe349 He did. I think in 2020 or 2021
We don’t have any Kmarts in my area anymore 😢 I liked Kmart and definitely a huge part of my child and teenage years so very neat seeing this is! So many good stores gone smh!
As of February, there are only 11 Kmarts left in the U.S.

seems it easy for buildings in the USA to be abandond, here in the netherlands empty buildings are rare. and most building get reused quickly again.
