- The ANC in Johannesburg held its regional Lekgotla this past weekend.
It was during this Lekgotla that Joburg Executive Mayor Dada Morero suggested that documented foreign nationals would assist Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) to deal with language barriers when arresting foreign nationals.
This suggestion has since been dismissed by Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi and the ActionSA interim chairperson Michael Beaumont among others.
Morero has since retracted that proposal.

As bad as the proposal is: fact of the matter is that South African government is spending huge sums of money 💰 in prosecuting foreign nationals who commits crime in SA. Language translators and language experts are required to render their services and in the main such services are provided by foreign nationals in many cases that involves foreign nationals.
Then introduce language training for South African police/interpretors
