Jeff Porcaro once said, "watch closely and study each and every drummer, as every drummer plays one thing differently and you'll be able to combine your knowledge". Don't look for just the pros, look at this guy for example. In that final chorus, idk if yall heard but he's like accenting the ride at specific times and combining the opening of the high hat and the crash symbol to really create this beautiful sound. And I've listened to the track very closely, he's definitely improving on some of this track, but like the top upvoted comment, this guy just blows it outta the park. Sometimes I watch this video instead of listening to the actual song cos it's so clean.
Hence the band breaking up. Part of the reason they fought so much was because Copeland wouldn't just play simple back beats. Copeland needed to be free to play what he wanted and I'm glad he did.
@@tblack9711 indeed each player brought his own individuality to the group and together they created something fantastic, how blend sting's music was going solo by comparison
I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of Sting playing this song without Copeland’s presence. I’m sure for a guy like that - such a prolific song writer and recorder who wants things done HIS way - Copeland must have been an absolute nightmare. And for Copeland, I’m sure it was much the same. Clearly they also dragged (perhaps kicking and screaming) the best out of each other too. I’ve played drums since I was 11. I’m on the cusp of 41. My dad was a drummer. My younger brother is a drummer and percussionist. I’ve listened to and obsessed over drums and drum parts for my whole life. When I listen to music, I listen to it from the perspective of a drummer. What’s the drummer doing? Is the drummer doing what’s right for the song? Is the drummer leading the band? So on and so forth. It’s the first and last thing I hear when I listen to a piece of music (unless the drums are completely absent, and even then sometimes). There are so many amazing drummers out there with so many incredible drum parts. And I listen to it all. Heavy metal, jazz, Latin, reggae. Hell, Sting has even played with some of the best of them. Omar Hakim inspired me to start playing. And what can be said of the legendary Vinnie Collaiuta that hasn’t already? I’ll make my point. In my opinion, this is the most finely crafted, most beautifully arranged drum piece ever recorded. It probably did piss Sting off to have to wait however long it took for Copeland to finally come to the studio with this. But you have to figure that once he laid down his part, Sting must have been completely blown away. I’ve never heard anything that tops it (although this cover definitely did it justice). Perhaps for Sting it’s sacred ground. Maybe he saves this one just for his nemesis and friend, Stewart.

Watching this you really can see how masterful Stewart Copeland's hi-hat work is. Outstanding drum cover here... Sam really captures Stewart's feel. Spot on drumming!
this cover is so on point. this is my fav track of the police and I always look for decent covers and have been through several for this song and yours is the best drum cover I've seen. very impressive and very well done. you should cover darkness next.
Você incorporou/assimilou o estilo, a alma do Stewart Copeland. Nem mesmo ele toca os arranjos da bateria como foram executados em estúdio. Gostaria que ele seguisse um pouco mais as linhas originais da bateria das versões de estúdio. Mas ele muda tudo quando toca ao vivo... Parabéns! Sucesso! (Sou baterista também)
This is fantastic, first time I have ever seen this from the drummers perspective. fascinating to watch, impossible to emulate! Thanks for sharing your talent.
I thought I was the only guy who listened to the drums of a song when I was young and then later followed the bass through a song…it’s nice to learn that there is a tribe of drum needs in any population.
I must be responsible of a good part of the views there is on this video as I find it absolutely brilliant. I've seen a shitload of drums covers and I can tell that you are the best I've seen on RUclips. Could you, please, make more Police covers ? (I've seen Roxanne and Synchronicity II and they're awesome)
Whoever did this cover did a phenomenal job with a phenomenal song. I llove Stewart Copeland's style and how he uses so many parts of the kit, toms, cybal work and hihat.
Your kit is tuned perfect for police covers. Not to mention you were spot on in the pocket as well as the fluidity of your style deserves proper appreciation. 🥁🤘
..as a guitarist...sent that to my brother , who plays nothing ...but he understands musicianship .....he absolutely loved it ....great job ...cheers 👍
So bloody good mate ! I love the change in tempo just as Sting says "I will turn your face " . I don't think Stewart Copeland does simple but I love his style so much. 👍
Loads of Police drum covers on RUclips. All of them fail miserably. All, except yours. For the first time ever I can say: you nailed it ! Adding this one to my all time favourite videos. Well done, sir !
Hey everybody! It's been long overdue but here is my new drum cover video for Synchronicity II by The Police! I'd thought I'll give you some more Copeland goodness! Synchronicity II - The Police - Drum Cover
Great Performance! I'm sure it already has been asked somewhere, but I need to know: I guess the Brand of those drums is Mapex, what's the specific type of that drum set? The drums sound awesome!
Muy pero muy bueno debe ser una de las mejores interpretaciones de este tema. Considerando k copeland es un genio en la batería y cualquiera no toca sus ejecuciones musicales

It's 2024 and this drum cover still is "Outstanding" Bravo Sam!
How the hell did Stewart work this drum pattern out when Sting first played him this song probably on an acoustic guitar, mind boggling....
Hence the band breaking up. Part of the reason they fought so much was because Copeland wouldn't just play simple back beats. Copeland needed to be free to play what he wanted and I'm glad he did.

Thanks mate. Cranked her all the way up. Its like a gun shot!
Liking the minimalist, uncluttered setup, and the big, full sound you're getting out of it. Your hard work shows.
