The frets, neck carve, and overall comfort are the most important to me and binding doesn't matter at all. Pickups sounded good as well. No coil splitting isn't really a big deal either. I also like the headstock shape. PLEASE block the scammer telling people they won something !!!!!
Binding is subjective to preference. I prefer the less is more approach. I agree on the toggle. Everything else is amazing. Possibly the best value in its price range
I kind of like the no binding look, and no pickguard. Maybe just a thin gold pinstripe line near the edge of the body might look nice. The frets are impressive. Seems like a solid guitar at that price.
I personally like the look with no binding. Great value on this axe. Likely better overall than a Gibson USA Studio LP... at 1/3 of the price. I also like the headstock better than Gobson.
That's why I wanted you to review this guitar, especially up against the Les Paul Tribute, which isn't all that different. Would love to see these side by side.
I found your channel just as a recommendation on my TV, after the first video I subscribed and hit the notification bell, I've watched atleast 30 videos in the past 4 days...not even kidding. Love this content and you seem like such a genuine guy that isn't just trying to force a sale...awesome stuff🤘🤘
I don't need it but i love it ;) Blade switch was a drag at first but this could open so many roads,,,, Satin finish, set neck and a compound radius. I dig it.
Very nice looking guitar. Love the finish. And, sorry, but I'm not with you on the binding. I'd leave it as it is. It's gorgeous. But, to be honest, it doesn't sound like a Les Paul to me. In fact, parts of your first clip, playing on the neck pickup, were reminiscent of Badfinger's Baby Blue. Pete Ham and Joey Molland both used SGs for that. And, to my ear, this EART does have more of an SG sound to it than a Les Paul. If that's the sound someone's looking for, it is a great sounding guitar. I'd also miss having separate volume and tone controls for each pickup. I'd rather have them before adding coil splits. I'm disappointed that you've gotten away from tearing down the guitars and allowing us to see the guts like you used to. I'd like to see you get back to it. That said, thanks for showing us another interesting guitar.
I think I prefer it without binding, makes it look quite modern esp with the all over satin finish. They make some great looking gats. But yeh would prefer a toggle on this rather than blade just aesthetically.
Darrell, I really like your straightforward, honest approach to reviewing these wonderful instruments. Thanks for being an advocate for buyers and players.
I got a “parts”, Stratocaster for Christmas which is just after “deer season”, & I just walked outside picked up a piece of deer bone & made my Bone Nut! I stabilized the bone, shaped & sanded it then put in my string groves & in less than a few hours (because I had to let the bone cure), it may have taken me all of 30 minutes to cut, shape, sand & install a nice new pearly white “Deer Bone”, Nut! Great video & I’ve been hearing things about these Eart’s for a while now. Glad to finally see one demoed for me to chew on for a while. Great stuff as always DBG!! Thanks man!
I like just as it is. It isn't a poor man's LP it is an Eart just like a PRS is a PRS. I could take it to a gig and go between it and my Gibson SG Std. Ltd. Ed. and not feel I was dumbing down.Thanx for the review.
A cut for your arm rest at the front of the body, and a carve out neck joint would make this guitar the ultimate budget guitar! Thanks for sharing and as always excellent presentation.
I bought a EART guitar on Amazon and the frets were staggered. One or two frets would be 1/16th on an inch from the low E and then one or two frets would be around 1/16th or more from the high E. So I sent it back and got another one. When the 2nd guitar arrived, I was not able to set the intonation. So I sent it back. Third time was the charm, now I have a really good roasted neck and body with stainless steel frets, it's great. But from the time I ordered the guitar until the time I actually had a playable guitar, was about one and a half months. Return shipping was free because I'm a Amazon Prime member. If you order directly or from another suppler, you might be stuck with the return shipping.
Yes, your right. But some online stores especially Ebay will get you for return shipping sometimes. And be careful on Ebay and read the fine print before you pull the trigger, sometimes they don't accept returns at all.
I own two EARTs, both of which had QC issues. My advice is ONLY buy thru Amazon Prime. It's not that I love making Jeff Bezos richer. These guitars are shipped single-boxed and as such are more vulnerable to damage en route to you. EART CS is notorious for offering "$5 off" [which is an insult] for "cosmetic issues that do not affect playability". These instruments, though they can be a very good value [IF you receive one without QC issues or damage], are sold without warranty. If you purchase thru Amazon, you have recourse if you get a damaged or defective instrument. BTW, neither of my EARTs has a serial number. Which, in conjunction with no stated warranty on their website, tells me that acknowledging defects in materials or workmanship isn't part of their business model.
wow, those tones were quite pleasant. I spent around 900usd on a Jericho Elite that I absolutely adore: SS frets, SD pickups with split coil and just absolutely beautiful craftsmanship in general. there are still big name brands out there still selling 1000+ with no SS frets or nothing really special specwise. those cheaper brands are really upping their game and I love it.
I have this guitar along with 50+ others, and this one is unreal for the price. I always upgrade my stuff, this was one of my only guitars that is staying stock. It's got a slimmer compound neck that so comfortable for my small hands... and the pickups are Unbelievablely good. They sound so big and clear, and are really touch sensitive.
I have 5 EARTs and I love every single one, they’re all really good guitars, including an LP style with binding which was in the same price range as this model, so the lack of binding here is a stylistic choice imo. I think EART is going for the modern LP Studio look with this new model, and frankly, I love that no frills single cut, and I’m jealous of that belly cut, it looks comfy! Daryl, I’d you ever get a chance, check out the EART GW-2 headless travel guitar. I picked one up on a lark for a vacation/road guitar and boy oh boy, it’s quickly become my favorite to play!
As a huge fan of Alnico 2 pickups, I'd say it looks and sounds fantastic! This coming from a guy who's got approximately 10 grand wrapped up in Gibson's with the same "engine's" Love the ss frets! Thanks DBG🎸🎸🎶👍
For the same price you can get an esp ltd ec-256 which that guitar more closely resembles than an actual les paul. Same features except mine has a coil split and binding on the neck and body.
Hey Darrell they listened to you! Just came out with the "620" with binding and push pull. Almost bought it but love the plain-jane look and satiness-ish of this one more. Can't wait to get mine.
I picked up a tele style and it plays great! The neck is better than most of my other guitars... I just need to change out the pickups and it will be a great gig guitar
Isn't the binding made necessary by using vineer in order to hide the layers? I think not having a binding to me is definitely an aesthetic upgrade as it shows the beauty of the solid wood. Seems more natural.
I ordered one last year. It was back ordered with no release date so I cancelled the order. Wish I hadn’t. I love the no binding, the 3 way and two controls. To each there own I guess.
I agree with your comments about what added features would upgrade the guitar. I do like the stainless steel frets on this guitar, and that alone is worth a lot, but I think Epiphone Les Paul's in this price range are pretty good, and if you're willing to spend about $800, their prophecy series are really good. As for the cheaper guitar's, all in one make some nice instrument's in that price range, too.
Darrell, When you get a chance, please take a look at the EART NK-C3. Some reviews exist, but not from anybody I'd put my faith in. Some folks say the guitars are great, but one guy said it was unplayable (and demonstrated a serious fretboard issue). Thanks, and love your channel! Allan
I just got Satin Gunmetal Black, build quality is on par with my PRS SE. I I have done is changes strings and raise the string level up a bit. Very impressed. They have Roasted Okoume Body and Neck not Mahogany. It is the strings that will turn your fingers black as I strum with my right thumb a lot and the edge of the thumb had turn black, I was going to change strings any way.
Another great demonstration video. I may be the odd guy, but I really like the no binding look on guitars featuring natural wood finishes. I also like an LP or LP style guitar without the pick guard. I thought that the Alnico II pickups on this model were a bit under powered. But the tones were nice.
This would be a dope guitar to mod up, add a Gibson styled pickup selector in its usual place and then replace the blade with an on-of slide switch like you see on Jazzmaster, add that coil split and a phase, really cheap mods for a cheap guitar and make it play like a million bucks
You’d have to make a route to the switch in its normal spot if it’s not already there. On Les Pauls, this route is cut before the top that’s carved is applied. There isn’t a tool I’m aware of that’s small enough to fit where a pickup sits that can bore a hole to a new route. I suppose you could cut the route out of the the back, then fill it in with another wood, but that’s a woodworking-level job.
I bought a headless Eart almost year ago. Fret ends were nice, but put in a zigzag manner making some positions unplayable on high and low E. Luthier fixed it, but damn... hope they fixed this qc issue on todays models. As far headless goes, needs new bridge, maybe pickups and if not for the botched fretjob, great guitar.
Lots to like. Love the light LP body shape and the neck. The Alnico 2's work for me. I agree with others here that the binding isn't important. It doesn't have LP-like controls either, so the binding just follows suit. Most luthiers who deal with cracked bindings would agree. 😀 I'd trade the stainless steel frets for nice 18:1 locking tuners any day, assuming you get the same gorgeous fret ends. I wonder if it's Plek'd? Not sure if this value proposition is better than some of your other LP knockoffs like the Xaviere XV-500. Big price difference.
Late to the party here but great video Darrell (as usual...). I just purchased the exact same model on Amazon after watching your review. Can't wait to get my hands on that neck, it seems amazing
Just got my EART EGLP-610, I was giddy with expectation! Lovely finish, good pickups, great knobs, superbly rounded stainless steel frets. But oh boy QC did a sh*tty job on this specific guitar! - 3 tuners were not fastened properly (I could even turn the nut with my fingers on 1 of them). - The open high E string buzzed like a sitar, had to file the nut. - There was litteraly NO neck relief, I mean nada. Nill. Rien. - Ifound 8 spots where frets were not quite level, with my fret rocker. Lucky for me, I could still set the action low enough for comfort without buzzing frets or dead notes. I must admit I had similar issues with my Squier Classic Vibe 50s, except fret levelling was better. If you're not intimidated by a little setup work on your instrument, go for it!
I just got a headless harley benton. It was set up worse than any guitar I have ever bought. The supposedly stainless steel frets needed polished worse than I have ever seen also. After setting it up its pretty alright though. I still need a nut file to lower the strings at the nut though. Almost feels playing an acoustic
I prefer a neck that doesn't have binding.. Just my personal preference. I wouldn't mind coil splits, but also prefer a coil tap over the coil split systems that I've tried.
This is their LP Studio model they do have LP models with quilted maple tops, more traditional body and yes binding. This model is not intended to have binding.
I've got an Eart. I've got a purple strat style one, with stainless steel frets and a purple flamed veneer. For $300 on Amazon, it's honestly fantastic. After I set it up (barely had to do anything) it's perfectly in tune. The action was already very low without buzz when I got it. I still prefer my MIM Fender Strat, but the Eart is way more affordable. The pickups are a bit microphonic on mine, but the hum isn't bad at all for the single coils. I've got a humbucker in the neck and it sounds pretty good. I might change the pickups some day though. If I change the pickups on a guitar with already good pickups, I might put the ones I took out into the Eart. The frets are weirdly amazing.
I would like to see you do a review of a Michael Kelly Patriot Instinct Bold Custom Collection guitar ($699 in US dollars). It is a LP style guitar. Michael Kelly guitars are sold online through their website and are also the house brand guitar for Sam Ash music stores in the US. Michael Kelly sells tele, strats, LP, hybrids and acoustic guitars.
@@kennynorris8205 Yeah, I bought a "used/mint" condition Michael Kelly Patriot Instinct Bold Custom from reverb through Sam Ash about a month ago.....$480! Not a blemish on the thing......new sells for $699. I was just interest in Darrells take on the brand
Great review, $450 USDwith S/S frets, nice. Guess the only competitor at this price point (S/S frets/rosted maple etc) would be the Larry Carlton (Sire) series. Hopefully the LC Sire series will come back in stock when supply chains moderate... ugh......
That looks really nice. You should check out the new Latitude guitars. One of the main guys from EART left and made his own guitar company (Latitude). I have their LP model. Very nice.
thank you Darrell .👍.i would defiantly buy one as baric ''solid runner'' to mod ....that is if i didn't have 16 already . the body ,neck and fret combination alone makes this a fantastic platform or one to build a custom axe ,back in my day you would have to buy a Les Paul Junior......the look reminds me of an early Gibson studio or " the Paul ''....anybody remember The Paul ?. the pups Sound very ''Korean''' 'IMHO' ...... basically good but they seam to go dark under gain very early. A problem that could be patched out at the EQ ...Or resolved by different choice of a resistors at the tone pots.. ....... a problem common to many Asian manufactures
Nice features. Clean sounds are excellent. Clean is all I personally care about. I do not like binding, so this is a real plus for me. $400. Is not really in the affordable range depending on one's point of reference. Maybe 'semi-affordable' would be a better category. Over all, a much more desirable guitar than most (all) the Gibson single cuts in my view. Thanks Darrell!
I know the market has changed with a lot of innovations in manufacturing, etc. but considering that my last budget/affordable guitar I bought was $200, 30 years ago, I'd still characterize this as affordable.
Got a scammer reply to my comment. I hate scammers! Looks nice. Wish I had Stainless steel frets. I agree some binding would be nice, though I didn't like it when I was a teenager. I got lucky and found a used 2021 Epiphone Les Paul custom black & gold at Guitar Center for $400. Checked the SN and it was made 4 months earlier. It was missing strap buttons & pickup covers and the nut had been replaced with a Graph Tech TUSQ XL.
cool video, i enjoyed that review 👍 i noticed in the background you have the piece of wood with x4 guitar holders, i like, i could do with something like that on my wall, i got the single holders by hercules, i think i prefer what you have on your wall, it looks cool i think.
Very nice! It surprises me these days, seeing these companies put effort into the details that the entry-level Gibsons and Fenders often neglect. I have 2 Gibson LPs that needed a full fret file and finishing and an American Tele that had uneven and rough frets. Those were straight from the factory. It's not bad, and generally, you get what you pay for. However, if the guitar is designed properly, and the parts are all made well, installed properly and tested then that's going to be better to play out of the box than a top shelf parts Installed poorly. I may pick one of these up as sort of a beater(not really, but one I don't have to worry about too much) and maybe customize a bit. Great video!
Great review. Great guitar. Binding ? I really like it without binding. Simple, uncluttered and elegant. Apart from the tuners, if required, the only change I would consider making would be swapping the pickups for P90s. But that’s just my favourite sonic choice. The Alnico 2 humbucker pickups sound very good. Lower output, but more detail and expressiveness than Alnico 5 IMO.
Looks like a good guitar, but I really do like dual volumes on a Les type guitar, so I can back the volume off on the neck pickup and set the amp up to give me a bit more dirt on the bridge pickup. I could always install a concentric volume, but so many models come that way I would probably look for one of those. Otherwise it looks like a good guitar.
Very new to guitar here. Traditionally a percussionist but I wanted to learn guitar. I’ve watch several of your videos. I was curious of your thoughts on Dean Guitars.

The omission of binding is what sets the LP Studio apart from the other LP clones. A single coil capability would be welcomed.

I'd trade the stainless steel frets for nice 18:1 locking tuners any day, assuming you get the same gorgeous fret ends. I wonder if it's Plek'd?
Not sure if this value proposition is better than some of your other LP knockoffs like the Xaviere XV-500. Big price difference.
?
Looks like another guitar to add to the collection. Would be nice to have a dealer around to try before you buy.
Love the tachometer inlays! One of the only inlay innovations I've seen to date.
I like its simple 2 knobs and 3 way blade selector setup. That's probably my reference for a les paul for me to buy ;)
Great vid as always!
Just ordered one of these. Couldn't decide between the 335 and LP, so I flipped a coin and got the LP.
I prefer a neck that doesn't have binding.. Just my personal preference. I wouldn't mind coil splits, but also prefer a coil tap over the coil split systems that I've tried.
I could not care about a lack of binding. Nice video.
I'm intrigued by what Eart brings to the table. They seem like they would be great project guitars.
I bought one to project but left it alone. They are FANTASTIC as is!
I got their entry level strat thinking I'd hot rod it but I absolutely love it as is. Plays like a dream and the pick ups sound great.
The no binding gives it a paul jr vibe
I like it ..
This is their LP Studio model they do have LP models with quilted maple tops, more traditional body and yes binding. This model is not intended to have binding.
That axe sounds great!!!! Great video.
Sold my Fender Vibe and Player Tele, bought an EART Tele still have it and play it a lot, but would never give up my late 90's Fender Strat!
don't know if my ears are working right but this guitar sounds real good to me.
that guitar sounded surprisingly nice!! wow!!
I agree about the binding. Would've looked great.
alnico pick ups and steel frets for less than 5 grand is a killer deal
I would like to see you do a review of a Michael Kelly Patriot Instinct Bold Custom Collection guitar ($699 in US dollars). It is a LP style guitar. Michael Kelly guitars are sold online through their website and are also the house brand guitar for Sam Ash music stores in the US. Michael Kelly sells tele, strats, LP, hybrids and acoustic guitars.
Very well built guitars
The same factory that builds the PRS SE line builds MK
I have two myself !!
I think they're better than Epiphone !
Very nice.
Guitar Max just did a video on Latitude.
@@ExplodingPsyche yep. He mentioned me in his video.
@@thebaldshredder Oh right, now I remember! The Bald Shredder. Showed you briefly, too.
@@ExplodingPsyche yeah that was me 🤘🎸
Very nice guitars for the $$$ for sure
Got small semi acoustic same wood finish go good together, but yeah neck binding for sure
Appears to be a quality product. I like the looks , specs and sound.
I think it's a gorgeous guitar!
thank you Darrell .👍.i would defiantly buy one as baric ''solid runner'' to mod ....that is if i didn't have 16 already .
the body ,neck and fret combination alone makes this a fantastic platform or one to build a custom axe ,back in my day you would have to buy a Les Paul Junior......the look reminds me of an early Gibson studio or " the Paul ''....anybody remember The Paul ?.
the pups Sound very ''Korean''' 'IMHO' ...... basically good but they seam to go dark under gain very early.
A problem that could be patched out at the EQ ...Or resolved by different choice of a resistors at the tone pots.. ....... a problem common to many Asian manufactures
I would put a 5 way switch for coil splitting
Where can the schematic to do that be found? Great idea.
With price increases on everything now, $400 is definitely the top of the range in affordability !
Maybe a better way to say it is "value". For the features, $400 IS a great value, irrespective of whether it's affordable to you or not.
I know the market has changed with a lot of innovations in manufacturing, etc. but considering that my last budget/affordable guitar I bought was $200, 30 years ago, I'd still characterize this as affordable.
Como ESTA Darrell all the way from San Diego CA.big fan of your videos take care and keep them coming!!!
This is a really good looking guitar. I'm a big modding nut, and I'd love to get my hands on one of these. The features are perfect for me.
Amazing fret work!
I think it looks good without the binding but coil splits would be nice.
cool video, i enjoyed that review 👍 i noticed in the background you have the piece of wood with x4 guitar holders, i like, i could do with something like that on my wall, i got the single holders by hercules, i think i prefer what you have on your wall, it looks cool i think.
Even though it’s called “LP”, the shape reminds me much more of an ESP/LTD EC model, and I LOOOOVE my EC500.
I like the no binding look.
My Harley Benton " SG" has stainless steel frets too, and Gotoh Japan Hardware, tusc nut and Tesla PU's. Guitar price 239€. At Thomann 🤘🏻
So how does this compare to the Sire T7 or other Sire guitars you evaluated?
Not only the sound, but damn; those sexy looks aswell!
Rosewood fretboard? Looks great.
Pretty amazing at that low price point!
That was an easy one, from what ive seem though the eart is incredibly well msde, stuck some puckups of your choice in and youve got a good guitar
