    In this episode we set sail from the north of Spain to the Algarve coast in the south of Portugal. Our friends Evan and Alicia come to join us on this leg of the trip and we also encounter a bird trapped in a fishing net at sea. We set a new speed record on Beaver surfing down the waves in perfect downwind sailing conditions, with the Nortada wind pushing us along the Portuguese coast.
    A couple from Australia and Norway who set sails from Norway on a Beneteau Oceanis 40 in late 2018 to explore the world by sailboat. (Yup, another sailing couple doing the standard route and documenting it on film.)

    What a great high cut staysail , Perfect for windy conditions .

    • @SailingBeaver
      @SailingBeaver  4 года назад +1

      Yes your right. It’s our favorite sail and when we switch over it completely calms the boat down.

      @@SailingBeaver It only took me 30 years to realise less sail is better . Used have 2001 Bene 411, Great boat , slammed a bit to windward but hey who wants to go to windward , Fairwinds my friend - enjoy.

      @SailingBeaver  4 года назад

      Your right about slamming to windward I suffer the same but at 120 deg apparent she zooms along. Having the staysail with the strong trades between the islands in the Caribbean has been a massive advantage. 🤙

    Really enjoying your videos. You really capture the vibe of cruising - makes me want to get back on the water. Very intrigued to see how much you use the staysail.

    • @SailingBeaver
      @SailingBeaver  3 года назад

      Thanks for the kind comment mate much appreciated 🙏. Our staysail “jimmy jib” has been the most used sail since leaving Norway, probably because the other 2 are super old and stretched.

    The sleeping part . This is what scaring me the most if one day i decided doing long distance crossing. Before you decide to go frome one marina to un other marina .Do you reserve a spot .Or everything is already planning long time a go . Or just go and hop ping there ar some places. MERCI

    • @SailingBeaver
      @SailingBeaver  3 года назад +1

      Yeah this is sometime hard to manage sleeping hours and we are not very good at that part yet. In Europe it was easy to just go from place to place without booking, there was always space. 🤙

    Great content. Curious about your inner forestay setup. Is it attached to a factory pad eye or is the foredeck attachment modified to handle the load? Also what brand is the slim profile life raft? Looks slick.

    • @SailingBeaver
      @SailingBeaver  4 года назад

      Cheers Danielle. There is a factory forestay attachment or chain plate that goes through the deck into the forward bulkhead, it’s the same as the main forestay attachment. The liferaft is crewsaver. Hope that helps :)

    Hey loving the content. Just watched this and one clip near the start shows what’s looked like a navigation app on an iPad. I’m intrigued to know what the app is?

    • @SailingBeaver

      Thanks and glad you enjoy. This is ISailor It’s quite a good app and we really like it.
