I love how personal these reading vlogs feel. It’s almost like we’re having a FaceTime conversation with Jack while he reads. There’s not as much editing and it’s more random, but it’s comforting and funny.
@@ESPHMacD I'm studying the actual degree, it's a master's course in translation. I'm a bit torn because you don't need the actual degree to become a translator which obviously opens this profession up to a lot of people but at the same time, for someone like me who studied it, it's frustrating to see other people be more successful even though they haven't studied and it don't have the knowledge about the actual translation process that I have.
@@ESPHMacD you can look up the university of Geneva, im studying in translation over there and they have a really good bachelor and master (im doing the one on specialized translation, its great). its not only in french, you can have classes in and translate from other languages too (but still you need to know a bit of french) Good luck!
I’m so so thrilled to see Idol in this! Louise O Neill has been my favourite author for years, every single of her books is completely different and deals with mainstream taboo themes in such a genius way!
PARIS WALK OF SHAMEEEEE you go girl!!! love that for you hehe Love getting your recommendations I actually got into books again cause of you I've been binge watching all your content and getting recommendations and inspiration to read more and also film more!!
omg i'm living for this kind of reading vlog. its so random and fun to watch. everything felt spontaneous. love it so much if i can give you a hundred likes i would've done so.
I feel like that thing about bad endings in your first friendships is SO TRUE😹 That's definitly the source of all my social anxiety. It's been so shit 😅
Hey Jack! Can you do a spooky vlog or a scary reads for October/Halloween/día de los muertos? Maybe a mix of some of the classics and contemporary horror/thriller/mystery pieces?
Honestly, you are one of the most humblest people out there, and I’ve loved every single video that you’ve created since I discovered you last July. You are one of the people who got be back on to reading with a passion. Continue staying amazing, Jacky! ❤️
I'm so glad you liked IDOL! I gave it five stars because I thought the writing was just genius! The way the author kept us guessing right until the last moment was masterful, I'm so glad I read it after having seen it in another haul of yours!
If you haven’t already read it, I’d really reccomend the Mermaid of Black Conch by Monique Roffey- magical realism, really dives into Carribean culture and seamlessly blends history / folklore with the modern world, with some fascinating commentary on race and colonialism. Think you’d really love it.
Enjoyed your vlog once again and again breathing in and out gratitude to finding your channels this March when I really got back into reading after a bit of a slump. I have recently completed some stellar books due to your recommendations and appreciate it beyond belief. I have also read books that are greatly hyped or on best seller lists and the let down is sadder than a toddler with a deflated balloon. The goodness you shared with me first, was Before the Coffee Gets Cold. I adored the message. I really cried a lot at the end because I’ve been dealing with the loss of my Mom just last summer and I love how Kei returns and is smiling and crying and says she gets it. She realizes nothing has changed, but the person’s heart has changed. I also know I am late to the party, but A Man Called Ove was another book I just could not stop crying about and trying to explain to my husband and daughter the world I was living in all day and night straight through with Ove, the cat, and all of his neighbors who would not leave him alone. I also laughed so hard. I didn’t expect it to be so funny. This was one of the best reads for me this year. I trusted you even though there’s been some hype and my first Taylor Jenkins Reid was The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. There was so much to unpack in that story and so many layers to the relationships and the twists the story took. It just reaffirmed there is nothing more important than love and family. I am normally a big fan of Sophie Kinsella because I think she’s a bit like a modern day Jane Austen, but then I read Book Lovers by Emily Henry and that was one of my other top 4 reads of 50 books so far this year. She’s really a modern day Austen. The quote I keep telling everyone from her book is, “For a decade I’ve known that never again will I have everything, and all I have wanted is to believe that, someday, again I’ll have enough. The ache won’t always be so bad. People like me aren’t broken beyond compare. The ice won’t freeze too thick to thaw and the thorns won’t grow too dense to be cut away. “ So if you haven’t read Book Lovers or all of Sophie Kinsella’s books you definitely should. The only other book I can offer which is in my top four this year is a memoir written by Andre Agassi called OPEN. He was an American tennis player in the ‘80’s and 90’s and was in love with Brooke Shields, but really the female tennis player Stefanie Graf and he got to meet all kinds of famous people once he won Wimbledon and the French Open and the US Open the first times. He met Barbra Streisand and had a great connection because they were both actually quite shy and he met Nelson Mandela. But his storytelling is quite compelling. I couldn’t put it down and I’m an average tennis fan, definitely not an enthusiast. His stories are raw and honest and his pain and frustrations are gripping and I could not put the book down. I keep recommending and everyone who knows I only recommend really good books has loved it. I hope you get the chance to read it, too. You have tipped my TBR to just over 600 now. But to be fair it was in the 300s in March after a period of illness and loss and struggles. I am so happy to just be reading again and I owe some of these best books to your content. Thank you.
I LOVED this vlog!!! I really appreciated every little thing in the middle of reading, like talking about the dirty laundry and not liking the rainbow shelf and cooking for your friends and see the outfit and the walk of shame yaasss love that for you. Idk love those details
i am utterly obsessed with louise o’neill’s books and her writing style is so addicting. i got to meet her when she held a talk and a meet and greet in a local book festival. she explores sa and consent in a number of different ways- i would really really recommend her other books like “only ever yours” (handmaid’s tale vibes) or “asking for it” (my first and favourite of her books)
Literally couldn't stop smiling throughout the whole video, your vlogs make me momentarily forget all the bad stuff that is happening in the world rn...Also, Paris really suits you!!
I think that this is my favorite reading vlog I have watched all year. I didn’t even know about the books, and I’m not sure if I will read them, but oh boy did I enjoy this blog, keep it up you are doing great!
please more reading vlogs.. LOVED ❤️ the outfit. I love that your so down to earth. You are definitely [intune ] meaning: you are very comfortable with the person you've become. I love that!!!.. inspirant!! (inspiring)
Yukio Mishima I would highly recommend! :) Particularly his novels Spring Snow, The Sound of Waves, and The Sailor Who Fell from the Sea, and his novella Patriotism
You should definitely check out Louise O'Neill's other novels, especially Asking for It and Almost Love. Both deal with really big topics and honestly, you'll never read anything like them.
i missed you doing reading vlogs! definitely one of my favorite type of videos of yours to watch :) very true about it feeling like a facetime catch up with a friend!
i read idol last month, (im only 2 minutes into the video atm so sorry if i repeat you haha) i absolutely loved it. I recommend it all time, including the trigger warnings obviously haha, but i thought louise wrote the story of an influencer, the rise and downfall extremely well, i wasnt aware that she wasnt one herself which i think shows how well she crafted the characters and the storyline
an english lit and french college student here dropping the suggestion of a (translated) french lit video! college has somewhat spoiled my impression of french literature but i know that there is a wealth of good stuff to be found there because french lit has been SO influential. it could also be a challenge for you personally to try reading some of them in french! i read l'étranger by albert camus in first year, the writing style is pretty accessible for a second lang reader, you should consider giving it a go :)
I am in an entirely new city for the first time in my life, and it gets so alienating at times and on those days, I come here, I come here because it makes me feel like I'm at home because I discovered your channel when i lived in the town that I like to call my home. Jack, your videos have helped me cope up with the feeling of homesickness. Thank you so much ❤
Im eating up any vlog Jack uploads. If in future he decides to not do book content anymore, honestly he’s so fun, I’d watch him read his laundry list to me and I’d love it. And thats coming from someone that doesn’t watch many vlogs. Excited to see where Jack is 5 years now Im so down for the ride
Those rainbow selves are so cool, but I can't do it because I have a lot of book series where each book is a different colour, and I absolutely can't separate book series. I guess it only works if you mainly read stand-alone novels like Jack.
Only with Jack Edwards do you get quality conversation and wordplay around books but also forgetting to charge the camera battery as well have dirty clothes featured in videos.
I think reading vlogs are my favorite kind, I love to follow along as you read, your thoughts on the book and your daily life. I'm really curious about this book
If you want to read another book about an influencer not written by an influencer you should try People like her by Ellery Lloyd I’m not finished it yet but I’m absolutely hooked
The way you describe Idol reminds me a lot of Melanie Martinez former friend coming out about her SAing her, while Melanie said it was consensual. She also indicated the hypocrisy of MM being a figure of the issues vocalized in her song lyrics, and having a lot of girls look up to her. As well, a bunch of clearly biased fans would dig up things and cite them as supposed proof of MM's innocence based on arbitrary facts.
If you're interested in reading more books that include the #metoo-movement, you might be interested in "My Dark Vanessa". Yesss!!!! I love them exactly because of that too!
as someone who has been translating for 20 years, i really appreciate you naming the translator of the book. very cool.

@@ESPHMacD definitely as an English Literature major. But I'd like to know other ways 😄

Jack: Fueling my wishlist
Im from the Caribbean too , I just use booklat because if I buy 3 books that's like $1000 ( US 147)
Use Z Library. Won't be physically available but you can still read them. :)
Shocked to only see one comment about your Parisian Walk of Shame 😂 your audience is too respectful
