I have the same model and year, but mine is not as sparkling. If yours has the original magneto, it looks like your ignition was fully retarded? A great and underestimated machine, thanks for the video.
Yes I agree, I have 1954 Ariel NH and like you say with original mag the lever top left needs to be push fully forward (advance) and about mid way just for starting. The engine note sounds flat plus handful of throttle all indicate ignition to retired, Never less enjoyed video , thanks.
Isn't it funny how Ariel and Matchless get so little attention compared to BSA, Triumph and Norton. This looks to be a lovely bike.

Sounds and looks great, but doesn't seem very responsive to large handfuls of throttle.
