    Marty Reid was incredibly close to cooking up one of the hardest NASCAR calls of all time, and blundered it.

      Well, he did face Paul Dana's death in the Indycar Series back in 2006.. and the worst was yet to come in 2011 at Vegas.. The passing of Dan Wheldon.

      @jacekatalakis8316 28 дней назад +2

      @@shaneharrisnj3484 He handled both with respect and dignity so I can forgive a few blunders, to me Marty's 2011 Vegas work is some of his best in a very, very tough situation and he rose to that occasion and dealt with everything in a serious, calm, but professional manner. Didn't hurt that Scott and Eddie were doing the exact same and not constantly talking for the entire telecast as wellhandled

    • @shaneharrisnj3484
      @shaneharrisnj3484 21 день назад

      @jacekatalakis8316 Yeah. I do remember that race at age 8. That race solidified Indycar as the most dangerous motorsport class since Group B. Open wheel race cars going 200 MPH on an oval can be a perfect recipe for chaos, and that race unfortunately made that official. Marty delivered what had to be the most emotional sign-off in racing history, IMO. For Marty, Indycar was his day job, for Dan, Indycar was his life.

    I've done live play-by-play for another sport. Its tough even when you do it frequently.
    In your headphones you are hearing yourself, your color commentators and also production cueing you for upcoming shots and VTR. If you need to ask production something ASAP you better hope your partners can talk enough to cover you while you mute your mic and say what you need to say on talkback.
    While that's going on you have the actual action happening in front of you, a monitor showing the broadcast which they prefer you keep your eyes on so you actually call what's being shown.
    You also have a phonebook worth of notes to check at any given moment to help you call the action (names, numbers, historical stats, their favorite pizza etc) while also making sure sponsors get their spots (ex. "now the final lap brought to you by Credit One Bank).
    All that is going on while you're trying to talk, keep your train of thought, and next thing you know you've started talking and something like "AGGRESSIVE GOES AROUND" comes out and you hope to god that flew under the radar.
    I get they're held to a high standard but sometimes I feel for these guys.

    3:25 Another incident that (as far as I know) was never shown, was when Ty Gibbs spun from the lead at Portland in 2022. He was off in the grass (driver’s left) next to turns 11 & 12. 2 or 3 times he backed up, then while trying to get back on track got his splitter stuck on the rumble strips. They were too tall for the nose of his car to clear and allow him to rejoin. After the 2nd or 3rd attempt he drove around them and got going again. Never heard anything about it.

    The real shame is the booth is gotten so much better this year. But production has taken a colossal 💩 to nullify that. They're also meddling with the booth too to have harvick say cringe stuff like "cap" "yeet". It's almost like Fox's director WANTS the product to be brainrot.

    Being said, Mike Joy was the goat of broadcasting, but dude needs to retire soon.
    The camera shots and angles are baddd.
    Another thing is them getting drivers names mispronounced, such as SVGs first race, or when Daniil "Dany" Kvyat (my favorite f1 driver and my hero) runs spot appearences in xfinity. I swear i heard the guys on PRN when he did the COTA race keep mispronouncing his name idk.

    I think Clint Bowyer is better off driving than commentating. Whenever there’s a HUGE crash like at dega this year, he was more busy talking about the winner, which is important, but there was a massive pile up with 2 car nearly flipping on the front stretch. It’s either that, or he freaks out about a car spinning and makes everyone jump up thinking someone flipped. Unbelievable
