I don’t follow politics but working at a higher end hotel I noticed immediately when the cleaning ladies all of a sudden stopped coming to work. We are stretched thin and there is no one willing to work those positions. Work is becoming a nightmare and I’m not even an immigrant. We clearly cannot function without these people here so why affect business in your own state???! This is mind boggling

If those immigrants have a job, contribute to society, pay their taxes, obey the law of the land and the only thing illegal about them is how they get here a long time ago, perhaps there should be a path to citizenship, or at the very least, legal residency (like a green card).

There should be a way for an illegal to pay restitution and apply to be legal. If an illegal passes a background check and can pay a fine (maybe $25,000?) then I would be okay with them becoming legal. Why this is not being considered by Congress is beyond me.

I recently moved to Florida and I’ve been paying extra attention to the governor’s moves and he’s truly terrible, not just amoral but he’s actively hurting the economy and killing jobs !

Employers would pay Americans if they were willing to do the work. It's not just the pay, Americans complain about long work hours and work being too hard. I live in Florida and can tell you there's lots of work that has come to a stop from farms, construction and lawn service to name a few and no Americans have taken on these jobs.

@Crazy Louie Thing is ilegal or not ilegal they are not showing up to work because they stick together. As a business owner in a predominantly Mexican town I've spoken to a lot of people and what I'm getting is that they are worried about their family members who have been here for years and have not been able to obtain citizenship. They feel that the governor doesn't want them here regardless of thier legal status. It's not the same seeing it on TV then living it. It's heart breaking talking to them and seeing how they live in constant fear. The majority have broken their backs to support thier families to just have it all ripped away in a blink of an eye.

I ran across an AP video from 2011 when Alabama tried a similar law called HB56. It did not turn out well for the state, at all. Much of it was struck down by the courts BUT then the legislature figured out how much of a burden it was on state resources, plus Americans don’t want these jobs & cannot do them physically. It was a huge mess. It seems politicians never learn from past mistakes. This will hurt FL just like it did AL.

We're all immigrants - some of our ancestors just came on an earlier boat.
Edit: I realize some may take this as a slight against native peoples, but that was not my intent. But if you think about it, even they have ancestors that migrated from Asia via the Bearing Straight when the land was connected. The point is, people migrating to locations with more favorable conditions is hard-wired into our DNA. It's what makes us diverse and propagates the species. Borders attempt to quell this evolutionary behavior.

It looks like the governor of Florida has a bad attitude toward immigrants. If he becomes President, I hope he doesn't find out that a lot of Americans are immigrants or the descendants of immigrants. (The last time my life was saved by a quick trip to a hospital--in the United States--one of the registered nurses who helped to save my life was Cambodian, although she said she was born in Thailand, and the other one was from Nepal.)

They were also given brochures for a government program describing benefits they weren't qualified for because they weren't refugees. To be fair, a lot of people don’t want to work in agriculture because it’s basically slave wages with no benefits. That’s largely in part due to the fact that they know there’s a large work force that will happily work for said slave wages for tougher hand work.
