Super! Danke!
This concerto is FULL of Unresolved emotions. I don’t even think Reger understood what he was composing. It just seems like an ENDLESS road and no where to go.
His father Rudolf performed this concerto with the Philadelphia orch
Thanks for uploading this concerto. Obviously Peter Serkin's dad, Rudolph, was as great a Reger champion as Herbert Blomstedt is now. It's a splendid performance, and in particular the spirituality of the Largo 22:40 in the middle is stunning.
Es en verdad, una gran interpretación. Un gran concierto. Estoy sin palabras.
A totally unforgettable work. Have just watched a live performance from the Phiharmonie Berlin with Marc-Andre Hamelin.
And the fact that the work is only played by significant pianists attests to the true worth of the concerto.
Reger could not write a so-called pretty melody. But no one can write music as Reger did. He could write very complex and dense music with very simple motive. He was another kind of genius.
Anyway P.Serkin looks like Reger. :)
Much understanding of Reger by the conductor and soloist
Wow. This is a wonderful juxtaposition of deep reflectiveness and torrents of activity.
Well, Reger certainly was not Brahms and he struggled to write memorable melodies and often got lost in excessively dense structures. But this concerto has quite some great moments. Wonderful to have such an exemplary reading of it. ❤
He wasn't trying to be Brahms. See the documentary, "Maximum Reger."
WUNDERBAR!
A really very good recording. Reger's compositional outpouring, however, remains mostly like hot lava rolling over everything.

Sounds like everything except F minor to me.
As good as it gets. Wonderful to see Blomstedt and Serkin and the fabulous orchestra.
But this concerto never was and never will be a hit. Reger tries so hard to say something with all his notes, but he doesn't really get there. Perhaps he hadn't anything to say... Lots of sauce but very little food underneath.
Does it ever really need to be a hit? Perhaps it needs people who have a copy and have actually worked at it. Reger was an excellent pianist and no piano music he wrote is easy to play.
Indeed, there is lots of "concerto-piano" writing (up & down the piano). None of the themes/motifs are memorable and the priano writing sounds like Brahms on steroids
