Excellent. Correct balance of speed and clarity of execution. Too many piano players over speed the execution to show their technique often sacrificing the cleanness of the sound. Denis has perfectly understood that all the notes must be clearly distinguishable in the play.
    Magnificent, excellent indeed. Bravo.
I can remember only the execution of Arthur Rubinstein is able to give me such an emotion.
And Brava to Marin, very good and powerful with the orchestra, that she gets in her hands with great discipline.
Each part is crystal clear, each instrument plays beautifully and contributes to the ensemble in a splendid way, especially the solos.
An example, listen carefully at 18:08 - 18:16 and try to find this details in other famous executions.
Denis and Marin find each other splendidly!
    Superior quality execution.
    Great deep emotion.

I know I'm seven years late, but you couldn't have said it better. You expressed exactly what I feel and think. I've heard many versions, but almost all of the soloists speed up the tempo. This and Rubinstein's are my favorites, they fill my heart with very intense emotion.

This is very, very close to an ideal performance: such a natural, unhurried flow, an equally natural give-and-take between soloist and orchestra, and above all a big-hearted, soaring cantabile! What more could one wish?

    SALUDOS.

Excellent! Though, what shouldn't I listen to a CD, rather that watching on RUclips? You got it, the scenes of players, conductor and the soloist playing. So, we need: and Overhead camera showing once a while the fingers playing on piano, another camera to view the pianist upfront, and, not too many close-ups. Please show some interactions between the conductor, the pianist, and the orchestra. Cheers!

If they're using cameras for a live performance there are limits to what they can do, at least without spending an inordinate amount of money. Of course, it IS possible to get all the shots you're talking about with small fixed video cameras capturing footage that can be edited afterwards to give a seamless performance. I'd enjoy seeing that as well.

Brilliant. Up there with the best on RUclips, including the magnificent Kissin..whose version has slightly more open sound/ Still, very good here. At 7:13...I've never heard it played more regally yet propulsive, so musical, a perfect synergy by Maestro Marin and the pianist. Side note, this Steinway sounds as if it were built for this concerto. At least in the hands of this most wonderful pianist. Mr Kozhukhin's use of the sustain pedal is beautifully judged throughout, as Rachmaninov wished. This CLASSIC Rachmaninoff, ala Kissin. Let the music speak, with the right amount of personal interpretive touches...ALWAYS in good taste.
The 2nd movement is gorgeous, from both this fine orchestra and pianist. Pure. The climax at 18:39 is thrilling, and spot on perfect. Kudos again tot the conductor who brings ius such nuanced playing from the strings on the melody. The wind trio in near perfect synch the last 3-4 pages...a revelation.
The 3rd movement is glorious from start to finish. left hand counter melodies beautifully "sung" by the pianist..often missing by others. Maestro Marin is just SO wonderful, I envy all who solo with her as conductor.I love THIS concerto performed in THIS manner...unmannered. The 3rd can handle the plethora of artistic "choices." No 2, not for me. I want THIS.The "fugue section of the 3rd movement has that little "bounce" to it I love. At 29:38, an even more lovingly played main theme by Mr Kozhukhin. The concluding pages are thrilling, and the tiny little mini broadening of the composers name...Rach-ma-.nyin.. noff..those last 4 notes were so juicy. Perfect. Ever the modest Maestro Alsop. Bravo to you! Though this is 2014, she was already WAY on top of her game. These 2 performers were in perfect synch all evening., Bravo, and many thanks for posting this. I have no idea how I missed this performance on the Tube.

There's something about how male pianists play these two by Rach. They play with depth and body. It matters. Women including Wang don't have the same forcefulness or emphasise each note in the same way. The lesser well known Russian female ones definitely do though.

"All by Myself" is a song by American artist Eric Carmen released in 1975. The verse is based on the second movement (Adagio sostenuto) of Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Opus 18. (Wikipedia)

The soloist's tempo rubato sounds a bit deliberate. It may sound a kind of fake romanticism.
