Best recording of Covered in Frogs imo Also I kinda love how Doggy is a bit slowed down in this recording. I won't go so far as to say I like it better than the studio release but it has a special place in my heart. This entire recording does. Must have found this when I was like 16. I'm 32 now and I've never forgotten it.
Aly Daly I did as well. I was on a high dose of acid. My dog had been attacked and killed by another dog recently. It was unbearable for me. I thought they wrote it for me when i first heard this song. Unreal!
@@stanjohnson6371 Its not even hocketing there. Hocketing is the back and forth of melodic note changes or rhythmic hits in more than one instrument or singer. What they are doing there is Oblique harmony where one note stays the same while the other one changes
This is my all time favorite version of Winters Love that they've ever recorded with all the ooo's and aah's. I sing them even on the album version now.
I remember downloading this recording on kazaa and falling in love with sleeper factory/Doggy. So then when I got tickets to see them in Iowa and they opened with their Merriweather rendition of Doggy, I about lost my mind.
@@longbutt51 Type in Animal Collective 18/07/07 Paris, Maroquinerie. They open with Doggy and transition it into Hey Light and then into Who Could Win a Rabbit. It's very good.
Should I tell you where I wanna be? At the Sleeper Factory Where people sleep in tiny rooms They sleep upon their fronts and on their toes Should I tell you where I wanna go? To a sleepy undertow Drifting away off in the deep I wish there was a place I’d like to sleep Should I tell you what I wanna do? Find a bed and sleep with you ‘Cause two can sleep, much more than one And sleepin’ with another is so much fun And we’re gone they’ll leave us be We’re at the sleeping factory And we’ll be back in a week They’ll find us by the lake or by the creek
Remains of a poor dog that once was crumbles through my grasp yet again….dearest friend rest gently into the never Stulychna I’m sorry we never came back. Love you. Miss you.
Covered in frogs Until there in't any water Oh we're plastic It drops my wet body And I become attentive to the day My body starts drying Hey friends I got to go I'm sorry I can't stay I wish I had more time I wish I had all day but, hey, friend Time goes fast!
I thought it said "Oh, we're nasty" / "Then I become intelligent" / "My body's not right" from other versions (all of which I like better than the actual lines). Ignorance is bliss.
I accidentally listened to this once with Polly first, and it completely changed the vibe. Sleeper Factory ends with him talking about them finding them "by the lake or by the creek". Which kind of makes it sound like they're found dead, I know the rest of the song is really sweet sounding, but if the whole thing is about them dying together... well. Then there's the heartbreaking Doggy. It's just a real buzzkill.
Nirvana, whaa. This shit's elite. Amazes me how many different genres they're capable of championing. We know they grew up on Pavement...dreaming of an AnCo indie rock record. No keyboards. Shit'd be whack.
After being an obsessive fan for a few years in the late 00s, then having a long cooling off period (thanks to the execrable Painting With) and kind of getting back into them a bit thru Reset, I can safely say that this is the best thing they ever did, along with Strawberry Jam and the live shows they did as a 3-piece garage band comprised of Deakin, Panda and Avey, playing Feels songs and best captured in the 'Live at the old market' recordings on youtube. U can argue with me but I'm just telling the facts.
This is actually a legendary recording.
Hell yes.
It will always have a place in my heart.
i want these recordings on spotify. this is one of the few reasons i still get on youtube is for this song alone.
After 2 listens now I totally know what you mean. Holy crap it's good.
This is why I love RUclips. They have all the rare gems. All the demos, sessions, live performances, etc
get youtube red! way better than spotify if you want gems like this on your playlist 👌🏽
Best recording of Covered in Frogs imo

this is literally the best Animal Collective recording going.
Sleeper factory is the best.
this version of doggy is my favorite
Panda has probably the best voice I've ever heard in music.
And Avey
I cried when I listened to this version of doggy.
Aly Daly I did as well. I was on a high dose of acid. My dog had been attacked and killed by another dog recently. It was unbearable for me. I thought they wrote it for me when i first heard this song. Unreal!
Aly Daly ~I also did.....
indicamanita hallusativa its an increíble song
what are you gay
Me too, so bittersweet
so much of my life is reflected in their songs. such a beautiful representation of human grief and love at the same time.
I love that bit in Doggy around 6:00 where Avey & Panda are sing-howling... their voices work so nicely together.
its called hocket you dumbass
hey thanks for teaching me a new music term but youre a douchebag

not gonna actually watch it because id cry but its probably good
It will! 😭😭
They're all handsome af in those pics
I almost didn't recognize panda and deak for some reason lol
the fact that they did all of these songs flawlessly, BACK TO BACK, that's just insane to me. greatest band of all time.
doggy just caught me by surprise and i wasn't ready for it

Casear Umfwagga Winters Love is a pretty good song ;)
What Would I Want? Sky
Panda's voice sounds really cool on this version of Winter's Love
i think at least 500 or these views are mine, this is an incredible performance.

Damn, I've never heard of a MPP version of doggy. You know where it could be found?

I was wondering where I heard this, I definitely downloaded some live sets of Kazaa and put them on cd's. Nostalgia is weird
I WAS TEN AND ONE DAYS OLD

I was thirty-three and a third.
@Oliver Dreyer >1 year old gang wya (I was barely 2 months out da womb)
@Oliver Dreyer yeah it’s been a while since I’ve compulsively commented on ac videos lol
i was 3 lol
I've been a longtime AnCo fan and for some reason I just found this video now after all these years. This is fan-fucking-tastic

Sleeper factory!! What's the story behind that song? Is this the only time they ever played it? It's one of my favorites by them
doggy & froggy

Stulychna I’m sorry we never came back. Love you. Miss you.
I want that picture as a poster!!
If I had a nickel for every time Animal Collective played a Nirvana song in-between Covered in Frogs & Winters Love in 2004...
Covered in frogs
Until there in't any water
Oh we're plastic
It drops my wet body
And I become attentive to the day
My body starts drying
Hey friends I got to go
I'm sorry I can't stay
I wish I had more time

this show was performed six days after my birth
Don't know why but doggy is heartbreaking to me
Probably because it's a sad song
one of the best lives i ever heard. That covered in frogs and that doggy version it's more than majestic
thank you so much
Wow. Amazing performance.

bit late here but listen to the band Automine. They only released 1 EP but it's pretty much Geo, Avey and Deak's take on indie rock.
i had no idea about automine until i read your comment, thank you!
doggy sounds brilliant
Cool they did a cover of Nirvana’s song Polly. Like they did with On a Plain as well. Two of my favorite bands
Holy crap this is some good shit. I've been a huge AnCo fan for a while now and somehow I never got to enjoy Sleeper Factory or Polly.
another one of the sung tongs acoustics would've made this set otherworldly
should be in a vault
