Earlier in the film, when he was getting his Stars, Nikolai was drinking that same vodka and flipping that same rosary, to help him deal with the pain. Now as he sits alone, reflecting on both what he’s done and what’s to come, he drinks from the same bottle and flips the same rosary, to deal with the pain. Great movie with a perfect ending.
He's accomplished everything, become the boss of the London russian mob, but he has nothing. Less than nothing, since as a mob boss he no longer has the dubious lifeline of being pulled by the FSB or Scotland Yard. There is literally no way out for him.
late to comment, but his character just went over your heads... he is not self centered - a better life or being a mobster, having nothing - but thinking of helping others... he is exactly where he worked to be for the past - how many years? her story and countless others like it is why he has sacrificed his life to bring them down from the inside and in that moment he is reminescent of it.. thinking of her tragedy, such life... his face portraits sorrow.. it comes of very russian xd
@@iv4nGG I agree with your point but i want to ask something. we saw that he was some sort of an ally to the police, but he cut that man’s fingers off and now he is the head of the family?? Would police allow that? Kind of an unrelated question but...
@@asminhartavi92 He is not police he is a high level informent. These 'criminals' needs to act otherwise they won't be one and if they are not what they are supposed to be, why would the agencies will keep them on their payroll.
Exceptional film really hard to watch. Nikolai is one of the best characters, Russians are often portrayed as villains or gangsters and in this we see an undercover cop essentially sacrificing his life to fight the corruption from within. He hates the people he's involved with and sex trafficking, but he's one of the few who's doing something about it. That scene were ehe has have sex with the prostiitue this beautiful girl just sits and takes it then just lays on the bed and starts singing to herself heartbreaking. But he gives her the money and comforts her is also heartwarming. When people watch this film it makes them aware of sex trafficking and they in turn start watching out for it and start doing something about it if only small ways by contributing to charities, or informing if they see some suspicious activity.

Tatiana's narration is a mirror of Nikolai's journey. Where Tatiana became a victim, Nikolai is now firmly embedded in an underworld of his making. Ironic because he is now the head of a system that he aims to bring down.

Mortensen shows Nikolai as being the head of the family but also subtly suggests thoughts of a better life that he could've had.

Not to mention that he was forced to have sex with her by Kirill and even in Front of him. That must have been so humiliating for Nikolai. Poor lad.
He also helps that girl by having Scotland yard raid the brothel and taken to safety.
Well said.
0:33 my face exactly when I found out a Possible Sequel was Cancelled.
This movie will never have a sequel in today's SJW culture
shiz777 film is literally about pissing on toxic masculinity and finding justice for a brutalized woman.
@Black Pill ok manlet
@@mosspally6995 Yeah it is but you’ll never have American or Western European movies like this again because of SJW. This is just a fact.
@@deathzmane7188 it’s a Western made movie set in London. Main actors are all American, French and British.
It was thought-provoking and good movie. But I wish Nikolai could have been baby's adoptive father and happy with Anna though.😢
I like to think he visits her sometimes or something, really fucking love this movie
So do I. Damn it. But on the same time, this unhappy ending is fitting to this film.
That wouldn't be fitting. I'm glad the ending wasn't like that.
He's technical the Christina's big brother....
cinematic beauty !
Tatiana Maslany's Voice over. Sounds like Helena

Obviously this story should not end here. What a great waste of the effort here being not able to continue with a sequel
Peace.

@@Elchamuc020 says a sequel can be made
is nikolai the father of tatiana? is that what the end scene is hinting at?
Matt Albert i don't think so. I see it as Tatianna narrating Viggo's journey in context of her own journey. Epic film.
No. Did you watch the whole movie at all??
