Dads are a wonderful resource. I have two kids, three grand daughters, and two great grand kids. I'm always available to help out with ideas and pull a wrench once in awhile. Lucky you, enjoy him.
I'm sure they really appreciate that you are there for them!
Dads are the BEST! Great he came up with a fix and saved dollars. But I am sorry you had to go through that..so much admiration for you and of course Dad! Hugs for Jasper and Napoleon. ❤️
Thanks Linda!! Really appreciate it!
Hey, I think it is useful for you to find out from Airstream what type of plastic your water tank is made of, because JB Weld may or may not be the best repair product to use. It will be useful to know how long you can expect that repair to last because when it comes to plastics, its all about the chemistry.
Ah really good to know, thanks Eric
Very good suggestion. I've used that before for fixes as well.
Don’t ya just love unexpected fixes and expenses. But yay for “Dads”when it comes to making sure our girls are looked after. Thanks for the video Cass. 😁👍
Thanks for watching this one too Wes!
Much better fix than replacing it and having it crack again. Your Dad did an awesome job!
Dad's are the best! Thanks for watching!
Yay for your Dad! I love that Jasper is protective of Napoleon
Thanks for watching!
I really love how you have completely adapted to this lifestyle, demonstrated by your tremendous patience, adaptability and a good attitude throughout this particular ordeal. So many interesting facets to this channel. Very inspiring. Be well and safe travels!
Thanks Johnny! Really appreciate that!!
Just things you have to deal with. Now, that is one of the advantages of having a trailer vice a van. We had a leak in our t@b that eventually started to warp our floor. Took pictures and contacted nucamp, scheduled an appoint three-months out, and got the floor replaced along with some other minor repairs. Took two days so we opted for a nearby hotel but we did get a chance to tour the nucamp factory. I think you went with the right option of using jp weld and the access panel. Def more secure. Safe travels.
Completely agree, it's nice to be able to still have a vehicle when the trailer is in the shop. So glad nucamp took care of you! Hope you don't run into anymore leaks
The “poor communications” must have been at the dealers
end because, as we all know so well, you are a superb communicator 🐸. Jasper & Napoleon are precious traveling companions .... you are a tight team ! Stay safe.
Appreciate that Marty!
Great video. Thanks god for handy dads eh? JB weld is one of my must haves along with duct tape, zip ties, super glue and regular epoxy. I once used JB to fix a crack in my oil pan to get me back home.
Ahh great idea to carry some JB weld, thank you!
JB Weld is some great stuff. Glad to hear you were able to get it fixed on the cheap.
Thanks Jim!
Patience, perseverance, adaptation, great communication - smart repair hope it holds for you! Awesome father!
Thanks Phil!! Appreciate you watching!
If this ever happens again there is marine cement/glue that you can fix your tank. I fixed a cracked porcelain toilet tank that was leaking and I've never had another problem. Love your channel and your fur babies!!
Thanks for the tip!
Very cool on the fix at the end!! Just like any "house" there is always going to be something to fix/modify/improve/replace. Thanks for sharing how you handle things like this.
It is so true. Always something to fix. Thanks for watching!
Your videos are super informative and totally entertaining. Please keep them coming.
Really appreciate that, thanks Randye!
Thanks for sharing the realities of living in an RV. This will be helpful especially to our clients who recently bought land from us and would like to start living in an RV. We'll start sharing your channel to them. They will surely learn a lot from your videos 😊
Truly appreciate that, thank you so much!
You have excellent communication skills, so refreshing to watch your videos!
Thank you Gary, really appreciate it. Thanks for watching!
Great Videos. Thank You Cass, jeff and l have learned alot from you.
So glad to hear that, thanks for watching Jean & Jeff!
Wow! Gotta love the DIY solution - well done.
So much nicer when we can fix it ourselves!
I've just started watching your videos, so far they are informative and you are very well spoken. I've been looking at building out a mobile office/RV, so this content is helpful. Thank you for sharing quality content.
Really appreciate that, thank you. Glad it’s helpful!
Lucky you to have such a handy dad!
So true! Thanks for watching!
Yep, smart to take care of that yourself. $1300 is crazy money for something like that. Great video, thanks!
Thanks Scot! Appreciate you watching the video!
Nice fix! congrats!
Thank you!
Quite the adventure! Way to go Dad! I'll tuck that fix away in the file cabinet. Thanks for the info and safe travels.
Thanks for watching Mike!

I lost track of how many meetings that day held (4?), and that was a light day! 😵 Glad you and Dad could fix it in the end. 🐶🐱
Yea, ended up at 5! Crazy how many meetings I end up having during the day. Thanks for watching this one as well Tara!
A girl can always rely on her dad to fix the problem. I love watching your videos.
So true!! Thanks for stopping by again Pammy!
Super presentation
Very comprehensive.

Hello there, as a dad of a 12 year old daughter, I want to say thank you very much. I didn’t think RUclips would be such a great place for her find such empowering role models.
That means so much to me Mark, thank you!!

So glad to hear they are helpful! There’s so much to learn along the way as well
Slap some flex seal on it!😆that flex seal tape is amazing. 👍🏽 nicely done ✅
Hahah! Thanks for watching!
Hi 👋 from Tennessee. Great video. Glad your dad could fix your water 💧 tank. Thanks for sharing and have a fantastic day.
Have a great day Patricia!!
Great attitude. I was in Phoenix last week and the heat wasn't bad. But, the Tundra will cool you no matter how hot it gets. It will not disappoint like the Airstream either. It will not disappoint. Nothing will break on it.
Let's hope not!
Glad to hear that your dad could find a way to fix it. I carry 2 tubes of JB Weld just in case.... it is pretty good stuff. I am surprised that Airstream didn't cover it under warranty, but maybe that is because it is a single axle trailer, I know dual axle rigs ride a bit smoother. Keep at it.... Until next time... Travel Safe.
My warranty expired about 2 years ago, so sadly nothing has been covered since.
Great fix. I love JB Weld.
It's amazing stuff!
Not surprised that your water tank sprung a leak, those rough roads really tear up RV's. They're not built that great to begin with, although the price you pay you'd think otherwise, but even main roads aren't that great either LOL. Just makes it worse when you have to live in it full time trying to get stuff fixed. Nice to see a simple solution in the end though for sure...I'd call that RV dealer back and ask where to send the bill for repairing what they seemed to have problems figuring out how to repair easily LOL.
I've thought about getting a small camp trailer, but I think I'll just stick with a tent LOL. For a few years I was going camping all the time, but lately I haven't gone at all and as a matter of fact gave most of my camping equipment away 6 years ago because I wasn't able to go anymore. Its getting about time where I can start thinking about going again, so a tent and a few basics will be all I need for a while. The nice thing with a camp trailer is you set everything up in it how you want, and its ready to go, just hookup, fill the refrigerator with groceries and away you go...tent camping takes quite a bit more effort loading and packing everything then unloading at camp, and repacking. A camp trailer you just toss stuff in and slam the door and leave LOL.
Look into the teardrop trailers. Was one build for only $2k and 800lbs. Light, compact, effecient and easier to handle. If you do your own build you know how to do your own repairs easily.
It's so true that tent camping takes a bit more work, but it also offers some more flexibility. Don't know how many times I've run into "tent only" campsites that look amazing. Hope you get out camping more!
JB Weld…one of the greatest inventions ever 👍🏼 Great dad for helping on the repair…& save $1300
Agree, pretty amazing stuff! Thanks for watching!
Yeah dad! Dad always saves the day
So true!
Thanks for sharing this experience. Nicely put together. Don’t you hate it when reality gets in the way!
Definitely sneaks up on you at times! Thanks for watching!
Great outcome!
Dad to the rescue!
You are amazing, you keep things together during difficult times and take care of your animals. Total composure under stressful situations, you're as tough as nails, best of luck! Must say I'm a bit disappointed with Airstream, for the money you shouldn't be having these hassles, of course they put the blame on you for using your trailer, shame on Airstream.
Thank you Tom, I truly appreciate the kind words. It is hard with the trailers, as every time you take them down a dirt road it's like a mini earthquake. So wasn't surprised after 3 years there was an issue. It was more the cost of the job and not being able to easily access the spot that was frustrating. Really appreciate you checking out the video!
Good fix
Thanks Scott!
That worked out well!
Thanks for watching Barb!
Dad to the rescue! Your Dad is good for the Dad brand!
Yes he is! Thanks for watching!
I have never asked if there are goodies for the animals in a drive through. That was great! I will do that from now on. Thank you for showing that. I stay in Chandler on drives to Los Angeles. It’s a nice and safe place to stay. Have safe travels.
Thanks Patti! I've found a lot of drive thrus have pet friendly food, and sometimes they even love giving them to the pets. Jasper knows what drive thrus are now and looks forward to them haha!
Nice fix in the end, exactly what I would do.
Thanks for watching!
I travel with a 18 year old maine coon cat. I used to pay $150 per stay pet fee at hotels. Now, I board her at a veterinarian for $10 per day. If for some reason I didn’t make it in time to pick her up before they close, the cost is $20 for the day and night. I find a library to work. If you call ahead, many libraries have rooms you can reserve for free to work in. Usually an hour, but you can extend the time for more hours.
Great way to do it!
Got to love dads! We can can fix anything :)
So true!
Good old JB Weld,as a 38 year master tech and RV tech I’ve used it probably less than 10 times in my career it’s worked every time as long as you let it cure. 👍Dad from one dad to another.
Love it! So glad to hear it has held up those 10 times
@@TailsofWanderlust thank you for your reply, I really enjoy your videos and your advice on the BaseCamp Airstream. Have a great day and give Jasper and Napoleon a hug.
Very interesting! I’m picking up my ‘22 Basecamp 16X this Summer. Do you think that, knowing what you know now about this issue, is there anything proactive to do to keep this from happening? 🤔
Since you have the '22 you should have an access panel into the fresh tank. The drain hose is very tight, meaning as you bounce down the road it puts strain on the tank. Mine lasted 3 years before breaking so I wouldn't worry about rushing a fix. However, may be something to put a slightly longer hose so it has flexibility to move.
Just discovered your channel. Getting so much from it, thanks! Question related to working in the RV. What do you do if you need to send/receive large files to clients or upload to RUclips or something? I've heard that local libraries have fairly fast and free internet. Any other ideas? Thanks again for the videos.
McDonald’s or Lowes! They have much faster internet I’ve found than a Starbucks or coffee shop.
@@TailsofWanderlust Thanks! Will keep this in mind. I'm also looking at the new Starlink RV setup.
Great Dad to help you out! ❤️
Thanks for watching!
Yes, if that JB Weld product does not work that tank is made with a potable water plastic and It can be welded with an inexpensive plastic welding kit. You dad could do it. He would want to practice on something other than the tank/piping itself. I welded the tank on my Scamp several years ago to remove a small bit of dirt that got in the tank. I happened to have a piece of potable use plastic from a household appliance (I think it was a clothes washing machine drum, maybe a clothes dryer) but I suspect such a plastic would be available from a variety of sources. I actually cut a small hole in the top of my water tank and welded a new piece in when I was done. It has not leaked since and it's been over some rough roads. Unfortunately, the JB Weld may interfere unless you can peel it off (in the event it does not work). Best wishes. That's a bummer.
Of course, assuming it's a similar plastic. Test it if you decide to try it.
Thanks, really appreciate the info on that as I hadn't heard of that before!
Great Job, Dad!!!!
He's the best!
OmG I live in Peoria Az and would of loved to meet you. My sons and I love watching your videos and especially when you cook meals
Thanks Lana!!!
Would love to know where kind of extreme speaker you flashed? Jabra? Please share. TY
Here you go! amzn.to/38De9QJ
Oh Man I live in Gilbert. I 've been to that dealership!! Wish I knew I'ld have you come over at the house with the fury babies while you waited. Lost Dutchman is a pretty nice place to stay for the night too. Great little mining town to visit.
Appreciate that Karen, thank you! You live in a very nice town, enjoyed our time there!
Thank you for sharing. You are so organized. How do you deal with your income tax and insurance? Do you have to pay income tax on states that you travels or just your home state.
If you keep moving the tax man never finds you. 🤣
Hahah sadly not the case. Wish it was thou!
Every state has their own laws and rules. It depends on how long you are in a state for.
How is the gas milage with truck? A cabin tent or a small Clam would be a great backup when the homes is being repaired.
Gas mileage is better than the 4Runner surprisingly!
Thanks for this video. I see so many people hauling travel trailers down some dirt roads. Definitely trailers not as well built as an airstream. Makes me doubt I will buy one used and will look for one built to take rough roads
Such a good point, I've seen some trailers in places they shouldn't be and wouldn't want to buy them
I wondered about this. JB Weld to the rescue! Cool that it worked out- and cheaper too! Any indication as to why the crack formed?
Supposedly it was due to a lot of bumpy roads. The hose was quite tight, so it makes sense over time it caused the tank to crack.
In the end, yay Dad!
They are the best!
What kind of insurance and coverage do you have on your base camp?
I have a full-timers policy which covers normal RV insurance plus additional property/liability coverage.
Thanks dad
They are the best! Thanks for watching!
Airstream Basecamp X Major problem. They don’t care!
I have a 2021, on the Second Trip, someone pulled up next to me honking and waving something was wrong. I found a safe place to pull over and got out to see what was wrong. I was shocked to see the entire window assembly was MISSING ! I was very lucky as were others on the road, that no one was injured or an accident didn’t happen as a result of the window flying out and evidently taking flight. I later found out this has been a recurring problem ! I won’t go into all the details but I was able to cover the opening temporarily and make it to a hardware store and they cut a piece of plexiglass to fit the opening so I could take it to the dealer. After waiting months and months for parts that have Never arrived, I took the Basecamp to a sheet metal shop where they fabricated a semi permanent fix. So after all this time I still don’t have the parts and a permanent factory repair and restoration so I can’t use the camper. I now know why Airstreams last so long and look so good. They stay parked ! No wear and tear ! Airstream doesn’t care that this expensive product is a product liability lawsuit waiting to happen because it stays parked under cover. It was used one time. So much for the “good investment” argument ! It really can’t sell it until it’s repaired / restored so I’m stuck and they don’t care! How much longer will it be?
Who knows? I’ve owned 4 Allegro Motorhomes , a Jayco Motorhome a Shasta travel trailer and 4 Jayco Travel trailers and have never experienced anything like this. I’ve since bought a new 2022 Jayco Jay Flight Travel trailer. Whenever this Basecamp gets fixed, it’s GONE ! I don’t want to go through another “Airstream Experience”.
Sorry to hear of your experience. Airstream recalled that window, not sure if that recall applies to your unit. Have you talked with the factory and their warranty/service department? I always found them to be the most helpful. Dealers are very hit or miss on knowledge and service.
Yes to all your questions. It turns out they have developed a perfect circle. They stand in a circle and point to the right and say “it’s their fault”. It’s Gone.
I really enjoy your sharing your knowledge, and informative, practical no nonsense segments. I’m very interested in your new venture with the truck camper. I’ve been thinking about purchasing one for a secondary unit for special destinations.
Thanks for all your information on this topic. I’m interested to see how this works out.
“Happy Tails” to you guys.
Your camera make/model if you don't mind?
I use the GoPro Hero 9 I believe? And it has the media mod, which really helps with the audio.
Glad your dad fixed it for you!
Thanks Maryann!
How nice of your father
Dad's are the best!
I am a new subscriber. What kind of work do you do?
Welcome to the channel! Really appreciate you stopping by. I am a project manager
JB Weld is great!
First time using it, seems like great stuff!
Glad your Dad was able to complete the DIY saving a lot of $.
Thanks Kenneth! Appreciate you checking out the video!
What about using some commercial sealer plastic welding I have heard plastic weld
Haven't run into that before, so the JB Weld was easily accessible at Lowes
Hey there, are you still using ->Escapees mail service and domicile articles for all your mail forwarding service? More than 1 year ago I reached out to you with the same question and you replied with the information so checking in again as am getting ready to hit the road trip. Thank you so much in advance and keep on traveling :). I look forward to hearing from you
Hi Sarala! Yes, I am still using Escapees mail service. I did learn if you go for their cheaper service, they don't even notify you that you have mail (ask me how I got $200 in late toll bills 🤦♀️). But if you pay the $10/month they will scan the mail and let you know when it arrives.
@@TailsofWanderlust Thank you for your reply. Oh my....I hope you get some credit on the toll bills if you call the biller explaining your situation. I recently had a small toll bill with late fees $10 from Florida (I live in South Florida) and they guy on the call spontaneously out of kindness reduced my bill to half and I didn't even ask him. Hopefully, you bill goes down.
Can u pull ur basecamper and ur truck camper at the same time
Technically no, as then I would be over payload.
Poor Napoleon was licking his lips while the Jasper was eating. What is he chop liver? EDIT: nvm he got some burger lol
Aww poor napoleon he’s a escape artist. So cute. He was probably trying to follow you. Must have child locks on
Haha he was ready to get out and explore!
I had a similar problem with a travel trailer I had about 5 years ago, same problem from bouncing down dirt roads the plumbing was too stiff and cracked the fitting in fresh water tank. I actually fixed it with a plastic welding kit I purchased online, it’s basically a soldering iron that you feed strips of plastic into and melt your water tank and fill the crack with the melted plastic strips. It’s worked very well and for good measure I put a rubber hose in that section that connected to the tank so that the fittings would have less stress on them
Oh interesting, thank you for sharing
Thanks, Dad!
They are the best. Thanks for watching!
Homegirl is in my neighborhood. 👍🏼
Oh too funny. Thanks for watching!
Are only Airstream dealers qualified to make repairs? I take my Lance to the factory as well. I tried the dealer where I bought it and found them lacking in knowledge of the trailer. Lance has electric hookups so I go the night before and have it fixed the next day. I make sure they know it has to be repaired the same day as you did. Often times it seems that repair shops assume that you’ll leave the trailer and they’ll get to it when they get to it even though you have an appointment. Service is the part of the RV industry that is seriously lacking! There is little to no consideration for the full timer. In some cases living in your RV can void a warranty claim as they are for recreation and not a residence. Some companies have a full timers warranty on certain RVs. Service is certainly a concern when you live in your RV. I will probably use a mobile tech one the warranty has expired. You just have to make sure they’re certified. There are probably not a lot of mobile techs that are certified on Airstream. Your dad certainly seemed to know what he’s doing! Hope the repair holds up!
Now that the Basecamp is out of warranty, I could take it to any repair place but I find the Airstream ones are the best as they know the layout of where things are. I've found when I take it to non-Airstream it can be more expensive as they have to figure out what is going on
Now I can see where you got your getter done attitude. 🐈⬛
Thanks!!
Way to go Dad!
Dad's are the best!
Train your dog so he can be a companion most places you go. He should be ok around you and other people and animals, especially dogs. He is smart. Try basic obedience training but at a competitive level so you both will learn. Good workout and it can be fun! I'm assuming your dog is physically capable of course. Good info about repairs. TY!
He's actually very well trained for those situations and goes most places with me. It's when Napleon is involved as well as other dogs that it becomes an issue
Way to go dad!
Thanks for watching!
You could have stayed with us in Apache Junction....but we have 2 Schnauzers....it probably wouldn't work out! In 3 weeks heading back to beautiful Colorado!!
Sadly Jasper isn't very nice to new dogs, it takes him awhile to warm up. But thank you so much!!
Wow. Too bad you developed the leak but great that your dad was able to fix it, for over a thousand bucks less. It's amazing how much these companies want to exaggerate the prices for fixing things. Just out of curiosity, how do you charge your laptop in the truck?
I have a 12V plug for the laptop. Similar to this: amzn.to/3MU14kK
@@TailsofWanderlust Thank you
Are you loving your truck?
Absolutely! It's been great so far
Hey…that stuff happens in homes too.
Always thinking you look familiar to someone but have never been able to put my finger on it till this morning while watching a movie......You resemble an actress, Laurie Fortier, that we often see in movies on the Lifetime Movie Network and the Hallmark cable tv channels. Check it out lol.
Oh too funny. Thank you!!
JB Weld would fix it for short term or long term 👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
You gotta name names on the knuckleheads who didn’t perform your repair to your needs. I mean, what’s the point of being RUclips famous if you can’t make your enemies pay for their transgressions? :)
Hahah! I like to keep names out, but if you are ever curious just send me an email1
1) Not cheap 2) VERY stressful even when nothing is broken and SOMETHING is broken ALL THE TIME!
Thanks for watching!
So glad your dad fixed it without having to pay $1300
Thanks for watching!
Cmon Cass, you didn't want us to see you take a bite out of that massive double burger?
Hahahah - it wasn't pretty 😂
If they wanted 1300$ for that fix getting a new tank and labor would have been a crazy huge bill!!
They quoted me $1300 for both the minor fix and new tank.
👍✌️
Thanks for stopping by Spud Man!
