I Found Water In My Plane Fuel Tank - My Annual Took 2 Months

- My Grumman Tiger airplane was sitting outside for 2 months waiting for space to open up at the shop where I get my airplane annual inspection done. I found water in my fuel tank on my pre-flight check. Never skip your checklist. It can save your life.
Glad that your Tiger and videos is back! Missed your videos!
So glad you finally got her home.
You and me both :)
I often see pilots flying in, parking for days and not doing a complete preflight before leaving. It does not take much time to check the actual fuel quantity with a stick and doing a fuel quality check with a sample. Check the fuel for color, smell, and particles.
Nice video, enjoyed the views!
Man I miss KWHP. Last time I got a ride out of there must have been 1982-ish. N733SR was her name. I'm happy to see they haven't gone the way of the old San Fernando air strip. Tiz nice to see you posting once again too!
I upgraded from a Cheetah to a Commander 112TC and then 30 years ago quite flying do to costs. Wish I’d gone to a Tiger, I miss the AA5x, they were one of the major joys of my life. Keep flying.
Ahh we have missed you Bryan! So great to see you have your Tiger back. Looking forward to some nice videos. Enjoy the skies🛩
Thank you Tanya :)
I've had lots of fun years taking Cessna 99J all over SOCAL with family and friends, that's a great airplane, glad to see it still flying.
It’s a nice plane…a little slow, but nice :)
@@Wolficorntv agree, the clubs 182's were my favorite.
About a year ago I did two of the same mods - Surefly and GaryV's nose strut fairing on my 1978 AA-5B. Love both. The strut fairing has reduced my max CHT by about 25F.
Great to see you back in the skies and posting your video. Have an awesome summer of flying!
Thx Stephen!
Great to see you & the Tiger back and flying!
Hey Brian, glad your planes back and your flying again. It was nice meeting you at your hanger before you took off to pick up your plane the other day. Stay Safe. Gary
Ahhh. So YOU are homertalk. Nice to put a face to a name. See you are around WHP!
glad to see a new video. keep up and greetings from Germany!
Thx Chris!!!!!
Glad your back. Two month inspections seems a little lengthy. I'm sure you scheduled an appointment? Surprising you mechanic didn't check the sumps before he ran the engine after inspection. I know he's a Grumman specialist, but it all seems a little cavalier on his part.
Thx Bill! Yeah the majority of those 2 months were spent waiting outside for space inside his shop. He's not really a "schedule" kinda guy, LOL. It can def get a little frustrating. That said, I wouldn't expect him to sump my fuel tanks since he didn't fly the plane, only ground checked it.
Very happy to see you back in the air. Thanks for sharing with all of us. Looking forward to many more. Hope the puppy takes to flying easily!
I'm gonna introduce my puppy into one of these videos soon :)
@@Wolficorntv Can’t wait!
That ESI would def be my first choice of mod.
Lost the right magneto in my Cheetah over the Grand Canyon, had to leave the plane at Grand Canyon airport for a month. You did a good upgrade.
Not the best place to lose a mag!
Brian!!! Yer back!!!!! I thought you were suffering from tubapause... Tis the season for upgrades!!! I'm doing lots of stuff to 8344T as well. It sucks you have to go that far to get an annual. My annual is done right in the hanger. Blue skies and I can't wait for the next video!
Tubapause? I don’t “have” to go that far for annual. I could do it on my field as well. It’s just that I like taking it to a particular guy. That said…it’s been frustrating waiting so long for it to get done.
Great video and you're very good at post-production! Hope to see you again soon. Take care.
thanks Marcelo!
Nicely done! That timelapse night landing into Whiteman, very cool! Did you use any special editing to get that shot?
Thx! That was made using the timewarp mode on the gopro.
You guys look cute with matching outfits... (Yeah, I know... I'm still taking the cheap shot!)
LOL
Love the videos, live in sfv/Scv areas. How hard is it to have, or to find hangars for GA? Thanks!
Hey! When I got my hangar at WHP 5 years ago there was no waiting list. I honestly don’t know how difficult it is now.
@@Wolficorntv thanks for the reply!
Tiger owner here.
Where was the water ingression you think? ...or did someone piddle in your gas tank? Heh heh heh...
Australia.
water leaking from the cap seals most certainly. While typically hangared, It had been sitting outside for about 7 weeks.
@@Wolficorntv
Ta. Through wing drain blocked?
3:38 are the altitudes on the GPS in meters?
I hadn’t noticed until you mentioned it. Not my plane :)
Sorry, at first glance thought it was a pretty flight vodka tonic 😀
that comes afterwards :)
where can I source the nose strut fairing you mentioned?
Reach out to Gary Vogt at AU Country. He makes them.
Can someone tell me what you call the part that's on the plane where we draw the fuel from
Fuel sump
@@Wolficorntv thank you I'm not sure how it happened but both of mine broke at the same time
Might want to replace the seals on those gas caps to keep the water out. Maybe not a big issue if you have a hangar, but probably something that your IA should have caught at the annual?
Yep...my plane is usually hangared but I def want to replace the o rings. I caught the problem right before I was flying away from my annual. It was in the back of my mind as a possibility since it had been sitting outside for so long, but I was still surprised b/c I didn't think my caps leaked. There's always something to fix on a plane. Sigh.
@@Wolficorntv I replaced mine recently. Give me a shout, I’ll do it for you.
