I have not tried RemNote yet but unfortunately, I do not like the UI like Notion or Obsidian hehehe. That's purely aesthetics, but honestly for me it does matter. However, I'm still working on a general system that interconnects both Notion and Obsidian. Honestly, even though Notion does not have a strong backlink system the databases are so powerful and they have also many views to see your info in. I feel if I manage to link both Obsidian and Notion correctly, I would only use RemNote for studying by copying my notes from Notion or Obsidian. What I like of Notion and Obsidian is that they ar3e both Markdown language which makes them really flexible. I'm still watching the video while I type this hehehe. Thanks for the content @NotesWithRen :D
Thanks so much for commenting! These are some really great points :) Markdown is definitely very powerful! You can import Markdown notes into RemNote if that'd help! But definitely, if you have a system that works for you, stick with it! I'll be making more Obsidian videos coming up soon :) Thanks again for being part of the family :)
@@NotesWithRen I should say thanks to you for the content. I would also like to start uploading when I got my setup and hopefully in Spanish so that the Spanish speakers can also learn about Obsidian and Notion that are amazing tools!!

Wonder if they use markdown (though I’m guessing no) and wonder if we can use this locally now? ...as my writing is usually/mostly journal entries so quite personal. Bravo on another great video. Still (more) thankful that I found you!!!
Thanks so much for commenting :) At the moment RemNote is only available through the online page, and not locally unfortunately. But you're able to import markdown notes! Also, if you're using these tools for journaling mostly, I'd suggest Roam or Obsidian instead (probably Obsidian since it's local!) because RemNote is mainly great for the flashcard feature! Hope that helps :)

Thank you for the video. I love that it is practical and relatively short. In addition, I wanted to highlight structurisation, it was convenient to navigate.
Before watching this video, i don't know this app. i used to want to use roam research, but roam research is too expensive to me. After receiving your recommendation, i will try this app.The flashcard function (like anki) is so appealing to me. Another app, marginnote3, also include the flashcard function (like anki). But marginnote3 implements this function in another way. Anyway, thanks for your video!
Obsidian has plugins that turn content into decks for Anki or NeuraCache! Thanks for this video, really cool, but I'm definitely sticking with Obsidian :)
Ren, could you make a video for the purpose of making a Personal knowledge base with RemNote. I understand the benefits of the Flashcards and Spaced repetition, but my priority is a personal database with back-linking and tags and the ability to use on my iPad Pro (versus Macbook Pro). It will be some time before Obsidian has a mobile app and that leaves Roam and RemNote. Roam at $15/mo is a little steep and that prompted my interest in RemNote. BTW, absolutely love your style in your videos and I will be a long term subscriber . . . All the Best!
Thank you so much, Greg! I really appreciate the kind words :) I will work on a more detailed full personal knowledge management video in the future, adding that to the list now! Welcome to the family :)
Thanks so much for the kind words, Aneesh! Give RemNote a shot, you might like it too! Although yes, Roam is definitely absolutely amazing and so powerful :)
Ditto. Been using Roam for months and I registered and gave RemNote a peek but it feels so cluttered. I really love the simplicity of input on Roam. There’s an investment made in such tools and hard to even contemplate moving once you’ve starting ploughing information in.
They just released 4 days ago an update that allows you to export your remnote flashcards to anki, that means you can answer them there and control the intervals, see the stats, the learning interval and easiness!!
Definitely! I’m super excited about this new update as well! I hope they eventually allow us to access all of that same information in RemNote someday too :) Thanks for commenting!
Wow! This is exactly what I expected. I was considering leaving a comment about Remnote on your last video, but I finally decided to explore it first. It seems like we "click." :)
Thank you for your so structured, so in-depth, and at the same time, so understandable review in-terms the way how you demonstrate it and how you describe it. Also, thank's for your user-friendly pronunciation;) English is not my native language (I'm from Russia) and it was so comfortable to listen to you!
Well, there is of course also the downside that there does not seem to be a selfhosted / local version. So you basically throw all your notes / documentation down the throat of a data-selling, user spying corporate entity that may or may not exist anymore in a month or may just lock / disable your account whenever they feel like it. At least for me thats a total no-go, which is why I would go with Obsidian any day of the week.
Thanks for commenting! Very good points made, but hopefully through the guarantee that the company has stated (as I mentioned in the video), there will still be an open-source version of the app ready to download locally. But yes, non-local storage as of now can definitely serve as a huge problem for users who need privacy over their notes! Hope that helps :) Continue sticking with Obsidian for now, probably the better choice for you :)
Thank you Ren for this new review. You're very convincing ;), although I still need to see in what sense it is better than obsidian in creating a personal long term research database.
Thanks for this comment, Robert! I recommend sticking with Obsidian for research purposes, and only using RemNote for academic purposes (which is what I have currently been doing). Hope that helps :)
@@NotesWithRen I still need to practise using both, but yeah I think that's the idea..RemNote may be unbeatable as all in one solution for studying..Obsidian could be used for other things
Agreed, the aesthetics of the app is its greatest flaw, especially the flashcard design. Surely, the team will enhance the UX/UI further down the line. For next term I'm going to be taking all my notes in XMind, a mind mapping app. Same idea, have collapsable notes that are all linked together. But have a more visually appealing map of course content. This does mean keeping Anki around, but for certain math, accounting and finance courses, you don't want a database of practice questions huddled in your notes anyway.
@@NotesWithRen No probs. It's not perfect, lacks the scalability that Rem & Obsidian has (What if one concept links to more than four others? Will get VERY messy). PLus, if I want to share my mind map with the hidden notes, then my class mates will need Xmind to open the file. Still on the hunt for the perfect app. One day! Will keep my eye on your channel for anything new. Thanks!
Thanks for the comment , Sreyas! Welcome to the family :) I can work on a RemNote tutorial video in the future, I'll add that to my list of video ideas. Thanks for the suggestion!
Does RemNote have "tag" functionality? i.e., allowing you to quickly assign a single bullet point to more than one area of the subject matter? In some disciplines, such as law, one bullet pointed idea can apply to several areas of the law, i.e., across a sub-set of cases. It would be nice not to have to re-enter the bullet pointed idea multiple times in each area that it applies, but instead just apply a tag for each area that it applies.
I have doubts about this app. I like obsidian a lot, but these features looks great. There are should be some plug in for obsidian (maybe it will appear later) which is doing the same thing. I understood right, they save their database in a cloud?
I am a visual learner so the visual asthetics is a big thing to me but the interface is exactly what my brain needs to see so I am not going to complain.
Hi just found your channel and I am so glad. I am seeing so much potential for both my school and work flow. Do you use multiple note-taking apps for different reasons such as personal, school, youtube, or work? If so would you be willing to do a video dedicated to how you personally use each app and how manageable that is?
Thanks so much for commenting BRose! Absolutely, I use several different apps in my complete workflow, actually :) I have an exciting video coming soon giving a glimpse into all of that, so stay subscribed to find out more about it! Welcome to the family :)
This is amazing! I wish it came on the market sooner! Thank you for your guide. I am delighted tp subscribe! Is it permissible to introduce my family members to this amazing study tool?
hi, you mentioned that one of the cons of using remnote is that there is a steep learning curve- does that mean it takes longer to grasp concepts on there right? if you are able to, could you expand on that please?
Thanks for the comment, Nicolas! I currently alternate between the Apple Calendar app and Google Calendar, although I am planning on testing out a new one soon!
Love the work you're doing. I believe these videos could be vastly improved with a bit more background music; just a suggestion though -- keep doing what you're doing.
GREAT video! I am not tech pro and you have simplified things in such a clear way. Thanks a ton! Got a question about importing media. I have tried copy paste, dragging it, and forward slash but no pics are pasted. Can you please advice?
Thanks so much for commenting, Manar! In order to add a picture into RemNote, type "/image" and you will be able to add in the image URL. Hope that helps :)
I’ve herd of this and that it’s really good. However I didn’t watch the whole video as I don’t go to university anymore. I like to learn and study on my own. The only thing I’m confused about is that is this app only for MacBooks or can I just use this entirely with my iPad Pro 2020 only? As I take all my notes and study only on that device because I don’t own a laptop.
Which app do you prefer for book notes - Obsidian, RemNote or RoamResearch? I like the way to link pages & words between notes that I've already written about books, that's why I haven't included Notion on that. Obsidian looks kinda weird as the symbols **, __, etc always keep in the phrase.
I personally have been using Obsidian for note taking of books, but possibly transitioning to Roam if I have the chance - I'll need to try it out. As of now, I am only using RemNote to study content for academic purposes.
Thanks for recommending the app. This is a great app for taking notes. I have started using it for my personal use. Any ideas on how to make these notes visually appealing and in a presentable format?
One idea could be to convert them to mindmaps. Export the notes into markdown format and then use markmap like tools. Still thinking of something better.

Thank you for the detailed video and the timestamps are really a time saver!
Thank you so much for watching! Glad I could help :)
Your videos are really engaging! ::
-Easy to follow
-Very comphrehensive
Great explanatory vid. Thanks for the overview. New sub
Really appreciate it, Aprenda! Welcome to the family :)
Mike and Matty made our lives easier
Agreed, the aesthetics of the app is its greatest flaw, especially the flashcard design. Surely, the team will enhance the UX/UI further down the line.
For next term I'm going to be taking all my notes in XMind, a mind mapping app. Same idea, have collapsable notes that are all linked together. But have a more visually appealing map of course content. This does mean keeping Anki around, but for certain math, accounting and finance courses, you don't want a database of practice questions huddled in your notes anyway.
Thanks so much for introducing me to XMind! I’ll have to check it out for sure!! It sounds like you’ve got a great workflow going for you :)
Thanks!
Thanks again, Tyler! It seems like it’s definitely at least somewhat helpful, so I’ll let you know what I think!
Nice work. Please make a video on how to use remnote. By the way subscribed. 👍
Thanks for the comment , Sreyas! Welcome to the family :) I can work on a RemNote tutorial video in the future, I'll add that to my list of video ideas. Thanks for the suggestion!
Fantastic video, loved it :)
Thank you so much, Akshay! I’m so glad you enjoyed :)
Excellent video. Thank you very much. I will certainly give it a try!
Thanks so much for commenting, Charles! I’m glad you took something away from it :)
I just paid a believer plan on my Roam research. Measure my sadness in my after watching this
Amazing! Super excited to learn more about this! Subscribed too
This was the best!!!
Thanks for the info. Looks nice, will try it out.
This was extremely helpful
Fantastic video!
I really appreciate your feedback, thanks Israel!
Good Video!! I'm a really big fan of Notion at the moment, but I'm thinking about trying this app out as well for my next exam.
Thanks so much for commenting! I’m glad you enjoyed the video :)
Glad you could get something out of this video :) Yes, definitely hope the developers start working on aesthetics though!
NotesWithRen Yes and thank you for making it. This will help me so much with organizing video notes and scripts
Thank god I'm a subscriber :-)
Thanks for being part of the family, Francisco :)
What about our information security? Have you already used the app?
Great vid! What calendar app do you use for your daily tasks?
Thanks for the comment, Nicolas! I currently alternate between the Apple Calendar app and Google Calendar, although I am planning on testing out a new one soon!
This vid is a real gem.... ✌️👌✌️
nem sei como cheguei aqui, mas muito obrigado pelo conteúdo extraordinário!!! i´ll defintely try this RemNote right now hahahah
I like that you study theology ... because I study theology too.
The mobile option is great tipp ... thanks
No problem, thank you Andreas! Glad you enjoyed :)
Love the work you're doing. I believe these videos could be vastly improved with a bit more background music; just a suggestion though -- keep doing what you're doing.
you definitely sold me on
Thanks Juan! Hope you enjoy RemNote :)
No regrets. Awesome content!
Thanks so much for the comment, Kinley! Hope to see you back on the channel soon :)
wow ! I think I will switch from Notion to RemNote, it seems great
Thanks so much for commenting, Hector! Glad I could introduce RemNote to you :)
This and you are incredible!!
Thank you so much Naira! That seriously means so much :)
You are amazing. Thank you so much!
Omg you are right HAHAHA this is everything I need, from Toggling, portals, cloze and a whole bunch of stuff, I had to use 3-4 different apps 😂😂
Thanks for commenting, Aaron! Absolutely true haha it's definitely a game changer!
How learning curve and asthetic appearance are cons? I couldn't understand.
Going to try this right now
Which app do you prefer for book notes - Obsidian, RemNote or RoamResearch?
