How to Stream Audio on Discord for Linux (Soundux)

- Found out about Soundux through one of the Linux subreddits I follow. This application can of course be used to record both application audio, and your mic in SimpleScreenRecorder, as well as Zoom if you want to pull off a funny.
Hope this helps. Questions, and subsequent community help in the comments are welcome.
Edit: Soundux is also available as a package in Debian, as well as in the AUR. Flatpak is more universal, but use what floats your boat.

Additional tips if the audio is breaking when you are streaming a movie:
Disable Echo Cancellation, Noise Reduction, and Automatic Gain Control.
Although this can worsen your mic quality, my own solution was connecting my android phone via bluetooth, sounds from phone should passthrough the linux desktop. Then just open a live voice playback (I use VoicefX)

When I try to apply pass through it always says it fails, without any elaboration. Does anyone have any clue as to how to fix this?
For some reason there is pretty much no reviews, discussions, or videos on Soundux despite it being around for so long, I usually like to look at the features of programs before I try them myself. EDIT: oh right because they announced a major rewrite 2 years ago and abandoned the project...
Damn, really? I'm sorry to hear, I still use it for soundboard purposes (I clearly didn't know what that was back when I recorded this vid xD) and of course the audio-sharing. I hope a new & old team refine the project should the former have the drive, motivating the old team to potentially join back in.

Hi, for some reason Soundux let me choose an output but when I try to choose a passthrough it says Error: failed to load passthrough [or sth like that]
I don't know why it is; I have overlay ON.
The one thing I can tell that looks different in my screen than yours is that my STOP bottom is always gray, it doesn't turn green ...

i install soundux but yours commands does not work for but but i install as sudo apt install soundux and this me an application then i click on that but soundux was not open can you help me please i have an ubunto 22.04 version
I'm running into the problem of no longer being able to hear my own music as soon as I pass it through into discord. Participants in the call can hear both my music and voice just fine. Using VLC for it as well. Any solutions?
when I used soundux my friend were able to hear my sound but when they spoke i couldn't hear them (unless i turned off soundux)
Hmmmm, Soundux creates two vertual input devices, when you connect Soundux to Discord, did you ignore/click out of the "new audio device detected" pop-up?
I needed to use Timeshift to return the audio back to my mic default settings after using this. Stopping didn't really do that on it's own. Please make a full guide how to revert mic settings after using this, because Timeshift takes a lot of time.
That's strange, did you look in either the system or Discord's mic settings too?
This video is really old, I could certainly update it whenever things like my eyesight improve.

Every time I try to use it I get the message that the passthrough failed to start.
why can i not hear my friends in discord when using soundux
Used the exact same steps and instead of hearing my microphone, people just hear an echo of Discord.
Is there another piece of softeware I can use that doesn't crash. I use Kubuntu 18.04 AMD64

I've installed soundux but i cant choose any "Output application" or "pass through" application neither. Any tips?
Has the app in question made any sounds, alongside hitting the refresh button? If not, I'm not sure

I can stream audio on Discord on Linux and I've never even heard of this application.

Where soundux is installed? When I try to type it in terminal it doesn't show up

hey how does one add sounds to soundux?
Put al the sounds you want into a folder, then on the top-right, click on "add tab" and select the folder in the file-picker window.
So, since the microphone will be taking inputs from vlc, will it not take inputs from my voice?
It will, if you're in a call for example, people will heat both the application you selected, and your voice, as long as both are mixed well volume-wise from Soundux itself

@@kidcrumple2906 I don't know about soundux, but you can should do that with an audio patchbay like Carla/cadence from kxstudio (if you use pulseaudio) or helvum/qpwgraph (if you're using pipewire). They are the alternative for voicemeter banana (routing audio part). Well, Carla can also use plugins. You can use vst and LV plugins with Carla. Unfa has a video about it on his channel. I am using pipewire, so I prefer to use helvum or qpwgraph.

Does the program launch for you? If not, you may be on pipewire and may need to switch to pulseaudio. That’s how I fixed it on my end.

Discord will add pronouns but not linux audio support, although Steam deck doesn't care about your gender that you identify as.
