- Mandy's Broadway Stroll (A Genuine Ragtime March), composed in 1898 by Thomas E. Broady.
(Arrangement by Eugene V. Nelson) Broady only wrote a couple of noteworthy pieces, including this one, "A Tennessee Jubilee" and "Whittling Remus" before all but vanishing from the music scene in 1900. In Nashville where this rag was published, walking the red-light district was sometimes referred to as 'the stroll', so the woman on the cover is probably meant to be a 'lady of the evening', as it were. This piece was commissioned by one of my Ko-fi supporters. Enjoy! 🎼

Pretty sweet piece! 🙂
Superb!
Thanks so much for sharing again! Nice to see the quick smiles and imagine about 6 sheets of music set out in front of you as your eyes dart from one to the other. 😄 It looks so effortless, but know you've put lots of effort into preparing
Aw, thank you! Succeeding in making it look effortless is high praise 🥰
I'm not huge on subscribing but the content here has exposed me to so many different rags I had to subscribe. Thanks for making, sharing and entertaining us all.
It's much appreciated! I of course enjoy playing the 'classics' but getting to record and share the lesser-known pieces is really rewarding.
Great piece, isn't it? The pre-1900 rags are the BEST.
Yes, indeed! I'm working on another excellent one right now.
Got a question for you. Do you play all songs as written or do you do any improvising?
I'm not much of an improviser, so mostly played as written. I like to add the occasional flourish or embellishment in the repeats when it's appropriate, though 🙂
