Great information. I sometimes use these plastic bins to treat ill fish, but never thought of doing water changes with the same. Keep sharing, thanks Mark.
That's a great setup - especially using the pressure from the water company to get it up there rather than having to buy pumps.. Plus you wont have to do heavy lifting to help your back out too.
This is awesome Mark great setup. I tried something similar at one point but I found that the RO filters don't work as efficiently when the water output needs to go against the pressure of gravity (not sure if that makes sense lol). I have a piggy back ro setup so I have two membranes working at the same time and water pressure from my sink is high, not sure if I am missing something. Also my RO unit is pretty high in my kitchen as it is wall mounted and at eye level (I am 6 feet tall). When comparing my ro water output to water waste ratio I found thats optimum when my RO bucket is below the RO unit.
I have a question Mark. A fish breeder said the other day to be careful of using a trash bin for mixing or storing water because it can leech arsenic. I was planning on using a 20 gallon tall rectangular trash can for my RO because it’s the only thing I could think of that would fit in my closet, but now I’m scared. Then I heard you mention that your new containers are good grade; was your old blue barrel food grade? Should I be worried about it and can some plastic bins really leach out Arsenic?
yes my blue one was also food grade and yes you are correct to look for food grade stuff. plastics can leech things strong enough to kill bacteria, this is where people will get ammonia and nitrate reading in fresh RO if its stored in the wrong containers.
I have 3 little Tanks without pumps. I use light and in one of them is a heater 2. Aaaaand.... I dont change water in them. I fill it up, but i dont change the water. With enough Plants, Snails and not to much food it works very well without any technic. 👍🏻
Oh my.... this is exactly how I made it, and I agree it's the best way of all...
Streamlined setup there. I live at the bottom of a big hill so have excellent water pressure. Interesting. Cheers Mark
Love your videos, as a retired Navy Seabee i love to make my own setups. I don.t raise shrimp but i do raise wild caught discus. Joe H Navy Seabee
You're living my dream dude. Thanks for the videos! Keep up! Happy Shrimp Keeping! ❤

Simple science! If a 10-minute video is good then a 20-minute video is better

if you use tap water you will eventually run in to hardness issues
