Oh man...the happiest man...theese are moments, get it, and feel, he has the same opportunities as everybody else, dont make difference upon anybody else, just get up and live your life and love ♥️
The thing I love the most about this (and indeed, the rest of Snarky Puppy's music) is that unfailingly I hear something new in every play through. Fantastic.
Not only the music is extremely enjoyable with all its complexities and colours (I'll never get tired of that groove at 2:05), the video captures the spirit well and it is not to forget the last scene (Ferrari's stare). I think it adds a whole new sense to the music which got much deeper and darker in the last two minutes- an intense vortex that can be seen on the percussionist's eyes. A wise artistic choice. This band never ceases to amaze me, as well as all the other musicians who collaborate with them and the people who work with the band in other areas. Amazing.
I can just wonder! You guys have a wonderful team. Video makers and musicians. Thanks for putting such wonderful videos and music for us to see and cry, hehehe.
That look on her face at 3:53. The total joy that comes from having a room full of monster musicians playing the shit out of a song you wrote. True bliss. I can't get enough of this track, so great on every level.
+lamusic74 She wrote this? Any more info about that? I don't know anything about her except for this song. I'm so blown away by this one so I'm really interested.
+Ceri Just look at the credits, she wrote the song. Snarky Puppy did the arrangement though, which is no doubt a major factor in the overall awesomeness, but she wrote fantastic lyrics and a beautiful song.
The percussion solo beginning at 4:23 is absolutely brilliant. The sounds he is getting out of the instruments are perfect, as is the mic placement. Compositionally, it's a masterpiece of thematic development. He draws heavily from middle-eastern and world rhythms, while also managing to introduce polyrhythms, beat displacement and even full on metric modulations. He approaches dynamics from a place of symmetry and balance - he always uses louds and softs in equal parts to tell the story. Probably the most musical percussion solo I've ever heard.
Is Snarky Puppy the only group to be able to pull off the use of an obscure swedish instrument and make it sound awesome? Man, these guys creativity continues to astound me, even though I should not be surprised.
As many have asked about this: The instrument in the beginning is called "nyckelharpa". The nyckelharpa is a Swedish string-instrument, and actually Sweden's national instrument. Väsen is a Swedish folkmusikband, one of the absolute biggest names in that scene, and one of the four members (only three are playing here) plays the nyckelharpa.
First time watching: Omg this too much going on Several times: Now I'm truly listening into this beautiful perc solo Countless times: Mmm-Hmmm

I've totally lost count of how many times I've viewed and shared this totally mindblowing video of an absolutely stellar performance!! Väsen is my favourite Swedish folk group of all time! Fabulous players! They've been around for ages, Snarky Puppy is a fairly recent addition to the evergrowing list of amazing new artists that have blown me away. Becca Stevens was totally new to me when I watched the vid for the first time when it was posted in the beginning of the year but she's a brilliant singer-songwriter that I've listened a lot to lately with great great pleasure. And André Ferrari...my goodness...a more creative and truly original percussionist is almost impossible to find...a legend!
I always realise how little I know about music when I watch Snarky Puppy. Just discovered several new instruments that I previously didn't even know existed!
Her voice is overwhelmingly beautiful, wraps you like a cozy blanket. And coming together with Snarky Puppy... makes my heart want to burst! Guess (maybe) it would go like this: I asked my love What do you need To make your wild heart beat And this, my love, He said to me Wholeheartedly Whatever makes you happy, darling Whatever makes you smile for me Whatever makes you happy That’s all I need It’s over times (In sober times?... still not sure) When troubles find A taste for gravity I ask myself What do you need To let the weight release Whatever makes you happy, darling Whatever makes you smile for me Whatever makes you happy That’s all I need I asked my love What do you need To make your wild heart beat Gorgeous song, amazingly executed...
Had the chance to see Väsen in Madrid almost 20 years ago. I believe Olov & Roger and André are true masters, no doubt. Roger returned once more, with Annbjorg Lien, and had the opportunity to talk wth him about his unusual guitar technique. A gentleman and a genius.
It always baffles me how consistently these cats can come out with such amazing, soulful material that is all unique from anything they've done in the past. You can't buy or make that kind of talent...so much skill going on here I can't even. See they made me white girl out for a second.
I attended the live recording of Snarky Puppy Family Dinner Volume 2 on Valentine's Day 2015 in New Orleans.I predict this will be the least "popular" track on RUclips after the full release, but I also believe it is the most expressive/artistic track I heard performed. :-)Bravo & Brava
When I think back on how tumultuous and, well, crappy 2016 has been for so many people, I consider that the rich, beautiful, and creative music we’ve been blessed with this year almost makes up for it. And speaking personally, #FamilyDinner2 has been the absolute highlight. Thank God for the Puppies!
I definitely hear you. There is certainly hope for the future of music! And I agree, the versatility of these musicians, paired with their obvious love for music, is impressive and inspiring.
Nyckelharpa - Sveriges nationalinstrument ! 😃 The Key harp is Swedens national instrument. Snarky puppy makes me cry too.. A lot is thanks to Michael League's genius.
This was incredible. What a great musical moment. Such an interesting song, such unusual phrasing and an extraordinary arrangement and impeccable performance.
I cried, really. The final part... Omg what definitely made me cry (in a positive way, of course, caused by awesomeness) was the last shot... I guess I can't really explain it. That close-up to his face while he ends the song with that delicated "ding" sound and his look into the rest of the musician, enjoying the last moments of sound, feeling all that connection between every one in the room... That's what I call an end.
yes Paula Berga you do get it .. I had a similar thought ... it's something about being so much inside the moment of creation ... where everything counts/ is important, and nothing - not even the most infinitesmal part or nuance - is for naught. His face tells you that - it's a moment of living ...
This song can almost be divided into two different songs, the part where Becca Stevens sings and the instrumental part that follows. The first time I watched this I couldn't believe that no one had mentioned Andre Ferrari, the percussionist who takes us under his spell for 2 or 3 minutes with the help of the singers repeating the, "Hmm, Um-hmm," being careful not to mess up the order. Being a percussionist myself, it's hard for me not to count while I listen to the rhythms, and the atmosphere, and let it wash over me.
The Puppies do things so well that even if I'm not into a certain style, I can still dig it when it's done by them. They make it easier for me to get out of my musical comfort zone and that's pretty rad.
I could cry, I've been listening to Snarky Puppy the past three days, and it makes me both sad and happy. I've spent most of my life in a room writing music, afraid to do it. This is the first time I've ever heard a music group read my mind, and make it the best. I don't mean to be arrogant, they did it much better than I could have imagined, but it inspires me.
This is so excellent. It's one of my favorite songs. There's also something inarticulable (a feeling) that Becca emits/that her voice evokes. It's beautiful to listen to!
50 years later they will write about this: " a wonderful piece of musical history" - held my breath from about 6:00 'till the end. cannot remember a song ending with such dramatic tension.
They [The Snark Family] just keep R A I S I N G the bar and music greatness . . . gonna have to create some new words . . . THANKS for "feeding my need" Snarky Puppy!!!! MAN oh man!!!
Becca's sooo beautiful!! And that music.. Snarky Puppy's ability to perfectly balance experimentation and traditional influences is just astonishing. This is Music at its finest!
"It truly makes the most beautiful music Everything it has to give It's everywhere hiding the listener Without it I could not live ...Silence" I always thought that music is about both silence and sound. Thanks for sharing this. :)
favorite track on the album. thank you becca Stevens for writing such a gorgeous song and Andre ferrari for the only solo I look forward to. I'd like to hear more of this melancholy, celtic slanted music. snarky puppy all day for me today.
It’s just a fact of life that singers without even remotely possessing the talents of Becca seem to have private jets, bodyguards, mansions..etc. Funny thing. This is exquisite.
I was in the audience for this live performance -- Valentines Day 2015 in New Orleans. I was also in the audience on 5-16-2019 when Becca Stevens opened for Jacob Collier at The Howard Theater in DC when she performed this epic piece SOLO :-O Becca had the audience channel their inner Snarky Puppy and provide the vocal background texture. mmmm... m mmmm... m mmmm... mmmmm m [repeat] André Ferrari is absolutely amazing at the end of this video. :-O
I dunno what it is about this track but it's utterly enchanting. The groove under that very seductive vocal is the balls as far as I'm concerned. These guys are just mind blowing talents.
snarky puppy delivers more original musical ideas/elements per tune than anybody I can think of they taste more like a village "collective" than a band or orchestra? a beautiful sampling of a mutually hearing community
this is amazing. i don't know how you arrange this stuff Michael... this video introduced me to like 8 new instruments, and there has probably never even been a song to include even half of these instruments together. You guys are going places nobody else can. Keep it up!
Micheal League is the happiest guy on this planet even while he's only humming.
Oh man...the happiest man...theese are moments, get it, and feel, he has the same opportunities as everybody else, dont make difference upon anybody else, just get up and live your life and love ♥️
MM HMM
Mm hmm
Snarky Puppy never disappoints. I didn't even know I wanted to hear that
It's so good to see Becca Stevens getting the audience she deserves. "Perfect Animals" was a masterpiece.
The thing I love the most about this (and indeed, the rest of Snarky Puppy's music) is that unfailingly I hear something new in every play through. Fantastic.

Ever notice that the Guests always get that "holy crap this band is so great" look when they do these? EVERY TIME! I'm am all about that Snark.
Knowing that there are people like this out there makes me want to explore the world and it's cracks that are canyons of beauty.
I feel like crying every time I watch snarky puppy' videos. So much inspiration and talent. It's just wonderful.
+H Mohr I cry a lot.
I can just wonder! You guys have a wonderful team. Video makers and musicians. Thanks for putting such wonderful videos and music for us to see and cry, hehehe.
That ending is still the coolest thing ever
This song has almost infinite replay value.
DAMN!!! To be in sync with that heartbeat at the end...TOO good to be REAL. Wonderful work using music in a creative manner.
That look on her face at 3:53. The total joy that comes from having a room full of monster musicians playing the shit out of a song you wrote. True bliss. I can't get enough of this track, so great on every level.

+lamusic74 "When troubles find, a taste for gravity." Beautiful line.
Never thought I would see Snarky Puppy play with swedish folk-musicians, this is awesome
this my friend, is a whole new level of musical performance
The percussion solo beginning at 4:23 is absolutely brilliant. The sounds he is getting out of the instruments are perfect, as is the mic placement. You cant say it any better than this. 100% agree
I think this is the best outro in the history of humanity.
Was thinking the same.
Is 5 am im getting back to sleep, but im here for that outro haj
This song is one of the reasons I still believe in Music
Ditto
Is Snarky Puppy the only group to be able to pull off the use of an obscure swedish instrument and make it sound awesome? Man, these guys creativity continues to astound me, even though I should not be surprised.
Incredibly shot video. I love the focus on the percussionist at the end.
I mean it was his solo...
Absolutely.....that part was great and he finished it off so well.
I have always really appreciated the cinematography of Snarky Puppy MVs
Went to percussion heaven and back for those last 2 minutes...
Come on you all!!! Dissonant thickness with those chimes. Beautiful...beautiful chants. Well done, thank you.
As many have asked about this:

I asked my love
What do you need
To make your wild heart beat
And this, my love,
He said to me
Wholeheartedly
Whatever makes you happy, darling
Whatever makes you smile for me
Whatever makes you happy
That’s all I need
It’s over times (In sober times?... still not sure)
When troubles find
A taste for gravity
I ask myself
What do you need
To let the weight release
Whatever makes you happy, darling
Whatever makes you smile for me
Whatever makes you happy
That’s all I need
I asked my love
What do you need
To make your wild heart beat
Gorgeous song, amazingly executed...
The percussionist ending though. SO EPIC
This outro is on another level

Nice, good to see Shaun martin made it to this family dinner.
Just came from the screening in Boston... and you are all in for a treat. Unbelievable talent and musicianship.
That rocks.
Thanks for the amazing cinematography!!!

These guys ara totally insane.
+Pablo Osso I can back that up.
Dear God I love Becca's voice
Nyckelharpa - Sveriges nationalinstrument ! 😃
The Key harp is Swedens national instrument.
Snarky puppy makes me cry too..
A lot is thanks to Michael League's genius.
The end section is some of the dopest sound from a live band I've heard in long time.
WHAT ON EARTH WAS THAT.
Please never stop.
This was incredible. What a great musical moment. Such an interesting song, such unusual phrasing and an extraordinary arrangement and impeccable performance.
That ending. So spot on. Gaaaaaaad damn
I cried, really. The final part... Omg what definitely made me cry (in a positive way, of course, caused by awesomeness) was the last shot... I guess I can't really explain it. Agreed ! I had a similar experience. Goosebumps all over !
I'm 66. I love Snarky puppy. Put this on your soundtrack for when you want to get nekkid with the one you want to make happy...and do what they want.
My won't stop staring at me. What do I do?
Find out what makes them happy.
The Puppies do things so well that even if I'm not into a certain style, I can still dig it when it's done by them. They make it easier for me to get out of my musical comfort zone and that's pretty rad.
OH man, I can seriously not get ENOUGH of this track! Aaarrrghh!
The ending was absolutely incredible

Just coming back for my yearly dose of Andre Ferrari's incredible outro
This is really special. First time someone makes the Snarkers transform into their Guests! Nice grooves and musical habitats..
Great observation.
Watched it several times yesterday, looking like several more times on the forecast for today. The full release can't come soon enough!
I can't even right now. Thanks Snarky Puppy
+Ehh flat same
+Ehh flat LAWL yes
annually I keep coming back to this. it just feels like home, I don't know why.
Same
same
Every time this band makes new music I fall in love all over again.
This is so excellent. It's one of my favorite songs. There's also something inarticulable (a feeling) that Becca emits/that her voice evokes. It's beautiful to listen to!
What does Shrek, Onions, and Snarky Puppy have in common?
Layers. They all have layers... and they make you cry.
:-D
50 years later they will write about this: " a wonderful piece of musical history" - held my breath from about 6:00 'till the end. cannot remember a song ending with such dramatic tension.
Just... no words. Snarky Puppy will never cease to amaze me with their talent, genius, creativity and passion. Forever a fan and spreading the word! 😉
At last new roads in the music landscape opened again. Thank you!
I CAN'T BELIEVE the timbre on those trumpets with that nyckelarpa. Never thought muted brass could blend in so well with strings
Muted trumpet is the best kept secret in music...
Muted trumpet and dobro work real well together if you can get past the cultural clash.
I love how there could be 30 musicians and singers playing at the same time and it never sounds crowded...
even with 2 drummers !
the sound engineer was doing a really good job on this one
@@ArthurGanem 4 drummers! Or percussionists anyway...
Snarky Puppy sprinkles magic all over Becca Stevens' "I Asked"!!
They snuck in a nasty nasty chord in there on the word “smile.” Absolutely gorgeous composition and arrangement.
It's Bmaj/C# if anyone's wondering...
The baddest group/band/orchestra of this generation is back with another banging Family Dinner album!
WOW. I really enjoy this beautiful mixture of the swedish melancholy and the constantly adaptable Snarky Puppy sound. Love it!
The percussion is out of this world!!
So much to unpack here, but if I'm really being honest, I have to say that watching this literally made me cry.
NO WORDS can describe this for me.... That outro was sickening! I'd give this 100 likes if I could.
They [The Snark Family] just keep R A I S I N G the bar and music greatness . . . gonna have to create some new words . . . THANKS for "feeding my need" Snarky Puppy!!!! MAN oh man!!!
Such a beautiful percussion solo
Becca's sooo beautiful!! And that music.. Snarky Puppy's ability to perfectly balance experimentation and traditional influences is just astonishing. This is Music at its finest!
How gorgeous is this? Can't stop.
Crazy...i hear a complete and strange silence after the music ended. The silence is louder than my kids' tv show in the other room. Awesome work!!!
"It truly makes the most beautiful music
Everything it has to give
It's everywhere hiding the listener
Without it I could not live
...Silence"
I always thought that music is about both silence and sound. Thanks for sharing this. :)
aknopf, that quote is on point...I love it! You're welcome and thank you for sharing your insight :-)
a dream come true... Väsen is the music of my childhood :D:O !!
This here is a whole 'nother level of blue grass, folk fusion funk, and "That's all I need".
The intro feels like you are sitting along a stream and enjoying the view! :') Too good
This is like every style of music in one song.
favorite track on the album. thank you becca Stevens for writing such a gorgeous song and Andre ferrari for the only solo I look forward to. I'd like to hear more of this melancholy, celtic slanted music. snarky puppy all day for me today.
I think I saw this girl in Jacob Collier's tiny desk. Man, she is way more powerful as a lead than what I was expecting. Brilliant!
Snarky Puppy!!! You guys are all masters of Music Imagination... WoW
Just listened again for the umpteenth time. Totally blown away again...
This is just too much.
these guys are genius
this takes me through an universe of emotions that I felt like there is actual meaning in life
Väsen is a Swedish folk band. I love that Snarky connects to the world. This is swedish folk-groove at its best.
+Ole Bjarne Mogård True true!! Fantastic combo!!
Dude, a thousand props to the camera person (or director of photography) on that shot right there. 6:20
Absolutely amazing moment.
Mesmerizing sound, she is fantastic
new generation of music...
Snarky-best,as always
Damn, precussion went hard on this one.
I keep coming back to this. Spare, imaginative arrangement. Just perfect. What a great, great track.
+Bristol Pre-conservatoire
Yes I do too its just so rhythmic with a certain sexiness.
I have never heard Becca Stevens before but I am utterly entranced by her amazing voice.
She is amazing, indeed!
She has done some incredible stuff with Jacob Collier.
This has become my favorite and most listened to piece by Snarky Puppy and guests.
It’s just a fact of life that singers without even remotely possessing the talents of Becca seem to have private jets, bodyguards, mansions..etc. Funny thing. This is exquisite.
no its not, welcome to life and all of the human history ... talent is not what you are paid for, sadly
This is hot. YIKES!!! I love how some of the musicians, mainly piano players switch to organ, rhodes, moogs n all.
I was in the audience for this live performance -- Valentines Day 2015 in New Orleans.
I was also in the audience on 5-16-2019 when Becca Stevens opened for Jacob Collier at The Howard Theater in DC when she performed this epic piece SOLO :-O
Becca had the audience channel their inner Snarky Puppy and provide the vocal background texture. mmmm... m mmmm... m mmmm... mmmmm m [repeat]
André Ferrari is absolutely amazing at the end of this video. :-O
it's actually in 15/4 and they go mmhmm... mmhmm... mmhmm...hmm...(repeat)
I've always wondered what was the mix like live. Must've been quite an experience.
man that ending is just beautiful
Every once in a while I get back to this video and I still get amazed by its beauty and the PERFECT ENDING. Thank you so much!
I dunno what it is about this track but it's utterly enchanting. The groove under that very seductive vocal is the balls as far as I'm concerned. These guys are just mind blowing talents.
snarky puppy delivers more original musical ideas/elements per tune than anybody I can think of
they taste more like a village "collective" than a band or orchestra? a beautiful sampling of a mutually hearing community
i actually cried listening to this, jewelry to ears
Masterpiece!!!!!!!!
this is amazing. i don't know how you arrange this stuff Michael... this video introduced me to like 8 new instruments, and there has probably never even been a song to include even half of these instruments together. You guys are going places nobody else can. Keep it up!
