    I'm hearing a squeaky noise in the front end of my 2012 Ford F-150 4x4 when I'm going over uneven roads. Will a bad lower ball joint squeak or is it always a clunk?

  • @dangerousfreedom4965
    @dangerousfreedom4965 6 лет назад

    I’ve been chasing a popping noise on a 2000 4x4 excursion usually happen when turning. My first thought was the universal joint in the axle but that’s not it
    2nd thought was the sway bar & or endlinks they seam tight.
    I’ll check out the ball joints next I hope the are good, they can be a mother to replace.

    Would a ball joint cause me not to have any steering when loaded but when unloaded be able to turn the wheel normally?
    I jacked the truck up from the center cross member and was able to turn the steering wheel with ease, soon as I put it on the ground, no steering.

  • @jasonjoncas5998

    Always checked this style of suspension at 6 & 12 for upper and lower ball joint wear. My 2007 f 150 has had an annoying rattle felt in the steering wheel on low speed turns over the shitty roads in Hamilton Ontario .Already replaced upper control arms at 38k now right one at 120k gone again no play previous checks.Going to check the lowers again with this method. Enjoy your videos as a fellow mechanic that is a heavy truck tech dont get to get your experence on the smaller stuff.With having both truck and coach and automotive licences since 1991 I have seen a lot of backyard crap videos so kudos on yours

    What is the best way to grease/lube areas that don't have the grease fittings anymore? I keep reading that it will make some of the components last much longer. Some youtubers have modifications (needle going in the rubber sock and then seal it, others have actually drilling and adding a coupler). I was wondering about your opinions on those modifications. I wonder if drilling and adding a couple to add grease will weaken the ball joint in any way.

  • @ozzstars_cars

    From my experience any of these ford trucks or vans with oem balljoints and around 80K+ miles need balljoints. I have seen this issue time and time again for the past 25+ years. Before that is was kingpin failure. The oem's balljoints have no grease fittings! I use Moog which is better than the chineese crap that is half price but does also have zerks.

    • @ozzstars_cars
      @ozzstars_cars 8 лет назад

    • @ozzstars_cars

      +Thomas Hood interesting that you saw a chinese label. I have put entire new front ends on at least 4 or 5 vehicles in the past year or so and I only use Moog. I have not seen any Made in China labeled Moog parts so far. I also have not had any front end reliability issues with any of the work vehicles, cargo vans.

    So you're actually checking BOTH upper and lower ball joints at the same time? If the movement isn't seen in the lower (easier to see) ball joint then we should look for movement in the upper ball joint? Or, is there another test for checking the upper ball joint?

    • @FM4AMGV
      @FM4AMGV 8 лет назад

      +Josh's Model Airplanes you don't need to do that at all. there's sets of presses and stuff that can be rented from the part stores. i believe the arms are aluminum and so they aren't rusty. it's like $23 for a ball joint or 200 for a loaded control arm... look up videos on pressing in ball joints. I know Chrisfix has one.

    Why do these vehicles have such small joints that causes them to wear out so fast. The company should have thought of a better design to bear such a heavy weight. I'm battling this issue with my step Dad 2010 F-150 which also has bad wheel bearings as well.

  • @whytecoon
    @whytecoon 8 лет назад

    FordTechMakuloco, my F150 is lifted 8" with 38x15.50 tires. Are you for or against the balancing bead method of wheel balancing? Shops have a hard time balancing them. Thanks!

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  8 лет назад

      +whytecoon if they can't balance them even with the right machine and adapters or the needed weight is too great then I would use bead balancing as a last resort but in general I have not seen good results from bead bags in passenger trucks.

      Moog just like many aftermarket parts are made in lots of different countries. Not all are made in China, but from my experience those that are, are mostly junk. It's a hit and miss where the parts come from anymore, but if you can try, get parts from nearly anywhere but China, they seem to be the worse for aftermarket parts... heck Mexico made is better than China made.

    Bryan, I have a question about my 2010 f150 lariat my AC works really good but my blower fan turns down the fan speed to low speed more quickly than it did in the past. I have checked the manual fan speeds and it works just fine on all speeds also it seems I have to lower the temp to get the fan speed to continue to blow strong when in the past I did not have to do this. 72 degrees would work just great all year round but now I have to lower the temp to around 70 ?? The Freon level is fine 27 ounces the outside condenser fan works great also. Could I have a bad temp sensor some where ?? please advise. No clicking sounds from the dash and both dual side work on temps high and low.
