Cassie you are right...Jason has NEVER given that sultry in awe look to anyone other than Carly...and I'm a huge JaSam fan but after watching all the Jason/Carly stuff I think that Jarly should have been together...they just have the best chemisty. Man the writers back then were on fire...and whoever wrote and directed this scene is amazing...I love this scene so much.

Except Elizabeth snatched him out from under her like she didn’t exist, and when Elizabeth was in his life, he didn’t even look at Carly. He would barely speak to her and Carly knows it. That’s why she hates Elizabeth so much. I believe Jason still loves Elizabeth this day and he does Carly he will. He’s in love with Elizabeth, I don’t believe he was ever in love with Sam.
