I want to thank you for talking about the strengths and advantages of the ++ COMT allele. Far too many discussions of this gene present it as a curse or a marker of inferiority. Even the "Warrior Vs. Worrier" name seems like a derogatory way of presenting it as inferior. No parent is going to hope and pray that their child becomes a "Worrier" instead of a "Warrior"!

I’m comt +/+. I feel on top of the world when I drink coffee but it also obliterates me in the end with stress, tension, anxiety & insomnia.

Im also COMT ++ . When I learnt that so many things in my life made sense! I have trouble falling asleep at night, it feels like my nervous system gets “overwhelmed “ at the end of the day even when tired. I also get VERY stressed by little things. I’ve learned they did studies on stress with army jet pilot and COMT ++ type pilots that had lots of training outperformed by far everyone in highly stressful scenarios. It gives me hope I can learn to manage my stress and get better with time.
I also have TERRIBLE pms problems, makes so much sense it would be related. I’ll investigate more into that.
I never heard about magnesium supplements, i will look into that!
Also, i’m an Hypersensitive Person, i wonder if there might be a correlation with COMT ++ ? Would you also happen to be one?
    Anyway super interesting video!

Hey, thanks for your comment and sharing! So great that you're aware of your genetics! There's definitely so much you can do. Magnesium for sure! Magnesium glycerinate in the morning + magnesium L-threonate in the evening is my favorite way to do it. I would also highly recommend going over to our website and checking out our Reishi Mushroom & Ashwagandha extracts for part of your evening routine. Here's a link to a video I made about all the best things you can do during the day to help with sleep... hope some of this will be helpful for you too! ruclips.net/video/cdvn3aWCdWE/видео.html
Regarding PMS, it's a great idea to get a full hormone panel done to understand where you're out of balance so you know what hormones need to be increased or decreased.
And on being a hypersensitive person... I don't think I would qualify as one myself. This is of course something that is both genetic and environmental in origin. There are multiple genes involved and COMT could be a contributing factor. Two other interesting genes for this are ADRA2b and 5-HTTLPR.
      Glad you enjoyed the video!

I am a female with one warrior and one worrier gene. I read on my Promethease report that, for all intents and purposes, the mixed model tracks as warrior? I generally feel I resonate more as a warrior
I have inattentive adhd and complex PTSD. My filter is generally intact in polite conversation but when being challenged or threatened I’m *very*reactionary. Logic and reason go out the window and I see red. I recognize that it’s actually harmful, especially as a modern day City denizen. I am trying to learn how to better self-regulate.
My mother is schizophrenic, she had an abrupt break around age 30. I was 12 when it happened, but we had many stressors before that (poverty, alcoholic father who abandoned us, etc.) Though I love her and she loved ME the best she could, the trauma from growing up with her illness still complicates my adult life and I am in treatment. When I was small I would go into flight mode as a means of self-preservation. I was given a depression diagnosis and was miserable until I was more properly diagnosed and began treatment years later at 43.
This makes me want to look at her report to confirm her COMT status . She did have a higher genetic likelihood of folate deficiencies, which also ties in with susceptibility to developing schizophrenia.
Very interesting. I can only hope to become more mindful and less reactionary. I have the genes, but knowing about them gives me more power in that I can better proactively self-regulate.

I knew that if I would take a too strong coffee late in the day I would have a hard time falling sleep, but I didn't realize that this effect could last for days! Falling asleep has always been a task. My fiancé says that my blood has cocaine lol. I thrive in high stress work environments as long as my job is not one of dealing with human emotions. People drama, personal problems, moodiness and lack of common sense at work really dry’s me out and fries me emotionally. I am having problems with drive, low mood, life enjoyment etc, I have been prescribed Adderall so I can work, which works great, but destroys my mood the days after and I feel much worse, everything sucks. I am COMT ++ and it doesnt sound like me because my symptoms sound more like - -, but your comment about caffeine might be really important, which is why I shared about adderall and how I know it brings me way down after. I didnt drink coffee until I was 25 or so and everyone was like I cant believe you dont drink coffee, but I just didnt need it. I went through a phase where I was staying up late and getting up early so I started drinking coffee, and now I drink coffee and energy drinks all the time. Its possible the constant everyday all day caffeine is giving me an adderall like dopamine crash the next day, but since its every day it a non stop low grade depression situation? I have breast cancer that is 100% estrogen driven even after hysterectomy. I was just told that I have a slow COMT enzyme. I know there is a connection but Dr's don't get it. What is the best to take... magnesium g and B complex? Please help.

I'm so sorry to hear about your breast cancer. It does make sense that being a poor methylator, you would have a hard time detoxifying estrogen. I'm definitely not a doctor and definitely not an oncologist, so I can't tell you what to do. All I can say is what I would do if I had breast cancer, which is cut out all sugar and carbs, eat an organic low-medium protein diet and take Turkey Tail, Chaga w/ betulin, Reishi, Cordyceps, Lion's Mane, liposomal Vitamin C, B Complex, weekly IV drips of high dose vitamin C and glutathione, Meriva Curcumin Phytosomes, liposomal D3/K2, DIM, Maitake D Fraction, Krill Oil, fresh broccoli sprouts, freshly ground flax, black cumin seed oil, liposomal melatonin (make quality sleep a top priority) and magnesium glycerinate and magnesium l threonate. I would also use the infrared sauna and hyperbaric chamber as often as possible, ideally every day. 🙏🏼

I’ve tried a host of supplements including magnesium glycinate/ threonate , Lithium orotate , glycine, Choline , adaptogens ie ashwaghanda Bacopa etc to no avail, I haven’t tried TMG/betaine yet though I’m unsure how I’d handle methylated compounds, a course I discovered recently suggested completely eliminating coffee / tea / chocolate which I’ve done since rvebekty but don’t feel any difference , they suggested it may take several weeks to feel any difference, supposedly chocolate contains tyramine and amphetamines like substances which hinder MAO activity and maybwreak havoc on vulnerable individuals, I’ve consumed it my entire life. I’m not sure what else to do, I’ve become increasingly more paranoid and irritated over a prologued period of time which had become more pronounced after dabbling with psychoactive substances (marijuana in particular) I’m 24. Irrespective of my mental symptoms, my estrogen and homocysteine is low.

@@addictivewellness I rechecked my gene report and I am actually ++. I was confused because few months ago I asked doctor to try Ritalin and it works like a magic. How come the amphetamine, i. e. Dopamine and NE stimulant works for me, slow COMT guy. I love (probably everybody) the high dopamine periods. I think we can swing between the two and probably COMT is not the only thing which matters. I guess if you cannot make enough Dopamine it does not matter how fast you can break it. Heeeelp! So confusing.

Consult with a functional medicine doctor specializing in genetics, but it if was me, as a starting point I would avoid high tyramine foods and go all out on stress management (exercise, meditation, sleep, magnesium, reishi mushroom, ashwagandha). And consider supplements like omega 3s and b vitamins that can also support neurotransmitter balance.
