Thank you! The pumping effect on the kick becomes more prominent when running the whole track through Phoenix, which I use to add saturation and distortion. I'm also using the master overdrive on the Digitone, which evens out the volume on everything coming out of it. I like to make my drum s a lot louder than the instruments so that when engaging the master overdrive, the drums are the first to distort. On the multiband expander I'm using a preset called "transparent" which pretty much just makes everything louder. It compress lows, mids and highs separately, and there's more compression action on the lows than the mids and highs and master volume.
Thank you! It's all sound locked and p-locked and microtimed to overlap =D. I'm using sounds with arp enabled to make it so I can play many hihats in a row with just 1 trig, which frees up a lot of trigs for kicks and snares. There's also a lot of p-locks on the amp decay time to add ghost notes.
Thank you very much, man! My theory is weak, but I tried to find the scale I was using. I think it's in C locrian, but the pads use notes outside of the scale. The bass only uses notes in that scale, afaik!
Thank you! All these sounds are coming from the Digitone, and it's all done in one take. Thank you very much, Ryan! It'd be awesome to showcase my whole process one day. I think I go into a different "mode" when making music on the Elektron boxes than when I use FL Studio. There's a lot more improvisation and happy accidents, and rolling with them tends to give me the best results. It's the same with mixing; the Digitakt and Digitone don't have any meters or anything to show you how loud or soft a sound is, so they're practically training me to use my ears to make my judgements. I don't have to worry about clipping either, because there's so much headroom that setting everything to max volume still only pushes a dB-meter only halfway up. You *can* get it louder with delay feedback or max distortion and resonance, but that's rarely something I use in my tracks. Thanks for the constructive feedback :D
