@Lala Emm even worse, they hide behind the veneer of "the selfless woman" potrayed by what they imagine life was like for women in the centuries leading up to this. Very often these women don't have children or a family, they've never personally made any of the sacrifices they talk about. They assume they can make definitive statements on the happiness and wellbeing of women hundreds of years ago.
They then completely ignore the millions of men who died in war, crippled themselves to provide for their family, or moved across the world for an opportunity to provide for their family.
Never considering that maybe, just maybe, men and women are both drawn in equal parts to make sacrifices for the good of the family/children.

They decided to target their productions at a tiny niche fringe of society and are now disappointed with not only the size of their audience, but with the reactions they're receiving from the fans they abandoned, as well. They've turned a wildly successful franchise into a mock worthy travesty lacking any wide fan appeal, and they did it just to prove they could. Anything they find negative about how their presentations are accepted is exactly what they've earned for having betrayed the entertainment desires of their traditional viewer base. And they did all of that with a deliberate spite that stems from the delusional bigotry through which everything they attempt is filtered.

@@HerculesBallsInc Exactly, and the problem lies therein; nerds and geeks, specifically in this case comic book nerds and geeks, are the only ones willing to give EYES and DOLLARS to your... comic book based movies and tv shows. Sure the Avengers were big enough that 'everyone' could enjoy and follow thanks to "marvel humor" making everything easy to swallow, but now that that's done and they're moving on to more and more niche side characters and shows, those 'general audiences' aren't watching anymore, which leaves just the nerds and geeks... And telling them "this show/movie isn't made for you anyway so shut up" isn't going to endear them to you...
And it's not like in THE REAL WORLD there's actually enough blue haired blue checkmarks, let alone blue haired blue checkmarks who care about Disney's slop (beyond how they can use them to ratio people on twitter and promote their ideologies lmao), to make any of these new projects break even... Tracy was good throughout his career, but he had a run in the mid 30's to early 40's where he was as good as any film actor has ever been: "Fury," "Captains Courageous," "Boys' Town" and "Northwest Passage." At his peak, he was simply incredible. His portrayal of Robert Rogers in "Northwest Passage" is an almost perfect representation of leadership and command presence. Tracy's "Major Rogers" is the kind of the leader that one would follow into combat. (Contrast that with Morfydd Clark's laughable portrayal of leadership in ROP. Who would follow her "Galadriel" into a pillow fight, let alone into a real battle?)

Thank you guys for inviting Baggage Claim onto this platform. If it weren't for this channel, I never would have heard of her. I watched many of her videos, and they are insightful, clear-minded, and very well articulated. It really renders ineffective many criticisms of the woke, about how detractors of shows like Rings of Power and She-Hulk all hate these shows because of their sexism and racism, when an astute woman of color is eviscerating these shows with similar criticisms that supposedly "toxic males" have with those very same shows.

    • @aikighost
      @aikighost 2 года назад +7

The thing is their counter arguments that involve insulting suppoedly "toxic males" do not hold any water and do not win the shows they are defending any new viewers. Woke shows die every season when they didn't need to if they just stood back and wrote them properly.

That is definitely one of the most important points against all these woke creators and their defenders. When even the people you are trying to support tell you they don't want your support, then you are clearly not doing the right thing.
Its sad that it takes this sort of "reverse representation" to even start to get through to them. But since that's clearly all they see, and all they ever think about, that's probably what its going to take to get them to actually pay attention. We have to turn their shields into our swords.

It's what Hollywood doesn't seem to understand. Promoting stereotypes doesn't mean promoting minorities, it just means reinforcing those stereotypes. They rage against 'toxic masculinity', yet create toxic femininity and don't realise the problem is the toxic personalities, not the gender. The bigger problem is the writing in Bored of the Rings just sucks. Pretty much every scene seems to be either pointless, or goes on a beat or two too long. Sure, it's nice if you've got a horse fetish, but how in the name of Zeus's armpit did lines like 'There's a tempest in me!' escape the writer's room?

Be aware, but don't despair. It has versions in almost every language, but it warns us of letting our worries ruin the lives we lead. Free will is a skill, and these pill memes does the tyrants that claim there is no such thing a favor. We choose what we believe, and it's a power we must use responsibly. Only we heard the call to arms in the war to save pop culture and the Culture War began and we are winning if companies like Disney and Amazon have to run damage control over because of some people who have criticism for them and instead of being humbled by it they attack the very thing that made them rich and famous in the first place(the paying customer) and they are going to find out what will happen to them if they keep this attitude up and soon enough they will see what happens when you are forgotten, alone and penniless.

Honestly, guys, the minute you veered into how anyone with a closed-off, confrontational grudge against an entire population will never have a happy life, happy partnership, etc, I shed tears. Because I recently had partaken in another female artist's work and decided to check out her bio. Lo and behold, as if to affirm my slight misgivings, informed by other female artists I'd been burned by, she thinks of her work as an examination of the "subjecation of women in myth, fantasy". Immediately, my reflexes kicked in along with thoughts like "Oh god, here we go!". Because, again based on experience, "Subjecation of women" is followed up with "by men". Or by "Masculine Sensibilities" or whatever negative thing they ascribe to the male gender. Then I felt sad for it seems like every time I become interested in a female artist, there's always a catch. As if 95% of them have this implicit bone to pick with men, masculinity, male sensibilities, and so on. It's just too much for me that I'm so mentally drained, depressed, and hopeless. Much worse when it's male artists that follow this ideological lens verbatim. Hard not to feel so left out, alienated.

They're told they're supposed to feel like that. We're feeling the effects of raising a generation of girls who were told they could be Disney princesses if it only wasn't for those damn men holding them back, and that men are supposed to treat them like queens. They get into the real world and find out that some men will do that, get laid, and leave--they got what they want. Good men want nothing to do with them, because they want to be equal partners, not treated like shit. And they find out that Disney princesses exist in cartoons, and if you want to get somewhere in life, you need to work for it.
So they continue self-destructive behavior, assure themselves that it's all someone else's fault, and vote for people who promise them paradise for free. And sadly, many of them will die alone, disappointed, and remembered only by their cats--briefly.

Here's an addon to mine from a pro lead designer since 1995:
You have to make a distinction between a professional criticism from someone that works with you and criticism from the consumers.
Consumers do have (or should) follow the same rules than you do as a pro, and that include the way they will give you feedback.
You have to expect them to be way rougher, lacking the expertise to express their feeling or the care to do it in a agreeable way.
Part of being a pro is being able to take that kind of feedback and read between the line what the person giving it to you actually meant and why. Even a "that's shit" is a potentially valuable feedback that could help you realize something is wrong here and you need to take a look.
Way too many people that like to call themselves "pros" these days are incapable of that.

My policy has always been keep your career and politics separate because you never know if you're working with a person who's got a different and fierce opinion than you that's holding your safety line. Unfortunately Hollywood producers, writers, actors, and actresses of today don't have that mindset and the customers and fans are starting to let go.

I am sure that they stink but who are the people who actually sign off on it? It probably has to go through multiple levels of approval before they send the script to the actors. Isn’t the head of the studio ultimately responsible for what is produced? I’m not sure how all of that works so please let me know if I am incorrect.

As an unproduced writer, I ALMOST agree. There are other elements to consider in whether a project succeeds or fails but 90% of it relies on the writing because that is the backbone of storytelling. If the script fall apart, the rest of the movie/TV series goes with it. It doesn't matter how good the acting and effects are if the story can't support them.

The reason for the push was the migration of Tumblr essay writers to twitter where all the politicians and actors were. Interpreting fiction through a political/queer/feminist lens became more mainstream when before it was regulated to small blogs. It was always part of a niche, overthinking section in fandom, and it's losing relevancy because it's not creating fun entertainment.

If you watch The Suicide Squad, you can see that James Gunn has a particular way he structures stories and ways he writes characters, and Guardians are of a piece with that. Back when comics were first big -- before TV, even -- the stories were about the superheroes fighting street crime and corruption. Batman took on the mob for selling bad cement to public works; Superman took on the Klan (in the 1940s and 50s!). The 70s era Doctor Who had one or two save-the-universe plots, but most stories were about local villains and helping people in need.
Today every plot has to be about a threat to the universe, and the odds of Hollywood taking on corruption is near zero. They'll take on the Klan -- but they'll inflate it to hundreds times it's real size, act as if it's still a force in politics and they'll never, ever, ever look too closely at the villainy of Greens and Antifa.

So I've recently watched "The Witch. Part 2. The Other One" (and based on the open ending, it seems there will be a third movie) and was struck at how they introduced brand new female and male characters and how you didn't need to destroy the male characters to make the female ones shine. Everybody was just competent characters (not to mention genetically enhanced supermen and superwomen), with some being more psychotic than others, and you had civil engagements between the characters (right up to the moment where the main character goes FULL Carrie x 10), and even moments of humor that seems JUST right without being overbearing or all over the movie. The MC's discovery of food outside of the lab was SUCH a joy to see as a comedic moment, because it rings to true (especially for me). It's one of the few movies where I'm ACTUALLY looking forward to a third movie.
Then I look at Western entertainment.... and bloody hell.... we're falling behind so FAR, QUICKLY and BADLY in entertainment it's not even funny.

It's been a very interesting progression on what's been happening with reviews. Traditionally, if there was a huge spread between critic and audience reactions it was that critics hated something that was widely popular. This actually makes a bit of sense; critics would be more likely to analyze all the different aspects of media and find faults that would be forgiven by the paying public since the whole can be larger than the sum of the parts. Now things are completely flipped on its head. Mainstream critics refuse to find fault with anything that has messaging in it and audiences are more willing to say the Emperor has no clothes.
I'll point the finger at a couple of things for this. Firstly, back in the day critics had more immunity from unpopular opinions since they had job security being paid by informational news outlets. If Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert gave your flick two thumbs-down, film industry backlash didn't matter to them since they would still get their checks from the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times newspapers. Nowadays the entertainment media and informational media are owned by the same few companies so there's a clear conflict of interest there. Plus the Internet has spawned a generation of "critics" for which genuine critical thinking doesn't provide real job security and they have a vested interest in getting handouts from the entertainment industry.
Secondly is the push for activists to put everything in a binary lens- you have to be either an unquestioning ally or a bigot with nothing in between. So anything pushing the "correct" message is automatically critic-proof since if you find any fault you're evil, sorry, "patently evil" according to the Rings of Power showrunners. Audiences can post their bad reviews largely immune to consequence, but not so the paid professionals who can risk their jobs by courting any kind of controversy. Just look at the guy who had his opinion pulled on Turning Red for simply saying "I'm not the target audience for this movie, and as a consequence I didn't care for it much".
I don't see this situation improving at all really going forward as these two trends aren't going away any time soon. You would probably need to have literally everybody stop paying to watch this stuff before the entertainment media admits they're going down the wrong path, but even though the profits are clearly starting to go down the entertainment media can't fault messaging since they're backed into a corner. If they give any statement that implies mass audiences are getting tired of messaging then they're on the side of evil. There's just no good off-ramp here... be prepared to enjoy decades of this stuff. We didn't get into this situation overnight and we won't get out overnight either.

I never knew that they had another sister. It was always The Olsen Twins when I was growing up. They were HUGE! A lot of child stars fade away after their show ends. Not them.
After Full House, they had other TV shows and movies. Little girls all over the world ate it up. They made bank! Then, you started hearing more troubling stories about them. Isn't one of them married to a Klitschko brother? The other one was with or somehow involved in Heath Ledger's death.
You're right. Elizabeth Olsen seems more grounded and normal. The first time I saw her was on, I think, Godzilla. I liked her on that.
