I'm only 2 minutes in and I've already fallen in love with this recipe. Not because it's so crazy and amazing, but because she said "you can just make it up and it will still work!" And that's my favorite way to cook.
lol why? its was funny. wtf is wrong with people like you, so damn quick to put people down. its more a reflection of your own happiness then anything. cheers. have a happy life if you can...
Void Lux so what? You can't have a cute personality or be beautiful on the inside if you don't fit in to the fucking limiting American standard of beauty? The fact that so many have a problem with my comment, which is more then skin deep, shows not only how very shallow many people are but how many people have been programmed and brainwashed to "what" beauty is. I thought what she said was funny and cool and simply was commenting on a glimpse of her character. I don't care what she looks like, she seems like a cool person, and to me that is what counts. Y'all need to look within yourselves and you prejudices and question what you been taught, in my opinion.
Oh please shut the fuck up. They didn't say anything about whether or not she was beautiful. You simply insinuate, like every other person who is offended in 2016, that they meant she was ugly, when they didn't say anything of the sort, they simply stated she looked like a man. All they said was that she looked like a man. She clearly cares about appearing more masculine. Stop trying to give everyone a life-changing TedTalk about what it means to be beautiful, their comment was accurate, and I'm sure to some degree it's the impression the chef is looking for.
***** You seem to be a nice person and I respect that. Some thoughts spring to mind: When I go for a lazy guac dinner or a light veg curry on one of these hot summer days, I'm eating vegan already, I don't need the whole proselytizing and preaching that comes with actual, no-nonsense vegans. I tried, my tolerance is all used up. Also, I used to have LEGO and Play-Doh as a kid, I don't need to play Awesomefoods Assemble! in the kitchen. Not hating on Chandra, she seems awesome. I just find the vegan 'movement' not palatable and the more you expand on the philosophy and lifestyle involved (for the heavily involved), it's just another route for a cult of schmucks to waste everybody's time. I don't like it. That's all.

I love videos like this - they show that clearly being vegan can be just as cheeky and indulgent as a more typical diet! I would probably tone down the oil a tiny bit but it's nice seeing vegan recipes that involve more than just plain bananas and chia seeds. I personally am always savoury > sweet so these types of videos are just the ultimate in food porn for me
I love her! She's sounds so down-to-earth. And I really appreciate that she lays out so many other options we can use for ingredients. Also, that last part was so adorable!
thanks for the response, had a beet based veggie burger out at a restaurant and it was pretty sweet/ odd tasting. Looking for a new recipe and this looks like it could be the one.
I'm a vegetarian (not vegan) and I have to say those patties look fantastic, far better than anything I've had myself. Most of the stuff we get over here is either fake meat, vegetable cutlet style patties, mushroom patties or in the best cases falafel patties, all of which I'm pretty bored of by now, these look like a great change of pace from what I can buy pre made, so I'm really quite excited to try these.
deep and meanful I haven't had the chance just yet, hoping to buy in the ingredients over the weekend and to try it sometime early this week, still very excited for it though!
Scott Guest These look like they should freeze well too, so you can probably make a bunch of patties, freeze em, and cook them as needed. I'm a filthy carnist, but these don't look bad. If I didn't loathe beets, I'd try them.
Vice viewers like to see themselves as intelligent and open minded people but as soon as the word 'vegan' pops up or there's a slightly unusual chef the comments section gets filled with idiotic and closed minded comments.
And, unfortunately, the stupidity grows when it is a women, as if woman needed more validation to be able to be different. But make no mistake, those attitudes are like fear.
Looks fantastic! I look forward to making this. I hope Munchies posts videos by Chef Gilbert on a regular basis. Her instructions are clear and thorough. Well done!
Sarah Harper old comment but i feel i should address your statement, "a carnivore is an animal that feeds on other animals" it isn't exclusive though, plus if you google it the informal definition is a person who isn't vegan, you were thinking omnivore but carnivore isn't wrong, in-fact carnivore has to be board because even things like tigers eat berries, grasses and fruit.
***** hahaha This video was fine it presented at least usable information that a certain diet would cook. What a nice lady :) I actually made some burgers tonight (with chickpeas, tofu and mushrooms) but they were way too wet (even after adding flour). Guess I'll make the rest into burgers and let them sit for tomorrow, great tip!
D4rkR4ge Im a chef and im offended. She kills her body with a burger thats oversalted - and fattened. oil on top of the bread? Simply just tells me that the bread is awfull, dry and flavorless. Dont see why she needed to give a shoutout to the bakery if the bread is that bad.
***** Are you people blind? she used like 3 pinches of salt to a batch of maybe 10+ burgers, mind you that the beans were uncanned, so they weren't in a rine to begin with. Who serves their burgerbuns untoasted and without oil? isn't bacongrease the standard way of doing it for a regular burger? Since when is a burger meant to be super healthy anyway. I thought it looked great and will try it next weekend. Thank you for the video!
To clarify what i meant since it seems ill get hated on for as long as this video exists; I've never seen my kitchenchef or souschef, in any restaurant or anywhere at all, oiling and salting the bread. The most ive seen done is a slight drizzle of oliveoil on a dry baguette or something similiar when talking about bread. The bread shouldn't need any help at all except for the toasting. The bread should be packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned and delicious to eat on its own. There is a reason that the most important thing in a restaurant is the complimentary bread you are served as the first thing - thats what awakens the guests hunger!
+Tetsu Hoshi ...your point becomes less effective when you factor how many years it takes to grow a cow to yield a single pound of meat. Let alone hormones, veterinary care, food, water, and space requirements. Just because you can walk in the store, buy something, then walk and cook it at home doesn't mean it's wholly simple. Plus the ethical issues tend to complicate things.
+ericascag If you use less oil, you're able to use less salt. The salt is there to take the edge off all the fatty taste of the oil, although tbh, with the exception of the bread and tomato, I don't think she added too much salt, considering that batch made like 4 or 5 patties
Aeon Hall indeed, it's so so sad. It's bad enough when you get trolls going through vegan/vegetarian youtube videos pulling off the same monotonous rubbish, and then to get them to throw in personal insults? it's just sad =_=
Beet burgers and bean burgers are definitely where it is at! I was tempted by overly processed soy burgers when I first went vegetarian but once you master making these type of burgers you will never go back to store bought. They're delicious and you know exactly what is in them. Even your non-vegetarian/vegan family and friends will find them tasty!
Wookie Glasswerks It's been 19 years since I was born, so I think you're right about it being dried up and rotten like these burgers. Also you used "your" instead of you, so I don't understand that second part.
If you don't like the vegan stuff, just use whatever you want. This is a totally okay recipe for a burger with a truffled cheese beer thing, meat patty, lettuce, pickled veggies, chilli mayonnaise, and garlic buns. I don't get the hate. If you don't like the video because of the way the chef looks or sounds, then I'm sorry you're an asshole.
I usually add like 1/2 cup of vital wheat gluten to help ensure that my veggie burgers dont fall apart. sweet recipe, i dont even like beets and i dig it.
Okay I really don't understand vegans you don't want to eat meat but you want your food to look like meat I don't get it just eat meat then I don't like to eat bugs you don't see me making my steaks look like bugs
Anthony B I believe it's to do with the industry practises, basically vegans see it as when you buy milk you're supporting the farmer that'll eventually sell the cow off to the butcher - so they avoid dairy.
Rory McCabe The conditions that the majority of dairy cows are kept in are pretty horrible to be fair, and overmilking causes them to produce too much and handicaps them. I probably sound preachy, I don't want to, but this is what I know about the vegan stance on dairy. Whether or not milking them is an issue, its the idea that the dairy industry is part of a larger system that's not very kind to animals.
I'm only 2 minutes in and I've already fallen in love with this recipe. Not because it's so crazy and amazing, but because she said "you can just make it up and it will still work!" And that's my favorite way to cook.

Lol honestly
You need all the salt and fats for a trash bland vagen burger like that

Vegan burgers are not burgers... Not even food
+Sameh Basri Vegan burgers are burgers. you are thinking of hamburgers which are a type of burger. You dumbass.
Sameh Basri You're right. Vegetables aren't food.

***** You mean you have never encountered sarcasm? You beast you.
I like her, and this recipe looks dope. Not a vegan but I'd be stoked to get served that burger. I'd take that over MacDonalds any day
Okay I really don't understand vegans you don't want to eat meat but you want your food to look like meat I don't get it just eat meat then I don't like to eat bugs you don't see me making my steaks look like bugs
Anthony B I believe it's to do with the industry practises, basically vegans see it as when you buy milk you're supporting the farmer that'll eventually sell the cow off to the butcher - so they avoid dairy.
Good point
Cows liked to be milked in fact if you don't milk a cow she gets stressed I don't know if over milking is a thing but they do like to be milked
Jon sam You don't "understand" or "get" something? How about you inform yourself? Read up, homie.
