    You need a 2x6 instead of a 2x4. We did everything else you suggested, though, and it turned out great! Thanks.

      @@LocalYokel01 it allows you to increase the footprint of the load, and double your lag bolts. Doing so, will make it even stronger of a setup.

    Excellent plan and solid!! Thank-you! My joist happen to be level, but I recommend if following plan, make sure bar will end up level before mounting to the joist. I ended up spending about $78, and additional $8 on Rust Oleum truck bed coating ( Excellent idea from another post! It feels great, and I am assuming it last forever. Takes a few days to be usable.) , and $8 on a long 12" 1/4" drill bit for pre-drilling the 5/8" x 5" lag screws into the 2x4 and joist. I did not have to buy a 2x4 though. I ended up using 1" vertical pipes, and 1" to 3/4" reducing elbows for a 3/4" horizontal bar. The whole structure including the 2x4 ended up hanging down about 29.5". It hangs down a lot more than 24" due to the elbows, and I only hand-tightened the horizontal bar to the vertical bars? I have 113.5" ceilings, and so the bottom of the bar is at 7 feet. ( height is personal preferences I have seen guidelines between 6'6", 7', 7'6", and 8'. Here is my parts list, in case it helps others: • 1 horizontal Bar: 48" 3/4" piping - HERE I DEVIATED FROM THE VIDEO WHICH CALLS FOR 1" HORIZONTAL BAR - see post note below (note a 1" purchased bar will have a larger outer diameter).
    • 2 elbows 1"x3/4" 90 degree elbow reducing elbow ( HERE AGAIN I DEVIATED FROM THE VIDEO WHICH calls for 1" elbows) • 2 vertical bars 24” long 1" piping for the vertical supports • 8 quantity of 5" lag screws x 5/16", non-galvanized are cheapest, and fine if putting bar up inside. (10 would have been better as there are 5 joist spanning the length of the 48” horizontal bar. My joist are standard length apart (16") • Drill bits for pre-drilling holes into 2x4 and joist: 1/4” 5” or longer drill bit, and 5/16 standard length drill bit. The 1/4” is for the entire length, and the 5/16 is for the 2x4 non-threaded section of the lag bolt that goes thru the 2x4. • Rust-oleum truck bed coating. • 1" floor flange - 2 • screws for the flanges: 1/4"-20x2-1/2" machine screws zinc (3 pack) - 3 bags
    Post note to above: Make sure you are happy with the diameter of the horizontal bar before doing the project. I unfortunately I was not liking the 3/4” horizontal pipe. So I took the complete assembly off the installed 2x4. I am back to original design if 1” pipe. A lot more work than the initial install!

    One question, one suggestion.
    Question: Do you have plans or designs for having a pullup bar coming from the ground that won't sway?
    Suggestion: I'm sure it will be fine but I would have put washers on the lag bolts before putting them through the wood so it will disperse the pressure over a larger area than just the head of the bolt. Just some extra security and peace of mind.

      Yes - I agree a 2x6 would be better and worth the cost. I used a 2x4 because I had one hanging around ( to keep cost down ). But my setup does give a little bit, but I still feel solid on the bar at least when just doing pull ups, and kip swings. I have not tried muscle ups yet.

    After 2 years, how has this been holding up? My concern would be from the torque/stress from having 2' long "supports". I'm looking a doing something like this but didn't know if I'm overthinking things or if there is considerable movement in the bar when performing the exercises or attaching a suspension trainer to it.

    Wouldn't it be preferable to use something like 1" or thicker plywood that is screwed to a joist directly above and also 16" for and aft? So a a piece of wood about 34" deep X the a little bigger than the width of your bar. I would think if you're kipping that is going to exert a tremendous amount of force front to back on the bar. I'd even want to use 45 degree angle supports at each end to further reinforce it front to back.

  • @Peter-kb8oe
    @Peter-kb8oe Год назад

    If y’all but 45 degree supports in front and behind the bar, you should be able to Kip on it securely. But currently no swinging support. A big lever essentially.

    Did you check if you might be attaching to an I joist? These are engineered beams and built like an I beam with mdf as the web. From what I keep seeing, any drilling into these is not allowed. Doesn't seem to matter how many attach points.

    Pretty sweet! - one suggestion- add lock washers and locknuts to the carriage bolt washer and it will never come loose. Otherwise it will eventually loosen over time.

    On the bolts coming the the backside in to your floor @#%#$% thing, How did you flush mount them on the back without the head sticking out and penetrating? Did you just counter sink them to the depth of the head?

      If they were carriage bolts they’ll sink into the wood as you tighten them.

    I didn't catch it I think what is the diameter of the Pipe you used? I was thinking of using a 1inch pipe, which is the internal diameter of the pipe since normally pull-up bars have 1 1/8 diameter.

    • @tayseermahdi
      @tayseermahdi 4 года назад +1

      You’ve got a right idea, I went 1.25” diameter not know that the measurement is the inside diameter. Pipe is about 1.6” diameter on the outside.
