Being 90s teenagers the idea that they'd channel their own super strength and training into moves they found in mall arcades is as wholesome as it is intuitive.
Yes
Taskmaster style
Makes it more sad we have to live in the real world.
@@Xannyphantom905Living in the real world is what MAKES all the other ones as cool and fun and amazing as they are.
@@HotaruZoku Nah it makes reality more lame cause we can't do any of that ourselves.
@@Xannyphantom905 Do we need to be able to do any of that? I think it'd just lead to a lot more deaths.
This game literally shows homage to fighting game and beat em up enthusiasts! I love it!
They somehow made an even more fun game after streets of rage 4
Missed a few. Ralph's upper isn't a shoryuken, it's Sol Badguy's Volcanic Viper. Speaking of, Casey also uses Sol's Heavy Slash in his baseball bat combo, he also does a pose+thrust with a hockeystick that is Haohmaru's forward+b, Casey's upper is also a reference to Haohmaru's Kogetsuzan.
April's walk cycle is from Cammy as well.
Edit: April's forward slap then elbow combo is from Street Fighter Alpha 3's Karin.
Do we have located who does the Greed Sever of Ky Kiste?
It's either Kogetsuzan or its Zero's Ryuenjin, depends on if it's 1 or 2 slashes.
I definitely would want to do a better video with your collaboration tbh. Had this idea, someone did it, but they definitely missed a lot
April's Forward + Attack is Cammy's fierce standing punch as well.
April's final strike in her four-hit combo is Cammy's as well.
It does show many references of fighting games but raph's suplex is actually modeled by the one he had on tournament fighters on the snes version. Cool video
I’m glad all the 1990s references were put in this game. The creators done right with TMNT
100%.
"Ho!!!".
Love Raph.
And everyone's jump kick is from the old arcade game
0:13 I am sorry, but as a fighting game elitist I must note that this isn't a Shoryu, but is in fact Sol's Volcanic Viper.
I'm pretty sure the follow up is Yang's dive kick as well
And Sol's Volcanic Viper is nothing but a variation of a Shoryuken, aniways...
Tbh, looks more like Luke's uppercut to me
or Luke’s 623
I am sorry, but as a fighting game elitist I must note that this isn't a Volcanic Viper, but is in fact Chipp's Beta Blade.
Also when Bebop appears on the TV screen at the end of the first level, his expression is just like Damnd from Final Fight
Even April's walking animation is similar to Cammy's.
Exactly.
Ikr
I guess April has been taking lessons from Chun-Li.
And I guess Raphael has been taking lessons from Liu Kang.😂
@@johnsantos507 wasn't it Mickey ?
@@jjstarrprod What?🤨
@@johnsantos507 it's Michaelangelo that got the Liu Kang Bicycle kick.
@@jjstarrprod Oh. You mean Mikey.
Raphael's German Suplex is a reference to his TMNT fighting game grab, which was the same thing
most of these are moves the turles have done in previous games, but the easter eggs in this game are non-stop
such a great game
@@starbreaker6441 absolutely
Man… Suplex and Double Lariats has been a thing before they were in Fighting Games… it’s based off another Beat’em up, Final Fight for Mike Haggar, 2 years before Zangief and SF2
The first one with Mike is actually Raph's special move in TMNT 3. It was released only a few months after SF2. Raph's Sai Cyclone is Leonardo's special move in TMNT 3 as well.
There's no Copyright Infringement around it, everything here is more than a Reference, this is a Tribute.
Exactly
It’s plagirism, any other game that would have done this would have been blasted on Twitter immediately, why is this ok?
@@CountOfMonteCristo_ Are you serious or just capping?
@@unityprecission3580 im serious, they arent creative enough to create new animations, but its ok apparently because its a "tribute." Just how if I create a game called fighting street with characters that look like street fighter characters and has similar moves, its just a tribute guys!
@@CountOfMonteCristo_ i mean... It's a beat em up, not a fighting game, even if the animations looks similar, the context is very different, and also, there are only so many ways to make cool kicks and punches
Raphael's uppercut is closer to Sol Badguy, than Ryu, if you really look.
exactly!!!!
Yep
It also looks like Vergil launcher
that, and his followup kick is Yun/Yang's from SF3
Rumor has it that Apirl picked up on a few scoops linked to Shadaloo and reported them to Interpol where she may have met and even trained with Chun-Li.
Excellent lore 😂
If they add Usagi Yojimbo, his moves shoud be mostly Baiken and Haomaru references
I still find it a little strange that cyclone move was given to raph, when it was originally leo's. The weapons also made more sense, as sais are for stabbing
I agree.
AND sais are a defense weapon too. They were originally used as farming tools, NOT WEAPONS.
1:55 The first part of Casey's attack here looks like Haohmaru's vertical slice attack from Samurai Shodown
Another reference I caught was Wingnut having an attack used by Storm Eagle in Megaman X1.
With some additional angles. I noticed that the first time I fought him. It was great!
Dude i been playing this game so much since release, cant stop playing.
Turtles Are Back Baby!
There's more that you missed.
Leo's taunt is one of Eagle's win poses
His dash attack is Urien's shoulder tackle
Raph's Laugh is the same pose as Sagat's
His slide is Blanka's crouching heavy punch.
Donny's third hit on his combo is Gambit's heavy punch from the Vs games
Casey's walk animation is Alex's from SF3
His run animation is Makoto's from BlazBlue
The final hit of his combo is Sol Badguy's forward heavy
I'm sure I missed several too.
Casey's moveset has some Haohmaru in it as well.
@RBxD1zzY got any suggestions about Don's taunt source?
Leo's dash attack is referencing Turtles in Time where the turtles had the same dash attack while running.
I think Raphael's uppercut looks more like Sol's Volcanic Viper from guilty gear.
Still cool to see all these put together tho, nice job
I don't think it was highlighted in this video, but April's normal walk is also a reference to Cammy from Street Fighter
And one of her normal attacks is another nod to Cammy
@@BryonYoungblood yeah she her long attack with her microphone which is like the end of Cammy's Spin Knuckle. Her combo itself starts with a Cammy LP then Karin Kanzuki's Palm Strike and Elbow Strike (sorry I don't remember what they are called off the top of my head) and ends with one of Cammy's kicks. Awesome stuff
I mean, there's only so many ways a character can kick, punch, uppercut, and twirl weapons, right?
Splinter: TATSU-MAKI-SENPUU-KYAKU!!!
Shredder is a homage to Wolfgang Krauser as well, I LOVE IT
That German suplex is far, far older than fighting games. XD Good catch on a lot of the other stuff, though.
I want again a street fighter pixel game it’s looks so good 😭💕
Lmao hearing Justin Wong in that gief clip 🤣
0:34 that feels a bit of a stretch. Thats basically a german suplex. You can connect it more to Chris Benoit then Zangief since he's using it to kill the enemy.
This game just gets better every second, holy fuck.
The turtles gang are avid gamers so many of their moves are clearly inspired by playing a lot of fighting games.
Raph is doing Sol's Volcanic Viper
The suplex resembles Vega's suplex, especially with the battle cry he gives.
There are more you missed. Casey’s uppercut is Zero’s from Mega Man X4. And at the end of Splinters fling slam, it’s the Bison head stomp animation. But more precisely, the ending stomp to his Nightmare Booster Ultra 1 in Street Fighter 4.
0:13 - actually looks more like Sol Badguy's Volcanic Viper move.
I love that even the fighting game references are a nod to the 90s
April's flying special pays tribute to SNK's staple Ranbu supers.
I saw Raph's uppercut being more similar to Sol Badguy's Volcanic Viper
The finishing blow to Mikey's bicycle kicks was similar to Terry Bogard's Crack Shot.
Searching references where literally there are just a Lot of standard moves
In the game, the first time you fight Bebop he rip off his shirt like Hulk Hogan.
Casey's dash attack is Birdie's headbutt from alpha.
Just realised jhones upper cut is similiar to samurai showdown main characters sword upper cut
Can't forget they normal punch too.
Thats a nod to every fighting game ever
0:35 Actually, Raphs grab could've been a nod to his TMNT TF grab from the SNES Version.
It’s cool to see DotEmu still pouring references to fighting games in their own titles, SoR4 was really cool like that
Leo’s sword spin charge move is a reference to Link in smash, and April’s knee attack may also be a reference to Cap. Falcon’s knee attack, also in smash.
All the juggling and combos are also a Capcom contribution to the Beat-em-up genre.
Great video and it details the animations back to the sources so astutely. Shredder’s Revenge is so much fun
so, seeing this, a new TMNT fighting game would be possible.
Street fighter 2 did not invent the flying kick or the flying knee. Also it didn't even invent the tornado kick (tatsumaki) which Double Dragon 3 had when it was released a year earlier than SF2.
The reason behind this:
The Ninja Turtles learned some moves from 10+ Japanese fighting arcade cabinets in their sewer hideout such as…
• *BlazBlue: Continuum Shift* (Makoto Nanaya)
• *Capcom Fighting Jam* (Alex, Yun Lee, Urien and Kenji)
• *Capcom vs. SNK 2* (Eagle)
• *Guilty Gear X* (Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske)
• *Marvel vs. Capcom* (Chun Li)
• *Marvel vs. Capcom 2* (Guile, Hayato Kanzaki and Omega Red)
• *Street Fighter III 3rd Strike* (Yang Lee)
• *Street Fighter Alpha 3* (Ryu, Edmond Honda, Blanka, Zangief, M. Bison, Cammy White, Akuma, Birdie, Guy, Rolento, Gen and Karin Kanzuki)
• *The King of Fighters 2003* (Billy Kane, Terry Bogard, Tizoc and Yuri Sakazaki)
• *The King of Fighters XIII* (Kim Kaphwan)
0:17 that looks like a volcanic viper for me
Raph’s uppercut isn’t a Shoryuken. It’s Sol Badguy’s Volcanic Viper from the Guilty Gear series. Raph also borrows Yun and Yang’s dice kick from SFIII.
I think Raph’s rising attack is more like Sol Badguy’s Volcanic Viper.
Shredder does M Bison’s Head Press Skull Diver
I think April’s dive kick took more inspiration from Robert Garcia’s climax move in KOFXIII
Most of these aren't references and just common martial arts techniques used in media
The dive kick was already on the NES TMNT game from 1990, if something Akuma took it from them.
A lot of these are such a hard reach though
I agree, only a few of them are direct references. Mostly in April's moveset, and a handful among the rest of them.
Shredder's Revenge is fucking dope.
Raphael's rising attack is actually Sol Badguy's Volcanic Viper from Guilty Gear.
Raphael Sai Cyclone looks like Krauser's special.
That uppercut actually looks more like Sol's from guilty gear
what a perfect! perfect! combination of Street Fighter and TMNT dreams do come true
Never played Tournament Fighters?
@@J_Lee712 That game's roster has their own movesets. These are straight lifted from different fighting games.
@@J_Lee712 yeah I've played Nes, Genesis and Super Nes versions of Tournament Fighters don't know what it is I just couldn't get into them but if this company made a version of it it would probably be really good
With all the references here, I almost expected someone to do a "Hadoken".
This is a common thing within this studio. The Scott Pilgrim game also had a lot of references in the movesets
Raphael has a Volcanic Viper (From Sol Badguy of Guilty Gear) and out there there's a reference to Ky Kiste (Also from Guilty Gear) teased by the own devs
Maybe Casey’s Rising uppercut move
Fun fact:
Leos idle stance resemble Wan-Fu from Samurai Spirits
Donnies stance mimics Billy Kane's from Real bout as well as his move here.
The raph shoryuken is from sol badguy
I find very disrispectful that Raphael dragon Punch looks More like sol badguy or cable's dp rather than a generic street fighter dp.
oh yeah donatello's billy kane reference also comes with the perfect circle dome of K9999/Krohnen which is also a reference to Tetsuo in Akira by a bit too much
I also kinda tought that when Ralph laughs it's a reference from M.Bison or the first Boss from Metal Slug that's what his laugh reminded me of
Made by those that forgot the TMNT had their own fighting game on 3 different consoles and each had a different story and roster.
Tournament Fighters anyone?
That fact that April literally does a Kikkoken.... LOL.
Even April's walk animation is from SF. it's cammys idle walk animation lol.
0:08 You forgot Terry Bogard's Crack Shoot!
Damn Nice finds and comparsion! I only recognized Raph has the *Shoryuken* 😁
I think Raphael's shoryuken is more similar to Sol Bad guys DP since both have blades
Donatello's move at 0:48 is a combination of Billy Kane's staff spin and Geese Howard's Raging Storm from the Fatal Fury movie.
Did they removed April's flying peach? (The R'Mika butt slam) I remember them showing it as April team attack in trailers but it got replaced by the Guile's hop kick in the final game.
Raph's flying attack looks a lot more like Sol's Volcanic Viper to me
After Ralph's uppercut. He does Yun and yang dive kick from 3rd strike.
even though they blatantly stole ALL of their flashy fighting styles it still put a smile on my face. thanks for painstaking collecting these examples, fantastic editing. well done.
The tornado spin is more of krauser's gigantic tornado.
0:07 that’s more like Sonya’s bicycle kick which always had a rising angled trajectory as opposed to Liu Kang’s which was just had horizontal movement.
That Bicycle kick from Mickey was gens kicks in sf4
Street Fighter fans be like “What, a backdrop? Nobody’s ever done that before Zangief!”
1.) you missed Raphiel's divekick also being Yun Divekick.
2.) Shout-outs to justin being int he Lariat footage.
Stretch Armstrong is looking at this and is saying "daaaaamn"
It's a little far fetched is the point
I have a Switch version of TMNT Shredder’s revenge, and in survival mode there are temporary playable bosses, such as the Shredder, I press the X button to use Shredder’s Super Move, but it doesn’t bring down the lightning strike, like… do I press and hold the X button to use Shredder’s super move, or do I press the X button and rotate the left analog stick to bring down Shredder’s lightning strike? Because I’ve been having trouble getting Shredder’s Super Move done right, and sometimes the lightning strike works when I pressing all random buttons rapidly after pressing X, and I still don’t how the Shredder’s super move works, because most playable characters as well as playable bosses other than shredder perform their super moves with just a single press of an X button and nothing else, so how the hell do I get Shredder’s Super Move done right after I press the X button?
I'm pretty sure April's knee thrust is a reference to Sarah Bryant from Virtua Fighter. That move is more often seen as her trademark.
I think April's dive kick is based on Cammy's Cannon Strike rather than Akuma's. Especially considering how many other abilities she's taken from Cammy, like her walk, 3rd hit of combo, and first hit of her combo (which is based on Cammy'sBack Knuckle).
0:14 is not volvanic viper ?
Raphs grab is his own grab from tmnt tournament fighters for the snes.
The game dev should make the skills has unique effect, like what sor4 did. In this tmnt, they all have very similar effect and just difference somewhat in animation. For example, they should at least make one of the char to be a grabber. That way, players get to experience different playing mechanic.
Splinters spinning move also looks like SOR3 Roo's spin attack
And raphs dive kick after dragon punch looks like 3S Yun or Yang
So all this time splinter has just been playing street fighter and then teaching the turtles these moves
They really love street fighter alpha hhmm?
The Justin wong right there man..
Disputes:
* Michelangelo's headbutt being a reference to Street Fighter. While it's possible, I'd be more inclined to say it references NES Tournament Fighters, where this was a move that Raphael had. In fairness, that in itself was likely a Honda reference, particularly as it was a charge move.
* His bicycle kick also seems to come more from Street Fighter's Gen, as it levitates upward and then finishes with a downward kick. I am further confused as you clearly recognized it and cited it with Splinter.
* Raphael's dive kick also happens to look similar to that of Rufus, but it's a common enough move that this is likely accidental.
* His spin super is just a common thing from TMNT games. it has nothing to do with Zangief.
* April's knee as a reference to Guile? That seems like a stretch. It's not unusual for characters to have a dashing knee attack in this genre.
* Splinter's rising attack, as previously mentioned, is cited as Gen, but as it's just one kick, I would think it's closer to Yang. Still, it's a generic enough move that I'm sure plenty of characters have similar moves.
* Casey's elbow drop is just a standard wrestling move.
Its likely these are all true homages, but to be fair theres absolutely no fighting move you would not find in some aracade fighting game. They literally have every existing move and many non existing too!
