What’s the Flash Gordon movie about?
Flash Gordon (Sam J. Jones from Maximum Force, Fist of Honor and Dead Sexy) is an American football hero who is returning to New York City after a long vacation with his beautiful girlfriend Dale Arden (Melody Anderson from Firewalker, The Boy in Blue and Intimate Betrayal). However, their plane is skyjacked and crashes into the laboratory of Russian scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov (Chaim Topol). Flash and Dale become unwilling passengers on-board Zarkov’s rocket ship as Zarkov sets a course for the planet Mongo. When they arrive on Mongo, Flash and his companions find the planet is under the rulership of the wicked Emperor Ming the Merciless (Max von Sydow from The Seventh Seal, The Exorcist and Minority Report). Ming is attacking Earth with natural disasters in order to destroy it. Flash decides to unite the kingdoms of Mongo and combine the forces of rivals Prince Barin (Timothy Dalton from Licence to Kill and The Tourist) and Prince Vultan (Brian Blessed from Star Wars and Robin Hood: The Rebellion) to save the human race.

This movie was amazing, in it's gloriously funky way, but it was elevated into immortality by the soundtrack from Queen. What a musical masterpiece.
This and "Highlander" are two of the greatest original movie soundtracks of all time, and they were done because Queen was bored and needed the money. Amazing.
Ming got the shaft.

I'll take a Flash sequel with extra cheese and pepperoni. When movies were gloriously fun and not serious and the fans just wanted to have fun and be entertained.

It reminds me of 1980 when I was 4 ,and my older brother used to sing the theme tune in falsetto.

My first funny feeling was to Ornella in this movie. I was 12 back then.
I love the moment when the lightning field comes down, and Ajax is RIGHT THERE. Everything about this movie is fantastic, even the cheese.

I think if we were to have a reboot movie make it deep and darker and at the climax of the film have a great fight showdown between flash and ming similar to He man and skeletor in masters of the universe.

Why dud Aura not inherit Mings Dynasty? She was the legitimate daughter, and as such, rightful heir.
If Aura married Prince Barin even though she's the Rightful Heir, There was probably an ordinance of Male Primogeniture for the Throne
All the domains of Mongo were led by "Princes," with the implication that if one of them could overthrow Ming, they would be the new ruler; hence Prince Vultan and Prince Barin. Ming's thought was that their greed for his crown would keep any two Princes from joining forces and opposing him; they would waste their energies fighting each other. Ming even offered Flash his own domain when they met in Sky City, but Flash refused him. Aura likely never had any real value to Ming except as a bargaining chip, and certainly not as a successor, given that we see him take in her torture as entertainment.

Such a stupid movie. I saw it in the theater when I was a kid. It was a terrible experience.
