DEFINITELY POP ON SOME HEADPHONES AND GET OUT THE SUBBB FOR THE CHORD BIT :D.
Soz about the over exposure at the start, i still dont know how to use a damn camera.
@LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER - could the size of this project been greatly reduced by using surface mounted components?
@@geoffbeyrent6950 definitely but why be understated for a project this big?? i mean sure it can be smaller but i wanted it to be this big.
Mad scientist, you are. Tomita is clapping like a little child on a sugar high.
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER no doubt, go big or go home... I was more wondering How much smaller this project could be reproduced, and since JLC PCB has surface mounting services now, I thought perhaps that question might be easily and rather cheaply answered.
You nutter 😉
“Oh, you’re a musician? What instrument do you play?”
“A wall of knobs.”

"what's that?"
"me son is playing with his knob he is, quite a weird one, you want to watch?"
This could make some IMMENSE sci-fi film music.
Exactly what I was thinking! Some of those chords were incredible.
I'm really hoping we get to hear more of this in the future.
You get this Blade Runner-eque feel to it.

Listening through all the chords created by these oscillators, here's what I came up with:
4:36 3 C major (flat)
4:50 4 F# major (sharp)
4:58 5 Angry C drone (flat)
5:29 6 B drone
6:14 ? Ab major sus2
6:21 ? B minor omit5
?:?? ? (missing)
5:05 10 Bb major (sharp)
5:13 11 Db fifths (sharp)
5:23 12 D minor (flat)
9:25 All The flat C drone and B drones merge together to create a distinct B root, and there seems to be a jumble at Db, D and Eb; however, a clear F and A emerge at the top of the chord. Thus, the best quantization I can offer of the combined jumble is Bø7 combined with B minor 7.
Not all the channels were clearly played individually with video showing the channel number, but I managed to get most of them.
-claps-
Seriously, why isn't this guy a hot shot in the Hollywood film music industry? Why doesn't he have a lifetime achievement award?
It's niche and not useful of entertaining
@@mbeecher9921You're not useful of entertaining.
4:20 Bread advert chord: F#maj
4:37 first chord: B half sharp maj (I'm just gonna call it B though)
4:55 (on fader 5): B-ish maj with a flattish 7 like in the overtone series, so not really dominant so much as a barbershop quartet of drones
5:03 (on fader 10) Kinda Bb maj, so when combined with fader 5 gives you a Bb/B sound, which to my ears sounds like a B7alt
5:10 (on fader 11) Kinda Dbmaj-ish, so when you have 10 and 11 up it sounds like a Bb7#9
5:22 (on fader 12) Sounds like a C#min-ish thing, but slightly sharp and wiggly. With 11 and 12 up you're hearing the push-pull of the major and minor third, so it's arguably a Db7#9 with them together? Maybe?
5:31 ( 7,11,12) Still feels like the same chord but more of the root added, maybe? Something cool.
5:47 Farts
5:52 Excited C major that forgot to wipe before flushing
5:55 C#min-ish thing again (fader 12?)
6:03 Feels like a Bbmaj again (fader 10?)
6:11 Whaaaat. Okay now it's like an Ab maj (add9, softly, with a tender kiss)
6:20 B (half flat) min
6:27 #Bread
6:36 Now I really want some bread.
...and so on.
9:23 all chords at once: the composite feeling is like a big F#major. Somehow the bread chord emerges as the root.
IT'S ALL BREAD CHORD?
...Always has been.
Side note: it makes total sense that this many oscillators would end up sounding kinda like strings. If you haven't dug into the writing of Iannis Xenakis, his music sounds a lot like this. He was playing with large ensembles and getting whole orchestras of string players to do glissando effects all at once, not for a chord but for the new emergent properties of sound that that would create. His scores look like architectural blueprints rather than sheet music... Cool stuff.
Also because not enough people are saying it: fucking BRAVO, DUDE. This is incredible.
Do u have perfect pitch?
..and BRAVO to you Rob Flax. I appreciate you lending your talent and time to the comments
Wow this is amazing im impressed

I really hope someone comes along and uses the kilodrone to make an OST for some sort of dystopian sci-fi epic.
It sounds pretty similar as the OST of an old videogame that was called "the dig".
I imagine this music used for biblically accurate angels or lovecratian theme movie
It sounds a bit like the music for Scorn. It's a bio(mechanical)-horror game that is supposed to come out around december 2022 or so.
if disney ever gets around to making another tron movie or show i’d want him to score it.
Maybe if there is another "Blade Runner" movie.
Man, I'd listen to a whole album of these chords. That was superb.

Churches come equipped with this instead of an organ, in some alternate reality.. xP
Could be a universe in Rick & Morty...
They used to use organs because they were new and impressive and glorious, which got people into the right awestruck mood - so yeah that ought to work just fine. :)
The Adeptus Mechanicus would love it.
This is a Church, a temple of the machine god.
Church of Saint Robert Moog
If Hollywood film makers don't start hiring you for soundtracks, I'll be amazed.

There's a music channel called Rick Beato. His son has perfect pitch. He can name every note in a big poly chord. It would REALLY interesting to see what he made out of this.
I have perfect pitch. It's hard to objectively quantize some of the sounds this MegaDrone is creating as they are not in tune, and thus "in between" notes.
As its doesn't have a tuning so to speak describing it in notes would be near impossible. You could find out the frequency and use that to work it out but I'd be highly surprised if any fell exactly on any note.
@@shalemloritsch9382 Need someone with perfect frequency
or just analyse plot spectrum in audacity
However much you questioned making this as you soldered every joint and toiled on it hour after hour, it was worth every moment.
This is how the universe sounds like
i hope so!
With all chords at once, I imagine that's what one hears when God emerges from his massive, solid gold spacetimeship. :)
I was thinking the same exact thing. And btw, the cleaner the signal, the more data is required to transfer it through the speaker. This means AI could theoretically speak in a language that uses words but rather contains the real message hidden within the data in the frequencies.
Yes man
I was thinking this yesterday, exactly the same because it is an immense sound, bigger than us.
I found a weird signal coming from the Terran System's third rock out.
Truly our electro genius! Listening on some good cans is phenomenal

this is the way they approached the making of the song "i'm not in love" by 10CC but they were using tapes with notes and chords recorded on each channel
The device you mention was called the Mellotron and quite a few prog bands used them
@@drd6416 in this case it was multiband tapes and they used the device called console and each fader was used as keys

With all the bad things going on in the world today, it's refreshing to see someone obtaining this level of joy that no-one could turn you inside out and smack that grin off your ugly mug. This is top class and more than ever expected from this project.
For all the hundreds or thousands of hours it took to create this thing, the end result is worth it. Just wish I could hear this live someday.
Leave him alone Mother. He's happy.
Finally Father can get some work done on the computer.
You just went beyond CS-80. Have a word with Vangelis, you may have to appear on the soundtrack to the next Bladerunner.
This is one of the few times that modular makes sense and not just bleepy bloopy sounds. The sound of the universe:)
That is the beginning of one mighty fine sounding musical instrunment! Once you tame and train that monster, we will be hearing some mighty fine music!

I don't think humanity is ready for that.
