    Also hymens as a tissue "sealing" the vagina is basically a myth fanned by creepy obsession with virginity... In Sweden, we generally call it the vaginal corona instead (slidkrans) to dispell these old-fashioned ideas, because the old Swedish name (mödomshinna) basically means virgin membrane which really underscores the myth that you can look at it to determine if someone's had sex or not. It's a piece of tissue near the vagina but except in rare cases it's not a membrane covering it. That this myth is alive and well in so many people's minds - and books - really just makes me sad.

    • @AlizzaLuna
      @AlizzaLuna 10 дней назад +32

      It’s great that there’s a new word for hymen in Swedish to try and dispel old fashioned and inaccurate notions! I am going to have to defend Brent Weeks here, though since he writes from the characters’s point of view and the characters are all living in a medieval fantasy world. It would be quite in line with the antiquated and bizarre way of thinking back then.

    • @goodpeople25
      @goodpeople25 9 дней назад +6

      @@armie4172 Just because bigoted nonsense exists doesn't mean there aren't people of all time periods who know it is BS. For examples of bigotry people like Lovecraft and Columbus were well documented to be described as incredibly racist and otherwise bigoted by people of those times and for nonsense heliocentrism and the earth being round were not nearly as "new" theories as popular culture would have you believe.
      Also clearly people still buy into it so it's hardly "old fashioned".

    • @chrisdanielsson5229
      @chrisdanielsson5229 9 дней назад +6

      @@armie4172 i do see where youre coming from, but i dont agree. If youre writing something upholding such a dangerous myth because "its the olden times", which for one, it's a fantasy book, so its really not, the least you should do is have another character dispell it somehow, because so many people believe in it still that youre just upholding the myth if you dont.

    I have to defend House of Leaves. It's a phenomenal, extremely mind twisting book. The author's sister is the singer Poe and she wrote a whole album to accompany it. The radio version of Hey Pretty even includes her brother reading an excerpt from the book. The entire book is a masterclass study in unreliable narrators and it 100% fits that Johnny Truant, the top layer character in a Russian doll of characters slowly going crazy, would have made a comparison this absurd.

    Hi! not a native speaker but currently in Mandarin 2, the name (14:26) would be pronounced Tsi-sheen Lee-ooh. Like saying the end of cats with a bit of an ee sound at the end, then a very clear sh- sound (that's what the X is in pinyin for Chinese!), then the surname is one syllable so it would be like a fast li-ooh. 2 things to note though: there aren't tones given, and tones in Chinese are v important as they can change the meaning of a word (like instead of the number four, you could be saying death. or instead of mother, you could be saying horse or slap). also it's possible the author speaks another dialect of Chinese than mandarin, and pronunciation differs a lot over dialects! the other v common dialect is Cantonese which I'm not v familiar with, but there's many, many others too :) hope this helps! you did a pretty good job tho, better than a substitute calling my classmate Yuxin (like you-sheen) "yucks-in" lmaooo

Had 38 inch breast measurement but a lot of that was a larger than usual rib cage. Only had a B cup. Then having kids rearranged it all. Don't regret the kids. BTW I can always tell someone who's family lived more than 3 generations in Texas. The men all end up with dead flat butts. I still don't know if this is reflective of the original settlers of Texas or the climate sculpting their bodies.

I was always told I had my dad's nose as a kid and it made me really self conscious, like "oh guess I have a man nose" and I hated it. I thought it was just me till I met my SIL, who, while also white, is from a completely different country and she also always hated being told she had her dad's nose.

    I must admit that I don't recall that passage at all - though it's been 2-3 years since I've read the books...
    Also - I'm still distracted by the 'tiny turtles bouncing in a hurricane'... :D

    I'm an average sized dude, but I highly recommend using a "youth" length stock for a defensive shotgun. Whether you cut down a wood one, get a fixed poly one or take some spacers out of your fancy magpul stock it makes a noticeable difference in performance. The Maverick 88 will take Mossberg 500/590 series stocks.

    There actually are Pac-Man games where he does bounce. He had a whole 3D platformer era where bouncing was a core part of his moveset, partly acting as an attack. So the comparison actually implies that those breats are bouncing so vigorously they could seriously hurt someone.

    11:37 this being on page 2 reminds me of 2 books of a still developing triolofy at a ren faire
    I asked the author that was in the stand if there was romance or anything like it in the book
    He said no
    Fucking first 3 pages already described a girls/womans boobs???
    Like it was a pov from a dude so it was like the characters perspective but in 2 years i have never picked up that book again
    The one time i will call a book a waste of money...

    Do you think the book about the sexy woman running from a murderer is supposed to be a parody of horror films? I don't see how else the editor wasn't like "hmm you sure that's what you wanna go with?" 😂

    INFO: Is "Rabbit Hunt" a parody of one of those slasher movies from the 80's? I could imagine the author being intentionally ridiculous as a joke about how sex is handled in 80's slasher movies.

    As a writer - it's more authors writing things that an editor should have caught - because that's what they are paid for.
    Then on the other hand an editor can't make an author change anything.
    I got sentences marked were I didn't get what's wrong. Most editors just mark and don't explain.

    I am from Australia, the Eucalyptus description of the environment sounds just like typical Aussie country summer - Shaaba "its the Apocalypse!!" I suppose it feels that way to someone in the UK. Plus, creepy white dudes often tell me (who is also white) that I have an African butt as a pickup line ... Oh goody creepy, sexist AND racist. Just the trifecta I want in a significant other.

    Scandal savage is a pretty cool character (best when Gail Simone was writing her). (IRL The daughter abandoning her billionaire father for lesbianism happened when Gigi Chao turned down her father’s desires (her father offered a 127million dollar bounty to any man that could marry her)

    I think "healthy in all the right places" means "healthy" as in a polite way to call someone heavyset but it's in the "right places" so it's voluptuous or "thicc" instead of fat

    I have one book by Brent Weeks. This is the guy that wrote "then they appeared in front of him. The perfect breasts." Or something like that. His little author bio in the book I have says that's "Brent Weeks has never owned a cat and never will." As if cats threaten his masculinity.

    Maybe the wrong places to look healthy is internally. Like sure my liver looks healthy but what does it matter, you'll never know it looks healthy unless you're the coroner at my autopsy😅

    Maybe "healthy in all the wrong places" means she has huge feet which makes shoe shopping difficult. I'm on the other end - my shoe size is a US 6 1/2 Extra Wide and the average US woman's show size is 8 narrow, so shopping for shoes in regular stores is next to impossible as they rarely carry below a size 7 and never carry wide widths. And I know my friends with larger feet, even if they're regular or narrow, have extreme difficulty finding shoes that fit as well. And if you want goth shoes, forget it. They only seem to come on whole sizes, never half, and never wide. Plus a lot are that plastic "vegan leather" junk that you have to replace after a year and fills landfills with non-biodegradable waste when real leather or at least canvas shoes last longer and biodegrade.
