I like it but I have some issues, you are lucky with your Dpad with regards to Hadoukens but I was not so lucky and I can forget dragon punches aswell. Outside of that the Dpad is perfect. I have no issues with the software side of things at all. Most of my gripes are with the build quality. I am going to reach out to Miyoo as I feel my review was a little harsh. But that's the price they pay when it comes to consistency as not everyone had my issues. The hinge is wild bro

Some people criticize Anbernic for coming out with so many devices, but what they're missing is that the engineers and designers at Anbernic are getting tons of experience designing handhelds, and it shows.

I'm only new to this retro handheld scene but it feels like we're spoiled for choice when it comes to getting the right model for you. I love a clamshell design and the Miyoo Flip looks like it does it pretty well (I'm in the mindset that having thumbsticks opens up the possibilities of games you can play, even if they don't always work the best). So I'd rather get this over the Anbernic RG35XX SP. I think it needs a bit of TLC in order to make the most of its potential, but that seems true for all of these handheld consoles.
Such a great device. It has replaced my RG355XSP as my everyday go to and the Trimui Brick. This device really packs a punch in terms of performamce. Has played every N64, PSP, and DC with little to no issues at all. The clicky hinge doesnt bother me at all.

@@CNP023I have been seeing issues with the transparent models only. Apparently the plastic they used is prone to cracking. But not to the point where any I’ve seen are rendered unusable.
@@pde2619 I have the transparent red and the original silver and so far have held up. Only issue im having with both units is the battery drain while powered off. They will be fully charged over night and the next day both devices are at 85%. That shouldnt be happening. I ordered new batteries for both so hopefully that takes care of it.
after getting a rp5 i really have no desire for another device but i've been waiting for this for so long now that a part of me still wants to pick one up. maybe once theres some price drops and community support develops i'll consider getting one again
For me, the only good console from Miyoo is the Mini Plus. I've tried the OG V4 and it felt too cramped albeit nostalgic. I had 3 Miyoo A30 (Grey, White/Black and Black) and I got rid of them, the amount of issues that thing has is unbeareble. So I'm keeping my White and Black MM+ with the amazing Onion OS. The MM+ is a tank of console, very solid and sturdy it's a durable console. Everything that came earlier such as the OG Mini with it's frailty, and later with A30 such as the heat, OS (Spruce got worse for me), battery and faceplate problems (falling off, ink fading), shows that Miyoo folks needs to think better their projects.
I wish we could get a DS sized Clamshell. The RP Flip did not do it for me unfortunately, it felt significantly cheaper and worse controls wise than the RP4 and Ayn Odin Mini (costs a lot more i know just my main comparison nowadays).
I wasn't a fan of the OS on the flip. That and the thumb sticks felt too tight. I was struggling on Sonic Adventure 2 to play it. When custom firmware comes out though, it'll probably replace my SP. The size difference is significant when you slide in your pocket.
What a disappointment, it looks and sounds cheaply made. Those 5 rubber bumpers around the screen also look horrendous. Props for the snes-colored buttons, but… that’s about it.
I managed to get an early order in and I can say my unit was total junk from a build perspective. I got the white unit and the plastic was super cheap looking and feeling. Also, the hinge sounded so bad when you would open and close it, like a broken flip phone. That and when I closed it, a plastic scheme would kinda open up and close. It made a pretty bad sound. I ended up returning it
Yes, always felt like that thing would break every time I opened it. Then... it eventually did. The original 3DS had the best hinge I've ever used in a console, that thing was smooth as silk. The XL was so much cheaper (literally, the original 3DS was quite overpriced at launch).
I held out on buying an sp for this… If they fix that hinge and release a few more colors maybe…. I’m pretty disappointed. The miyoo mini seemed to have had a ton of thought put into the design, but this seemingly was simultaneous rushed, but also took too long lol may have to finally pick up the sp…
My black Flip turned up a few days ago and the hinge is just as bad as yours. I've heard people say it becomes less noisy over time, but it's still very concerning that they've had a year more than Anbernic to work on this and the hinge - which is a key selling point - is so poor.
@@retrohandhelds that raises questions over the devices durability however. The noise is caused by plastic touching plastic, the only way the noise will lessen is if the plastic wears away after repeated movement.
I have to say tho that is my only complaint. For a budget device this thing is comfortable to use and powerful enough to emulate most N64 and Dreamcast games. Once we get some custom firmware like OnionOS the Miyoo Flip will be a beast.
I'll stick with the SP by Anbernic. Don't need analogue sticks on a handheld of that form factor and design. Also the Dpad looks skinny and horrendous. No thanks.

12:36 i hate when people complain. Not everyone is a fanatic who can sit on for hours searching for roms and other files and arrange. Most of the people buy it for plug and play reasons. Not everyone is tinkering with these
For the convenience factor it's amazing to have these, agreed, but I wanted to also acknowledge they're including a current game that is still being sold. It can get dicey. I happen to already own these games on steam, so having them ready to play like this is nice.
This review is right on time. That's why everyone says Stubbs is the Japanese train of reviewers. He puts the chic in shinkansen. Unfortunately, MiYoo is way late to the station with this flippy Flip Boy. It's cool; but, in a world where everyone who cares already has an XX-SP, what's the point? I wish my SP had sticks; but, outside of the first few days I had it when I was experimenting with seeing what an XX could do, I find myself using it primarily for GBA, Genesis, SNES, TG16... Basically for old systems that never had sticks to begin with. I've got other systems with more power and more upscaling features for PS1 and above. That's not enough to make me want to pay my own money to "upgrade". And the Flip isn't exactly an upgrade. It has sticks and a bit more power, true; but, it has an inferior screen (green tint? yuck!), inferior hinge, inferior speaker, and inferior memory card placement. They had a whole year to benchmark the XX-SP and this was the best MiYoo could do.
Once you showed me the pirated port games we're running on this device, I immediately went and placed an order. Thank you for spreading the word on this fact
Portmaster is available in most of these handhelds though! Not saying you did a bad purchase but it would have been worth researching more, as that is not a unique feature.

I’d rather have a clicky hinge than a defective one like the 35xxsp which has been experiencing widespread cracking issues.

Looking forward to seeing Gamma's efforts after his beta on the Flip has been shown off on his RUclips. It will make this device sing in comparison.

I buy lots of handhelds. I mainly play retro stuff so don't need high end handheld but this one is too expensive for what it does.
