Thank you! This was helpful on my 2006 Focus ZX3. Made it clear I just needed to go ahead and remove the motor mount and jack the engine up and down to gain better access, and not screw around trying to work around it.

Awesome! Very happy this helped. I can't tell you how many times I tried to work around the mount and then ended up just taking it out. On the side of the road this may not be the best solution, but in the comfort of a garage this makes the repair so much easier.
I'm glad that the zetec and duratec engines are similar enough for this to have helped.

U straight up have to jack up the engine for the idler pulley, it's dumb

It is a super tight fit with that long idler pulley bolt. Does make working on it difficult if you aren't able to adjust the engine up and down.

mk1 focus has the worst fucking belt tensioner ever. unreasonable amount of effort required

It is a lot of effort for a simple repair. I'm not sure if it's the worse out there, but it's not the easiest for sure lol.
