DYU Cycles were kind enough to send me their FF500 fat tyre folding step thru e-bike from their mountain biking range to try. With a holiday booked on the Al-Fayed's 39,000 acre Balnagown Estate in North East Scotland this seemed an ideal place to try it. The estate comes with free use of bikes, boats, fishing, paddle boarding and leisure centre all part of the deal. It was made all the easier and fun running around on my new DYU FF500 fat tyre e-bike. I've called it 'Harley' as it's so laid back and comfortable on all terrains. It's like the Harley Davidson Electra Glide of e-bikes!

It's a blast Andy and ideal for off road access on the trails and hills. Legally it seems like a real grey area though. I'm awaiting my first stop by the boys in blue :-)

I could be wrong but I think that throttles which work without peddling above 6kph are technically illegal in the uk. Good solid bike apart from that.
Yes I've been reading up on the legalities and its fairly confused and a grey area. It's a great off road access tool for the hills and bike packing for sure. A
@@AndrewParkOutdoorsalright mate - I'd say the law is pretty clear - not wanting to sound contrary by the way.
- throttle capable of propulsion beyond 4mph = illegal
- motor over 250w = illegal
- Electric propulsion over 15.5mph = illegal
It's that simple. Anything beyond that has to be used on private land, not just off road - actual private land.
It's a shame as our laws are very restrictive and way behind those in the US which allows Class 1 - 3 ebikes.
Great fun if you have the land to use them and I hope our laws might get reviewed some day.

I might just try that but it's more responsive when you pedal ( it might be set like that for legal reasons ) ?!

Looks like a decent bike Andrew. What are your thoughts on the Kospet Tank 3 Ultra? Can you download a gpx route file to it then follow it?
I'm still getting to grips with it but love the build, screen quality and responsiveness of the touch screen, Although it will record your track etc I can only see it on maps so far when using the phone app so it may not be able to support maps on the watch itself which is a shame. A
@@AndrewParkOutdoors Thanks Andrew, i've got the Amazfit TRex 2 which is pretty good and has got gpx file functionality so was curious if this one did. Can't fault the price for the Kospet and it looks good too.
Illegal to use on the road or cycle paths and other public areas in the UK.
Shouldn't really be promoting these things, as most people won't have access to private land which is the only place that they can be used.
Yes i'm reading up on the legalities of this. Bit of a grey area so far but for off road excursions, hill access bike packing etc I think it's a useful tool. A
