Gently heating the flange with a hair drier prior to fitting makes it more flexible and also increases the adhesion. Worth a try; costs nothing and may help! Take care and stay safe

Hi there! I'm a Cystic Fibrosis patient, and I enjoy learning about what other people live with and the ways they take care of themselves. Thanks for showing this process! Question- how often do you do this process? Thanks! Mary
The Frey Life oh my goodness! I love your videos - spent my weekend watching your vlogs to learn about CF! Thank you for the comment - I typically do this every 3-4 days :)
@@LetsTalkIBD hey quick question for you. Do the flange parts have the potential to hurt the stoma? I noticed yours was very tight. My stoma nurse recently suggestion 1/8 inc of space between the stoma and flange that could then be filled in with paste
Thank You. We are navigating life with a new Colostomy for my spouse. I had thought the ostomy rings would help. It was a disaster. That looks clean quick and easy. Thanks for sharing. How often do you have to change your bag? I'm an ostomy virgin and expect to have one sometime this month.
Did you know that you can order the Hollister wafers pre-cut to 1 inch? I get them that way they are perfect and you do not have to hassle cutting them yourself.
I have been watching you a long time now. I am so happy that you finished nursing school. It is a hard college degree to get and you did it with all your health issues!
Hi Maggie, when you apply the wafer at 6:08, your hole matches your stoma very closely (no gap between the wafer and stoma). It was a tight squeeze for Leroy. :-) I've heard the "1/8 inch rule", which says to cut a hole that leaves a 1/8 inch gap around the stoma, but I've also heard not to leave any exposed skin. I've had great success recently by _not_ leaving a gap. I can even eliminate barrier rings and still go 4 days between changes. I was worried about blockages, but no problems so far. Any thoughts on this? If you always cut your hole like that, I'll bet you don't even need paste. The Hollister wafers swell up nicely around the stoma, which creates a built-in barrier ring. Have you tried the wafer alone, with no paste? BTW, I've been using the Hollister 11203 wafer, which is the "CeraPlus" version of the 14603 (I use them both).
Hi Maggie, at 4:44 you put on the hydrocortisone cream. I've heard of a side effect of prolonged application of topical corticosteroids called "steroid atrophy", or corticosteroid-induced dermal atrophy. Apparently, those creams can permanently damage the skin, which would be very bad around the stoma. Have you looked into that?
I like the idea of being able to just throw a new bag on but I'm sure the NHS (UK) would probably have something to say about me throwing away bags 4-5 times a day haha. I use a combination of Coloplast 2 piece and 1 piece bags. Personally, I'm a little uncertain about any 2 piece appliances other than the Coloplast ones because they have the additional locking mechanism which gives me a lot of peace of mind. The "Tupperware" style ones would probably make me anxious about it popping off. I'm sure it's not nearly as bad as I think but paranoia is a bitch haha.
I'm here in the U.S. and I order a product called Colomajic pouch liners from a company in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. These liners are stuffed into the pouches and form a little cuff-like thing around the locking mechanism. When you change your pouch, you take off the pouch, pull out the pouch liner and then you can re-line the pouch with a new liner, put it back on and away you go. I use Hollister products and the Colomajic liners work very, very well for me. Have been using them for almost 3 years and they save me MEGA BUCKS!!! Go to Colomajic's website (colomajic.com) and ask for samples. Perhaps they have a vendor in the U.K. - I don't know. But I do think it merits checking out. (By the way, my Hollister pouches never "pop off". I do wear a belt for added insurance, but have never, ever had a pouch just "pop off". Hope this helps you, Lucas. Best wishes!!!

Hi hope your feeling better soon and congratulations on your engagement. Have you tried the new holister pouches they have hydrogen in them to help people with sensitive skin.
Why not use the adapt stoma powder? It also prevents that disgusting stickiness and sliminess that you get when the stool has been laying on the skin just a little bit too long. That plus the paste (VERY thin application, not like putty or caulk as demonstrated here),
just seen this old video.. the hole you cut looks quite tight when your pushing over your stoma.. a bit too snug.. was that a perfect fit as iv got a stoma & my hole size is not as snug on my stoma as yours.. ty x
Did you say your Hollister bags came with the garbage bags or did you have to order them separately? So far my wafers and bags never came with them. I do not use the same size as you, but it seems weird that my size (2 3/4") would not come with them too. I've tried 2 types, both drainable and one had Velcro and the one I stuck with is clear with a clip. I know I'm a little late but congratulations! That is one beautiful ring :)
I noticed you use a filtered bag. I find that although they are good for expelling gas, they cause a vacuum, which then causes pancaking and leaking through the flange. I do use liquid lubricant but it doesn't seem to help. Hollister doesn't provide stickers like Coloplast. Do you have any suggestions? I have an ostomy. thank you, Rosemary
This may be a stupid question but can you shower normally without a bag covering your stoma? I'm sure you can't have certain soaps that would irritate it touch it at all?
SOAP AND WATER WILL NOT HURT THE STOMA. MAKE SURE THAT YOU RINSE OFF GOOD. AND BE MINDFUL THAT OUTPUT SOMETIMES COMES OUT OF YOUR STOMA WHILE YOU ARE IN THE SHOWER.
I’m a new stoma patient and I’m in rehab right now, do you have to cover the stoma when you shower.? If you don’t do you wash the stoma directly with soap and water? Congratulations on your engagement and thank you for doing this video.
I’m new as well, three weeks post op and now loving life. I do not cover my stoma in the shower (feels glorious), and try to do my bag change to coincide with my showers. I take a few minutes to let my body get used to the water temperature (I like hot showers), and keep the water indirect at this point. Then I let the water run directly on and around the stoma (named Seamus). No worries, soap him up - just don’t use too hot water, and be gentle. Cheers!
How do you deal with your bag swelling in the heat, in the car. I find after coming out from cool stores then into my vehicle I find it swells too much.
mandi4886 id probably say that most people who have been ill enough to now need an ostomy would probably also mean that their illness has made them infertile x

Have you tried Colomajic pouch liners to cut down on the number of pouches you use? I've used them in my Hollister closed pouches for nigh onto 3 years and have been very pleased with them. They enable me to use the same pouches over and over again which cuts my pouch cost tremendously. They will send you samples to try. Also, have you tried the new Cera-Plus barriers from Hollister? Are you still doing this ? One piece so much easier and less hassle. I've only been doing this for two years now so I'm a beginner but there are much easier ways. Please get in touch.
You and I both really like the closed Hollister pouches. To increase the number of pouches I get each month (60), I use Attiva liners from Parthenon out of Utah. When I open a new box of pouches, I line them right away, so they're ready to go. Using the liners allows me to use each pouch several times (usually at least 5 or 6 times) before I finally use the pouch for the last time without a liner. The cost of pouches is GREATLY reduced when you use the liners and who doesn't like having more money to spend? When a lined pouch needs to be changed, I pop off the pouch, pull out the liner and drop it into the toilet, flush, and away it goes. I always leave the pouch open so the condensation inside will dry and then every other evening or so, while I watch TV, I re-line the pouches and get them ready to go again. Think about it and maybe give it a whirl. I've been using the liners for about 4 years (started with Colo-Majic and switched to the Attiva liners because of price) and so far, I've been extremely satisfied with the way my system works. Congratulations on the engagement! (Of course, by now, you're probably living happily ever after!!!! God bless you and your husband!!!!)
I found if you put the convatec stomahesive tube in some hot water for a few seconds it is much easier to squeeze out onto the flange.

God bless you . You look great and Your happiness is a joy

May be getting a bag kinda freaked out
Dios los Bendiga siempre, saludos desde los Angeles.
You must go through so many bags a day.
Please watch a more recent video - I explain how I use these and don't throw them away
Can i take a bath with my bag off please help and answer me?
You can! But depending on what kind of stoma you have, you may have some output into the bath water.
Definitely! I usually do that when I know my system is empty 😊
Did I hear you right, you shower with the bag off and then install the bag?
It is likely I will be having a total proctocolectomy. Biologics help my disease but they’re not getting me into remission anymore.
Doesn't it hurt ?
Laney Lydon No. Stoma does not hurt.
