I’m sure that teacher lives every day thinking of everything she should have done differently. But we have 2020 hindsight. She told him not to go with the boy, but who thinks a 14 year old is a murderer, and she probably at the time thought that would persuade him not to go and that would be enough. Maybe they all got separated in the fire alarm. Kids filing out everywhere and teachers who have jobs to do in a practise fire alarm. I hate people piling on innocent people in stories for not doing everything perfectly without the benefit of hindsight.

That’s the main problem…bullying is at an all time high now because the kids are too scared to tell anyone or end up doing a follow through…even the school does nothing, all they do is ‘try to keep them separated’ or ‘don’t have them work together’
How can you if everyone else is with their peers & the teacher isn’t available to help you with the project…I can say being bullied was taken seriously when I was in school…it’s sad that schools don’t really care & take it as ‘it’s part of being a teen & growing up’ 🤦‍♀️

Bullying is not new. There are levels to it as well. I do think some kids are more likely to do aggressive things in response to it where others deal with it go thru the emotions of it and move on until it occurs again. Most do not end up being murderers…

His Mum changed his Schools in the hope things would get better for him but they didn't. 4 different Schools and the bullying got worse for him. She took him out of School in Year 8. He is isolated in a small town and his only friends are via the internet which he made over the years playing games online. It's soul destroying knowing that others are responsible for the fear it created within him to venture out in his own town. I was bullied so hard in middle school, by my peers-and some of my family-to the point that I had sworn off having kids into my twenties because I feared they may look like me and I would watch them go through what I did. I struggle with my self-esteem still, but I’m trying to learn to appreciate my face and even my heritage. But I have anxiety on silly things… my husband tried to get me to dance with him, but that induced a panic attack. I still shy away from most things feminine. My agoraphobia is still only managed through medication, unfortunately.

Find your worth, it's important and to love yourself. Your husband saw the beauty in you so you need to acknowledge that. Yeah it definitely is unsettling . A lot of people in the u.k. Do not like this and really hate it. Worse part is the victim’s family are never aware they been released with new names and locations. I learned about this many years ago from a case from the U.K back in the early to mid 90s. Two boys 11 and 10 took a 3 year old boy from the mall and took him to a train track and brutally killed him. One of the killer, was cold, has no empathy, literally thought it was fun. Those boys were released, I believe early 2000 with new names and location. The one who thought it was fun , has been in trouble since he got out several times. I believe it was something similar in nature of what he was charged with. Its appalling. If I’m not mistaken he was given another identity again.

When nothing was getting better I started telling my daughter you’re gonna have to fight back, if you feel threatened and you latch onto her and don’t let go. Granted I didn’t want that to happen but what else could we have done? The day she beat her bully up and the school called to let me know she would not be suspended it all stopped. Never had anyone ever bother her again. Of course she cried she never wanted to hit anyone but sometimes you have too.

I grew up in a dysfunctional home in that my dad moved us all around the country so much so that I never felt I belonged anywhere. Being the new kid in school so many times I couldn't count, other kids did bully me because I was so different. However, it's quite a stigma among children (especially in my generation) that we didn't want to be a tattle tale by telling on the kids for their bullying. That would've made things very much worse. For this reason, I believe there's quite an element there that we simply do not tell on our peers and become a tattle tale.

He was probably smaller than the other kids due to CF also, making him an easier target for this monster. Now we have medication that helps many CF patients and he may have been able to take that and improve both his quality of life and extended the life expectancy closer to normal. I'm not sure. Because even when raised in the same family and born with the same genetics, and surely with (slightly) different personalities, children experience different things in life. One could have gotten an understanding teacher and the other one didn't. One could have been a*sed slightly worse than the other. You never know what the tipping point is. Even in hindsight it can be difficult to lay the finger on it

I just can't understand this. When i was in middle school, so 13, i used to go to the elementary school and read with the younger kids. I felt pride in helping younger kids learn something. I have two boys 14 and 15. They are always really nice to younger children. They are too old to play with their peers (they "hang" out now) so have kind of grown out of that, but they will play with the younger kids just to make them feel accepted. They will even play barbies with their little sister, even though they arent into barbies, but they do it just so she doesn't feel lonely. They play with my neighbors 2 year old nephew just to give him socialization (theres no kids that young in our neighborhood). They will talk to and listen to younger kids and try to mentor younger kids and teach them. They have friends their own age that they hangout with all the time, but they are always very nice to the younger kids when they are around them. I just cant wrap my head around a 14 yo doing this to a younger child. At that age, boys should be maturing and taking on more of that mentoring role.

The theme that lacked a deeper look was: Bullying. I remeber my youth, and this theme in all our youths. Then also the social aspect that "school" and school dynamics never really end. Socialisations. Way back in late 2000's there was a focus on bullying and stopping this.... guess it never did. I can only point to *the movie Ben X, in regards to education on bullying,* and making people stop and think twice. Ben X is a 2007 Belgian-Dutch psychological thriller film based on the novel Nothing Was All He Said (Dutch: Niets Was Alles Wat Hij Zei) by the film's director Nic Balthazar. It stars Greg Timmermans as a teenager with Asperger syndrome who finds solace in the MMORPG ArchLord as a result of severe bullying. The film's title is a reference to the leet version of the Dutch phrase "(ik) ben niks", meaning "(I) am nothing". The novel itself was inspired by the true story of a boy with autism who committed suicide because of bullying.
    *Bullying kills.*
And I believed we had learned to look out for this red flag and deal with it. Professionals in the fields of child care, and health.
There is a twist in the movie, a plot twist, which I can't give away.... but more or less this movie has a happy ending compared to the novel.
And like this there are many more movies, and novels that deal with the topic of bullying and why it is bad.
Fun fact, most bullying happens with people "just being funny".... aka making fun of .... just for fun and laughs, and not "to hurt" they say.

Sadly, bullying is not restricted to children in schools. There is a great deal of adult on adult bullying and adult on child bullying. Occasionally even children on adult. There is something about schools that appears to, if not encourage or condone bullying, makes it fairly easy to perpetrate.

I agree with that last part, but my son and several other kids just don’t react in the way that typical kids react. Instead of laughing and letting it go, they protest and make a big deal of it. And this reaction is what the bullies think is funny, so they keep doing whatever it was. It is truly heartbreaking! 💔

Moral disengagement is a cognitive process that allows individuals to behave unethically while bypassing their internal moral standards. It involves eight specific mechanisms that disconnect moral standards from actions:
      1. Moral justification: Rationalizing unethical behavior by framing it as morally acceptable.
      2. Euphemistic labeling: Using mild language to mask the true nature of actions (e.g., calling theft “borrowing”).
      3. Advantageous comparison: Comparing one’s actions to worse behaviors to minimize guilt.
      4. Displacement of responsibility: Blaming external factors or authority figures for one’s actions.
      5. Diffusion of responsibility: Sharing responsibility with others, reducing personal culpability.
      6. Distortion of consequences: Downplaying the harm caused by unethical actions.
      7. Dehumanization: Viewing victims as less than human, making harm easier to inflict.
      8. Attribution of blame: Blaming victims for their own suffering.
These mechanisms allow individuals to act unethically without feeling distress, maintaining a positive self-image. To prevent moral disengagement, awareness and ethical reflection are crucial.

So, it is hard to get a true all factual interpretation of someone. I can't believe that bullying is still a problem in our schools. Where in the heck do we draw the line and state this is enough! Where is the school staff? The parents to help the child? We, adults have to stand up for the kids that are helpless in defending themselves emotionally and physically. There must be more strict consequences when bullying is present. I can't believe not one classmate couldn't stand up for another. I was and still am the one that sticks up for people, children too no matter where I am or who it is. Where is the help that the kid needed? Thank you and God Bless!

It still goes on. My son went from private school to public school & got bullied, took him out & put back in same private school. & his 2 previous friends turned against him, he got pushed down by a former friend, ruined new uniform pant , scuffed up shoes badly, he decided to fight back & he got punished, but not the other kid. Teacher said to him, in front of whole class "We didn't have any trouble until you came back." He was the smallest child in his class. I spoke with the teacher, pulled him out, we homeschooled him for 5 years, until he wanted to go to high school. When we pulled him out the principal threatened us with a meeting & jail time if we didn't show up in her office on a certain day. I got a lawyer who called her when zi was in his office & told her how wrong she was & wanted an apology letter in the mail to us or else. We got the letter in a couple of days.

His academic skills are very good so he is in all regular or honors classes, but his social skills are a few years behind. We are military, so we move every few years. This last year starting a new school for middle school was awful! He has made a few friends, but the kids who pick on him don’t stop. Then my son gets in trouble because his reactions are loud and over dramatic. The bullies are quiet and don’t get caught. I just can’t understand why none of the teachers seem to notice this.

But now he was about to be outed as gay to them, and everyone in the school was going to hate and mock him even more. I'm sure there was a lot of pent up anger in Michael from his upbringing and years of bullying. Joe rejecting him and telling him that he was going to tell his friends that Michael was gay was the last straw. The humiliation of it all caused Michael to snap. Poor little Joe. For a show that focusses on children not being born "evil", it mostly stuck to that narration and focussed mostly on the victim. Which is also a very sad aspect. But 2 lives got wasted. "Deranged teen" included. The word that for me was missing was: REPRESSION in this and as an explanation for Michael Hamer's behavior. With the anti-social personality disorder, there are 2 labels mentioned specifically as well. But neither get fleshed out. It's not like Michael can no longer be evaluated, or re-evaluated. Autism & Psychopathy. We don't dig into the bullying he suffered, nore the bullying he did. It did sound like him getting bullied came first, before he would have bullied. We mention it, but then at the same time gloss over it: Not all people bullied turn into "killers", but most killers have been bullied. I guess society always needs a monster to point at, and not admit the biggest monster is faced in the mirror. The broken society. Our socializations and environmental exposures.

I leave all the "oh but he's had a rough life,oh but he doesn't have a dad, oh but his mom has cancer.." to other people. I couldn't care less if he was just a head on a plate. I am totally disgusted of them. I said horrible things to any child who tried to bully my kids, I put my kids in Karate three times a week to be absolutely sure that they could defend themself if needed. I told my kids NEVER to start a fight but to hit back much harder ONCE, if a bully hit them. It worked. My boys, especially the youngest got a reputation of "don't hit him he hits back REALLY hard". I also told my kids I'll deal with any concequences if they hit much too hard, but no parents ever contacted me so I guess every bully survived. My kids have much friends now as adults and not ONE of them is any violent or continued with karate as adults. I'd do EXACTLY the same over again, and will pay karate lessons for my grandkids. Choose someone else to bully, not my family.

Literally nothing more was said about his mother than she worked and they didn't get along. There's a huge hole there. She was his primary "caretaker".

Im sure he could'nt taken it anymore, so he started speaking out and giving it back. I just do not like how that girl sitting on the couch said he brought that negative attention to himself. This boy may have done something horribly wrong, but it seems he has been suffering for a long time, and it was over looked.

I have always enjoyed watching Jo Frost as the Super Nanny. Watching this showed me a totally different side of Jo. Her journalistic side showed great emotion and compassion for everyone involved in this case.

Who wasnt bullied? I can tell you that an absent father is better than a bullying one. Being bullied at home and at school leaves you no where to go.

At any point someone could've helped the " strange" kid and maybe this wouldn't have happened but nope ppl are cruel....I love how ppl witness others getting bullied and yet they continue to be like oh why did they snap ummm bcuz bullying changes you its a form of abuse!!!!!!

He was a psychopath. Nothing more to it. It wasn't the bullying. It wasn't the parental abandonment. It was desire turned up to eleven and he didn't know how to handle romantic rejection. If a boy who had been rejected by his peers, why would he react in such a way to a romantic rejection if he wasn't a psychopath? Yes, everyone around him failed to ensure a safe environment, however he still chose to end a life.
Most people who are bullied, neglected and abandoned don't unalive someone. Soooo... Has to be something turned on his brain. Psychopathy.

I still dont agree with the outcome of Michael's sentence , he had ut all planned that's why he was so focused on Jo. Hes out of prison today in hes 30's he need to be watched closely. Rip jo you'll never be forgotten lad
