    Much respect for your high level of mechanical skill. It was a thrill for me to watch the engine start and run! To all who watched this, a safety warning: NEVER, EVER put your hand under a spray nozzle or unit injector when pop testing or checking the spray pattern. The fuel comes out under extremely high pressure and can easily penetrate your skin. Blood poisoning will be the result. PLEASE head this warning from an old marine diesel engineer with + 35 years experience.

    The amount of planning this takes is insane. Love how he just welds the pump bracket to the cam cover and bolts the pump shaft on there so casually. Must've taken some time behind the scenes to figure out the timing and position. It looks so "easy". Absolutely brilliant work, yet again👍🏻👍🏻

    The process of converting to diesel injected fuel from gasoline is not impossible but it needs to have more to think the quality of materials or metals designed for it like piston crown, piston rings to make it running last for longer time. • @court2379
      @court2379 2 года назад +18

      It would probably blow a hole in the head. The casting is made for gasoline compression pressures. Diesel is already putting more load on it, and then adding a turbo would make that even worse.

    • @fadlistanza8438
      @fadlistanza8438 2 года назад +4

      Maybe with liquid cooled engine

    • @court2379
      @court2379 2 года назад +6

      @@fadlistanza8438Compressing to higher pressures produces even more heat, so yes it would likely be an issue and both will cause a failure. Also you would be pushing more fuel into the cylinder because there is more air in it, which means more energy per cycle and more heat to disapate. This engine just isn't designed to handle those problems, so I don't see it lasting long if a turbo was added. It might not last just being converted to diesel.

    • @92powerdiesel61
      @92powerdiesel61 2 года назад +1

      @@court2379 Diesel's run cooler than gassers do. The compression ignition is harder on components but heat at least NA won't be a factor slap a turbo in the mix and that's a different story.

    • @court2379
      @court2379 2 года назад +1

      @@92powerdiesel61 I'll take your word for it. My guess why that is the case would be that they run at lower rpm for the same power output and so have less combustion cycles to generate heat.
      At the same rpm the fuel has more energy than the same amount of gasoline and the air charge is compressed more which heats it up for ignition, so they should be hotter.

    The higher compression ratio impacts the head and crankshaft, so i wouldn't think this engine would last very long. That's the reason diesels are heavier. Much stronger construction. As well, being a direct injection engine, the diesel spray pattern is horrible beacuse the injector is not centered, and more importantly, the piston doesn't have a cavity in it. (the piston gets hot and helps with combustion which is why this engine smokes). Another issue is that petrol engines have some scavenging happening with overlap between intake and exhaust, diesels use this way less as there is no intake restriction. I bet this engine will probably either blow a head gasket, crack the head, or crack the piston. The lack of a small combustion chamber (squish) is the reason when opening the throttle causes the engine to misfire, as the sudden increase in diesel is cooling too much to fire effectively. A bit more compression ratio, and a properly shaped piston would help immensely, but thats ignoring the fact that the pressures inside a diesel engine are much much higher then a petrol one. I think the piston would be the first to go, as the combustion shape is horrible, and petrol pistons are lighter and thinner then diesels. Not saying this isn't impressive, but its rather impractical.

    You can add something in clearance volume to increase compression ratio instead of this hard step. But remember for reliabilty diesel based engines should be capable of running in high pressuresz so you need strong head, bolts and gasket for high temperatures.

    Also a good advice, never put your hand into the fuel spray of a diesel injector. It vaporises the fuel into so small particles, that it can go into your skin, later causing health issues.

    Wow. You have some major engineering, machining, and fabrication skills to make these engines, and work pretty well. They may not be practical to last a long time but it shows you what could be done if you just want to. 98% of people would tell you that your crazy and it is not possible to convert fridge compressors into a gas engine, or a gas to a diesel engine. But you don't listen to what can't be done and you just do it and prove everyone it can be done. And in your first few videos you used very basic tools and materials. This is the reason you have so many views. It's such a cool idea. I subscribed and everyone else that just watches and doesn't subscribe is foolish. Help this guy out and subscribe. Imagine what he can do with a CNC machine and lathe, and more expensive materials. I appreciate your "find a way to make it work" attitude. Your possibilities are endless.
