I have been undecided about this one, but with the lack of racing games on the switch, I will probably get this. I have Gear Club 1, and was not impressed by the reviews of number 2, so I think this will be the one. It looks pretty smart. The shadow pop in was immediately obvious when I saw some earlier videos, but, its not going to be enough to put me off. I hope there is plenty of content in the game.
Played a few more races handheld using a Porsche and the game definitely shifts along at a real quick pace, its a pretty impressive port IMO. Some things have been sacrificed to get it onto the Switch, but pleased the effort was made and I can live with the downgrades to have it ported! I have GCU2 as well as I said in the video and its better than GC1 for sure, but VR4 trumps it.
I'm on the same boat about GCU2, I liked the 1st one, a good attempt at a racing game and I wasn't expecting nor want a simulator, I like the middle between arcade and simulator, like Project Gotham or the old NFS and Test Drive games. Gonna wait for a sale to get GCU2 and I'm gonna check out VRally too.
Can't wait to get this game, unfortunately I'll have to wait till February to get it here in the U.S. I still play a lot of dirt rally on PS4 and this seems like a cool little version of that game for the switch. Great video!
Thanks for a really good review. I like your style (you sound totally normal!). Can't stand some of the hysterical vloggers. What I really appreciated about your review, was the peek at the replay mode - sold me on the game. It's no Gran Turismo, but I like race replays. Again, good job and subbed you.
@@andrewsmyth8837 Yup for the majority of it. Played a few more multi car races (like buggy races, rally-X etc) and these are prone to major slowdown which is a real shame. Just normal rally's though are brilliant.
Yea, its a bit ropey in places, but as you focussing so hard on just trying to stay on track, it actually works much better than say Gear Club, which is more precise and and a bit sterile when driving, so you kind of have more time to notice the lower graphic levels in that.
Yea the AI are pretty bad in Gear Club (1 & 2) but one thing I really like with V-Rally 4 is that it has a difficulty slider with a HUGE range on it, so you can find the sweet spot for your own skill level. Mine is around 58/100 lol
@@brinda191727 Obviously depends on your personal financial situation and how you value games. If you playing mainly docked, then I think its worth the asking price. If you mainly handheld, then you may want to maybe try a rental or something. Heres a link to some handheld footage, but obviously the Switch - then Twitter will have compressed this, so may not be fair! twitter.com/SwitchdOnGames/status/1073240285662986241
The number indicates steering wheel turn angle benchmark, some rally steering wheels have (or had in the past) benchmarks right on the wheel itself to the left and to the right from the center of the wheel, from 6 to 1. Further from center - smaller the number.
Good video but the game looks horrible. Dirt 2 on my Atom processor Windows table looks and plays a whole generation better than this. Any idea what the fps is on this game? From the video it seems very sluggish with considerable input lag
Nintendo can be depressing at times they come with v rally but wait we cant get in us till feb, everspace came out this month but only digital physical u have to wait next year oh new Assassin's Creed comin out no just 4 people in japan come on nintendo get together
I might get this, looks good!
I'm looking forward to really digging into it later and may put a '2nd impressions' video up!

100x better than GCU2
Graphics look better indeed, but the game is all about time trials no?

Shahed Miah thank you so much!
Thanks for the review. It's good to have a channel dedicated to switch games. I think I'll pick this game up to have a good driving game on switch.
Connor McDonald thank you! Welcome aboard :)
I was thinking about getting this but I think 60 dollars may be a bit much, if it was 40 it would be a definite buy
It's 18 dollars right now for deluxe edition lol
Played it a bit so far, mostly handheld, and it for sure seem to be a good port. Glad to finally have some good racing games on the Switch :)
Yea it holds up pretty well handheld for the most part. Docked obviously looks better, but its certainly playable portably!
I assume its fun too?

I found gear club did too in places and froze once every race and I still enjoyed it. I think I can live with slow down.
andrew smyth dunno it’s pretty rough. I recorded a vid of it earlier and will post later...
sir great video 'how about handheld hows the graphics ?is it blurry
A little bit yea. Not unplayable by any means but I'd say sub 720 for sure. 576p maybe?
This looks great for the li'l ol' Switch :)
It continues to impress! Can look a little bit ropey at times, but gameplay is brilliant!
Looks good but little blurry.. I will probably get this one.

WTF FEBRUARY IN THE US?!?!?
Not only UK but whole europe got it on 13th
Looks good
Looks fine. Not too easy. Gear club is way too easy even with everything set to the hardest and driving assists off.

Awesome game
Is this out on the eshop in the US?
Oddly, not out until early February in the USA! Can always set up an EU account and grab it from here?
@@SwitchedOn Thanks for the tip. What do you think of the game? Is it worth $60 USD?

I think the number next to the turns is difficulty of the turn not what gear you should be in...
Yup, figured that out after a while :) Its like a grading of 1 (very tight) to 6 (almost no curve)

Yea its 30fps with dips. Generally its ok and the input lag isn't that bad tbf.
damn, switch desperately needs better racing games :\
This is good though :) Grid Autosport sometime next year which should be good given Ferral have done a great job of the iOS port.
Worst game ever
