This is so helpful, thank you! The raster images in "Natural Earth II with Shaded Relief, Water, and Drainages" are not as high resolution as I'd prefer. Do you know if there is a source for a better resolution of these that is not pixelated at higher zoom levels? I'm hoping to use these to create historical maps of the ancient world, but I'll need to be able to zoom in more to do that. Thanks!

As far as I know, the only way to get higher resolution terrain images is to create them yourself with data from Open Topography, then add a manual color ramp. I have a video on color ramps that might be helpful. Also see my NPS relief video.

Hi! Thanks for the great info. I have a question about exporting. When I import the large file size of Natural Earth 21,600 x 10,800 pixels and then play around with it and try to export it I cannot export at the original import size. What am I doing wrong?

When you export from the Print Layout window, click on the Layout tab and check the output resolution. You can increase or decrease this to change the final output size.

Thanks for the video! When I import the label layers and activate the text it only reads "Land" and "Minor Island and so on. The "highest points" reads as it should be. I have the Long term release of QGIS. I think it has something to do with my short amount of label options.

Hello, I can't open the files downloaded from Natural Earth... I wanted to dowload 1:10m Natural Earth II raster but it left me having to deal with a prj and a tfw files but QGIS was able to open none. Sorry il I write errors (englisg is not my native language). I would be very happy if someone could help me. Thanks

      Try this download link: www.naturalearthdata.com/http//www.naturalearthdata.com/download/10m/raster/NE2_HR_LC.zip
It's a big file, so it will take some time.

The prj and tfw files are small and get downloaded quickly, but the tif is 119Mb. Once it's downloaded, make sure you unzip it. GQIS should then be able to load the file.
