  • In this video, I thought someone might be interested in this brand of heater and I could give some insight on the subject. This is a wood or coal burning stove. If you have any questions about this stove or how I installed it please feel free to leave a comment. There is also several accessories you can purchase for these stoves, including domestic hot water and thermostatic forced draft. Thanks for watching!

      I have one and it works well although the draft adjustment on the front door is I like it and have no regrets I’m ordering the draft induction kit tonight though so I can keep my house at a more consistent temperature, there $200 online and look to be well worth it

      I like mine. I burn mostly coal. I put a temp regulated vented door on to help get air flow over the top of the coal.

    Awesome video. Where are you getting your air intake on your wood furnace? Mine was pulling air from the room I had it in. A guy seen it and ask where I got my draft air from. He convinced me to hook a air mattress blower up outside and blow outside cold air into the firebox. That’s the way those furnaces are built to drawl their draft. On the rear of the furnace is a square plug. They sell the kit called cold air control motor that bolts into that hole after removing the plug . I wired my air mattress blower to a thermostat in the living area of our house . At 68 degrees it kicks the blower on give the firebox all the oxygen it wants and then 30 seconds later the blowers kick on because the furnace is getting hot. Blows the heat produced up into the living area.
    With the air mattress pump suppling the draft air the draft isn’t sucking in air around the windows or doors. In turn I’m burning less wood because I’m not continuously reheating the cold air that’s being suck into the house and the house seems more comfortable. I wouldn’t of believed it would of made suck a difference unless I actually switch my into of draft air to the outside. The cold air coming straight into the firebox also has more oxygen in it compared to the warm air already in the house

      My chimney has an outside air intake make into it. It is not connected to the stove but it is close to it. U.S. stove sells a kit call a forced draft, I was planning to add that to mine but I went with an outside water stove. You are 100% correct on the efficiency of your system. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the thoughtful video, Glenn. On top of hearing the sounds of home -- in your accent -- I'm loving hearing the thoughts of a fellow self-sufficient southerner ... especially one that's trying to keep "the revenuers" at the electric company out of his life. As I have a friend who owns and uses two (2) of the USS 1557M stoves, I'm somewhat familiar with them ... but what really "caught my ear" in your narration was the modified blower unit. I know that the stove came with twin 550 cfm blower units -- one for each 8-inch output duct -- but how did you go about mounting that monster of a blower unit onto the back of your stove, my friend? Did you say that you got it out of a trailer home? As we're thinking about buying the same stove, I'd be more than happy to read anything you would be willing to share about that great looking upgrade. I'd also like to know if you've ever burned any anthracite coal in your 1557M? Thanks again for your video work, and thank you kindly for your time ~ Red

      Hey buddy, thanks for the comment. I've tried to reply twice and there not showing up in the comments section. I'm trying to figure out what's going on. I'll get back with you and answer your questions.

      I did use a m.h. furnace blower, one without the circuit board to make the wiring simpler. I basically just removed the twin blowers and the filter/blower housing.

    • @GlennConner
      @GlennConner  5 лет назад

      Then I placed the m.h. blower up against the back of the stove covering the 2 holes from the twin blowers and traced a line around it. Then I moved the blower out of the way and drew another line 1" inside the first line.

      Then I cut the inside line out and slid the blower back in place and attached it with sheetmetal screws. And connected the wires and reinstalled the filter/blower housing.

      I know this is kinda vague so if you need anymore details feel free to ask. I have never tried any coal but I've heard people say they would never burn wood again and some say its messy and smelly but I can't say either way. I wouldn't be opposed to trying it though.

    do you run this as a stand alone furnace?

    • @GlennConner
      @GlennConner  4 года назад

      Yes, I did. It was the only source of heat I used. I have installed a waterstove outside now. But the hot blast did give my great service.

    How do you turn on the fan?

    • @GlennConner
      @GlennConner  Год назад

      The fan has a snap disk switch. So once the stove gets hot the fan turns on and runs until the fire goes out.
