    Good evening Andrew. Your comment regarding inter row cultivation and the following boost in growth is interesting as a local large scale vegetable grower has discontinued from using herbicides and changed to inter row cultivating for the majority of its crops because of the better growth and I think reduced costs. The crops are grown mainly with min till. techniques.
    I spent many enjoyable days in the 1960s cultivating winter cauliflowers with a mid mounted cultivator fitted to an Aliss Chalmers model B in the school summer holidays.

    I forgot to say…. in an earlier video, 153 I think you showed us the sprayed of strip around the field boundary, very impressed with that! I remember a farmer called Peter Hepworth advocating something similar but he was spraying out entire hedge bottoms!!
    Your approach is spot on, and very sympathetic to the wildlife. Well done

    Nice job on the hoeing. Row crop cultivation as we call it in the USA, I think needs to make a comeback here as well. Weeds are getting tougher and as you say there is a nitrogen benefit. My grandfather used a front mount cultivator and had track busters on the rear.

    I was wondering if you are a significant person in the NFU and if not would you want to go down that route? You seem to have a solid stance on farming and promoting the benefits of having home produced crops and the mix between protection for wildlife, but also the ability for farmers to function.

    Morning Andrew,
    GM had (and maybe still does) a lot of opposition from activists. Is this the case with GE or are people largely accepting of the advances and advantages now?
    A fascinating insight as usual because you address the issues and not just the tractors and machinery.
    Cheers

      We did it because of the weeds not controlled by the lady herbicide. We only hoed the headlands at the Heath so it’ll be easy to see if it’s made any difference to the beet size.

    I noticed in a recent video you have sterile strips between field and margin to prevent spread of weeds. Is there a video of yours which explains how and when you establish/maintain these please? If not please could you give me some pointers with this? Have you made a hooded sprayer? I can see the value in it especially for the like of Brome encroaching and would like to give this a go

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  Год назад

      We have a 250 litre sprayer on the Polaris ATV with hooded nozzles. We don’t have a set time to do it, just when ever it’s not windy or the drift can make a right mess even with a curtain. I don’t have a video of it as Tom did it when I wasn’t around. We do still have the beet fields to do so will try to get some footage.
