I use tree it and if you put the opacity channel in the A channel of the texture tree it uses that. Also when baking ambient occlusion, the data will be stored in the Alpha channel of the vertex color
You can also create your own branches and render the texture out and use that as your leaves. Make 4 of them and pack into a texture atlas that Treeit comes with. It's simple but pretty powerful with these
Hey Ryan, great tutorial for Treeit. I've been wanting to use the program for ages now, but there was a really bad glitch that caused the program to crash...ALOT. Do you know if this has been fixed now? You seemed to have no problems through the entirety of the tree creation, so that's a promising sign haha.
Hi Ryan, do you know if there is any way to get the stump from it? It exports a stump texture. but can't find a way to grab a stump or would I have to do this in modelling software using the tree? The idea is for a player to cut down a tree but leave a stump where it was.
Thanks really appreciate this. Speedtree is one of the pieces of software we really need a FOSS option for. Do you know of anything comparable to Marvelous Designer?
I know there are some blender plugins that do similar stuff to Marvelous Designer. Not as streamlined, but also not too complicated on those. That's assuming you intend to use blender though lol. I use Marvelous Designer myself so not too familiar if there are any other free alternatives off hand. Sadly google search only suggests Clo which is NOT a free alternative lol, it's basically the same thing just more budget friendly lol. My best guess is the blender plugins are likely the closet tbh.
@@acarria Thanks I appreciate it, I've looked at Clo but I think it is not really for games or animation, more for real garment creation. It would be nice if Marvelous had a perpetual license again.
I think there is an option to increase quality of the leaves. You can also download high quality textures and use them on the tree. Edit: In gimp you can make the opacity mask by bringing one of tree it's leaves textures and then add a layer below it and colour it black. Then you can use the "colourise" tool to make the leaf layer white. Then export and you the original texture for the base colour and the black and white image for opacity mask.

Thank you for this tutorial! Free software are always good to have.

The link in the description leads to some Map creation tool, not TreeIt

This is great! Thank you for covering this tool!
I love your videos but can you please reduce the volume on the first 4 seconds of your videos? It's kind of a little bit loud.
