  • A brand we are all not too familiar with, Proton makes a comeback into the South African market with a revamp in design and tech. They promise better delivery in after sales and quality products. We take a look at the Proton X50 at Eastern Cape Motors to figure out why this car is a best seller in Asia. From double lip diffusers to quad tail pipes, this car is as sporty as you'd want it, but with a 1.5l engine that is only 3 cylinders... how does it perform? We shall find out soon on a Test Drive review.

I drive a proton savvy 2006 and I have been abusing it for 3yrs now. Due to running small businesses without owning a bakkie...I use the car to load anything n everything and to my surprise it is as reliable as a toyota taz and it does not consume lot of fuel. My only problem is finding new parts eix

True. For older models it was quite a challenge to get parts and thats why people didn't have brand loyalty despite its reliability. I think now with better positioning in the industry and strategic partnerships, after sales is much better. We saw the same thing with the Renault Kwid in its early stages. It sold so much beyond Renaults expectations that some parts in the country were not available. And these cars would get in accidents every other day!!
