Just watched this - amazing tutorial, thanks a lot! ;-)
The expand trick is amazing :O I didn't know this was the way to do that. Great tutorial. Thanks Dan!
Dansky, another awesome illustrator tutorial. You have inspired me to learn illustrator. Thanks a million.
+gloving rave You're welcome :) Hopefully this link to all my Illustrator tuts is helpful:

Thanks for yet another great tutorial. I'm crash-learning this stuff as I need to create a few custom placeholder vector pdfs for an iOS app I'm building. In just two tutorials you've gotten me from zero to knowing my way around illustrator. Super easy to follow tutorials and very well explained. I can't thank you enough!!
You're welcome Fareast555, happy to help :D
Great tutorial Dansky. Now I understand exactly how to do pixel perfect icons, thank you :-)
+Ingrid Eckmann Ah super - thanks Ingrid. Glad the tutorial was helpful :)
Great tutorial thanks! I didn't know the 2 px method that will make things a lot easier
Great tips! thank you :)
SUPER USEFUL! THANKS A LOT!
This is really awesome-thank you! I'm wondering, is there a way to un-expand after you've expanded? Sometimes I have to go back and mess with line weights, etc. (So far I've just been saving the pre-expanded version, too.)
Very nice!
Thank you for this
Awesome video Dansky. I just started learning illustrator. Your videos reAlly helpful
G gf vbfbfvdvdd-
Really good, thank you :)
You're welcome :)
Hey Dansky! I noticed that the home button isn't (visually) aligned to the center. Is this because you're using multiples of 2? In which case, what is the solution without getting blurry half-pixel exports?
Thanks!
Hej. Thank you for this vid. I wonder whether is possible to use Pts instead of Pixels to match the icons with the size of whichever font I'm using to combine with? If possible, just chang to PTs and follow the same instruction in this video? Thank you Dansky :)
How do you draw 3d linear icons pixel perfect? When i try using this grid it doesn't really work.
Also when i change the size and stroke the lines mess up.
I'm a complete beginner so do you recommend creating these clear pixel perfect icons in illustrator or sketch ?
if I'm doing a icon pack, what size do i make my artboard? what size do i need to make them? can i make them all in one file? and if yes how can i set up?
Good video. Use CMYK for logos (or anything that will end up on paper) since color printers use that format
So when I export to an svg it exports not my desired site of 46x46 but to what the visible parts of the graphic takes up. How can i export to an svg 46 x 46?
Your all video of UI is very nice
Wow this is an amazing tutorial! I'm quite a beginner here. I wonder if I want to create vectors in Illustrator (probably more complicated ones in the future), would you suggest using wacom tablet or mouse?
Hey Jeje. Personally, I love using a Wacom tablet when working in Illustrator, particularly for designing icons, logos or illustrations that involve curves, swirls, or bespoke lettering. It's a bit more expensive than a mouse, but worth it in my opinion :)
Do you have to know what size your icons are going to be in before you make them? Is it possible to create icons that can be scaled however you need?
For some reason are the objects not connecting together, they get a different shape. How can I fix that? Great tutorial btw
thank you
Welcome Sam!
What did you name the file extension ?
I can not make proper size icons. when I publish it, its became too small. what would be the actual stroke width when I make icon with 32 x 32 pixel? please help me.
Nice Video
Can someone help me find a similar video that shows me how to:
1 - import a Material Design svg and make modifications
My pixel grid squares are huge? How do I change this. I've set my artboard to 60 by 60px and used the same settings you did in this video.
+JoWhKeJo Hey, if you go to Illustrator preferences, then down to 'Guides & Grid', you can set the 'Gridline every' and 'Subdivisions' both to 1. Hope this helps :)
Just had this same issue!!! Now fixed. Cheers Dansky!
@@ForeverDansky same problem here, but moreover cant find the preferences menu
just found out-in edit section, on e more question how to go in preview mode?
When i scale it down as is, strokes and lines, it works, when i Expand and Unite, it gets distorted. Illustrator CC 2015. Apparently, it depends on the shape reference point. I've played with this, changing the reference point, and i am not getting consistent results. I am getting all kinds of weird results, it doesn't work at all. Maybe i need to reset the Ilustrator. This only reminds me of my love-hate relationship with it. It's like it was written by the demons of Hell who are just after your sanity.
Can i know what size suitable for single vector
Very helpful tutorial. I can't see 'Align new objects to pixel grid' option in my new document pannel on adobe illustrator cc 2019. Can you help me figure out?
they should be automatically aligned unless you select different option under snap options under "properties" window
When I resize rounded rectangles the corners become distorted. How are you preserving yours?
Distorted, as in not smooth curves? I typically use the 'Direct Selection Tool' to drag over the corners I want to edit and move the anchor points this way. Alternatively, you can create a normal straight-edged Rectangle, and apply rounded corners to it using 'Effect > Stylize > Rounded Corners'. The corner radius can then be further edited (or removed) from the 'Appearance' Palette. Hope this helps :)
wholewurld You are most likely facing this problem (like me) if you're using a version of AI below CC.
Is it just me, or is your home and speaker button unaligned?
Well spotted! Dammit, I can't stop noticing it now :P
your designs are cool but i was waiting you to explain how to save them in order to keep the ratio (preventing from saving to png format with the vector ratio)
i second this
I have an icon with two different colors and it puts them together in one color
Hey, I don't know why, but I followed it right and my phone looks weird at the corners.
how to get into preview mode ?
i also want to know about it
I can't see the canvas option.
I left clicked on the canvas but nothing happen no properties showed up.
amazing tutorial as always. Dan I want you advice on something, could you please drop me your email?
