Its always the best to play in the original, though I wish there is a proper English cover for this song as a tribute to Viktor Tsoi. Viktor Tsoi and his band Kino are legends!! And the world should know them!!
It refers to the blood type marked on a soldier's sleeve, so it would take less time to check his blood type before receiving a blood transfusion if he is seriously injured during battle.
Tsoi said that the problem with music was that no one wanted to take chances. He wanted to experiment with lyrics and music in order to create something fresh that no one had ever heard before.
[Verse 1] It's such a warm place But there on the street Where our footprints are waited for Stardusted boots Sparkle and shine Here are the shepherds and upholstered chair Dazzling dreams below the bright sun, orb The trigger untouched When it was the right time [Chorus] My blood type mark is on the sleeve There's my ordinal number marked on the sleeve Wish me now some luck in the fight Sayin' now, sayin' I won't stay in this field of green I won't stay in this field of green Wish me now to be lucky Sayin' now, sayin' Be lucky [Verse 2] I'm able to pay, but I never want A triumph at any price I never want Someone's chest lying under my foot I would rather stay here with you Just to stay here with you But the star which is high in the skies Still gives me the route [Chorus] My blood type mark is on the sleeve There's my ordinal number marked on the sleeve Wish me now some luck in the fight Sayin' now, sayin'! I also tried to translate the lyrics, tried to keep the rhythm, too: [It's a] warm place here but the streets have been waiting for our footprints, stardust... on our boots. Cushy armchair, checkered rug, deadly trigger not pulled... Sunny day... in dazzling dreams. My blood type is on my sleeve, my ID number is on my sleeve. Wish me luck in battle, wish me... not to stay in the grass, not to stay in the grass, Wish me luck, wish me-ee luck. I can make revenge, but I do not want victory at all costs. I don't want to... set foot on anyone's chest. I would like to stay with you, just stay with you. But that star high in the sky... is calling me to set forth. My blood type is on my sleeve, my ID number is on my sleeve. Wish me luck in battle, wish me... not to stay in the grass, not to stay in the grass,. Wish me luck, wish me-ee luck. Basically the song is about someone who would like to live a quiet life but he has to go on fighting for his ideals, after some short rest (IMO). And this one is not Viktor Tsoy singing this song.
Blood Type by Victor Tsoy, with Kino [the band's name]. Great song, no matter what the language. Then again, since the names are in Russian: Виктор Цой и Кино. Awesome singer, awesome band. Anyone that liked this song should also listen to more of their works. I personally recommend "Звезда По Имени Солнце", or in English, "Star named sun."
I think, western people do not understand, as Victor Choi is a product and phenomenon of culture of Saint Petersburg! Yes, I could to see Choi! He sings about to readiness becomes soldier, to protect own spiritual principles, The blood type is on my sleeve - it is My sequence number on my sleeve in the line-up of soldiers, Also as artilleryman officer Leo Tolsoy and the military engineer Dostoevsky!
Tony StalkerMan English vs Russian, obviously he sang it much better in Russian.. but that doesn't translate to English directly... and I agree that in Russian it is better
Tony StalkerMan Well, the translation is not the best. It's Tsoi after all. He is an incredible poet, but the singer does imitate him rather well. My parents who were born in the Soviet Union and grew up during the new wave explosion were actually very impressed with this version even if they didnt understand a word. Nah, you don't need to learn the language to feel it. Sometimes it's just that it sounds good when a singer sings in a language they're very comfortable with. In Tsoi's case, it's Russian.
Obv I think the Russian version is way better. However, I am lolling at the comments where people are basically saying that Tsoi would be rolling in him grave.. then someone points it this is Tsoi who translated and singing it himself... lol. I'm sad that it is so hard to buy their music here in UK...
It's a word for word translation, which takes away from the original meaning a great deal. However, a non-word-for-word translation would also corrupt the meaning. A decent effort, though, but I must agree: in its original language, it is better...

it's referring to dog tags I think , and also the serial number on his sleave, or if the translations I have seen for it. I think its sorta like how American soldiers and others put their blood type on their body.
This is an original song, sung by Viktor Tsoi specially for the concert in the U.S.
