Takes me back to my childhood when my grandmother would take me on bus rides into town to shop. When would visit my mom on her lunch break. Back when the port authority of Allegheny County had all fishbowls
I had the pleasure of operating a coach like this in the early 80’s. I worked for a transit agency in Los Angeles county, and was fortunate enough to be able to operate this beautiful coach picking up passengers.
With the old high sulfur fuel, I loved the exhaust smell as a kid! I could listen to those 6v71's all day. I must say I'm "green" with envy! That's for showing this wonderful piece of history.
My biggest two memories of these buses are just how seriously loud they were and about half of them were running around with their rear engine bay doors flapping around and every time a bus pulled away from a stop the doors would swing open 1 or 2 feet.
I spent many many hours in those vehicles. Washington DC (DC Transit) was buying those buses as fast as they could be made. Hard to believe how nice it was to ride in Air conditioning during the humid how Washington DC summers. And the air ride made those horrible DC streets like velvet smooth roads
The San Juan AMA fishbowls from 1962 thru 1968 have the same configuration, 35ft. unit, blue color or golden brown. Later, the 1976 units receive 6v71 and Allison 730, the others with VS2. 1976 receive blue and white and red and yellow color
That is a beautiful, GM "fishbowl" in incredibly nice condition inside and out. How is it that a transit bus that old has such relatively low mileage? Thanks for sharing!
This bus was purchased new by the Ohio Highway Patrol who used to transport Swat officers. They didn’t use it a whole lot because it only has 60,000 original miles.
All GM buses had transverse engines. Those were a 6V-71 engines which were a V6 turned so both cylinder heads were accessible from the rear. For major service, the entire engine and transmission could be removed easily on its cradle. A new or rebuilt engine could be reinstalled in a few hours.
I live in Los Angeles California I would like to get the bus brought out here if it can be done and it can make arrangements as soon as I can come up with the money
She is a Beauty. but i’m looking for one to Convert and she is too nice to rip apart i’m sure someone will snap her up fast as good of shape as she is in
Son los camiones que les llaman "Chimecos" en Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl, eran muy ruidosos y contaminaban mucho, ahora ya hay puras microbuses y camiones nuevos
En El Norte De México Se Usaron Mucho Estos Autobuses Más En Tijuana Baja California Como Azul y Blanco Verde y Crema ABC Tres Estrellas De Oro y Norte
Beautiful bus in beautiful condition. But there's almost no market for them. Guys like me who collect old Fishbowls look to pay $5000 to $20,000 for them. Certainly this one is worth a premium but who's buying? I'm trying to buy a Fishbowl right now that's been restored from the ground up. We're haggling in the $25,000 range.
The market is certainly small and it's a niche community. This bus is listed for so much because not only is it fully restored but it only has 40,000 original miles on it which is near impossible to find in one of these buses. Who knows if anyone will end up buying it. Once in a while we rent it out for movies in NYC.
Do you still have this bus for sale I will be coming in money soon in the next couple months I should have about $2,000 to come up with the money for down payment on this bus if you still have it 🤔
These buses were the mainstay of every city in the United States 🇺🇸 and Canada 🇨🇦. The best ever bus hands down.
Yes!
toasty in low minus twenties even, no duct ever scorched either one of your boots, plus snowdrifts barely ever slowed them either 🍸
the sweeping rear windscreen without any air con unit would make you feel you be riding some gondola 🍸
I never thought of a bus as cool and attractive, till I saw this.

@@busesforsale3116 you’re welcome! 🙂
That 73 GM TDH 4523A Fishbowl is gorgeous love the color scheme of it too

Would that have been Southern California Rapid Transit District?
That's awesome! Hopefully you weren't on duty when that crazy cop jumped that gap in the freeway with one! Haha

Gorgeous looking bus. 😊
I drove these "Fishbowls" out of Philly. (Septa) in the late 70's they were so worn out and ready for the junk yard.
Amazing .... What a Great Bus.. I would buy it in a heart beat if i had the funds.. Hope it goes to a good home
We rode these buses to school and downtown and go joyriding during the summer it brings back old memories of my childhood days in the 60s
Worked on these when I first got into mechanics. Simplistic engineering and built to last not like the plastic ones today.
Great video and bus. LOL 3:01 "Dont smoke", 3:35 Smoke.
Detroit Diesel the like sonds 6V71N ends an Alison VS-2 speed
Wow, beautiful bus! 🚍🚌

That's exactly how I remember them when they were first added to the New York City fleet... The first to sport the purple color rather than green.
never e v e r bored by its design that was cleverly safeguarded no matter the particular size of the model 👏💋
I'm a tram and I approve this video!!!!

@@busesforsale3116 Thanks for the answer to my question. The bus is like a lot of municipal vehicles, such as fire trucks, having low mileage.
Like new, refurbished and restored, to put in service
A classic old school bus.
Is this philly? Cause on the top it’s says 69th Street Terminal
Nice I love that bus 👍🏾
The condition it's in is quite impressive. It looks like it's 96 inch width due to the one-piece rear window. No stars on the ceiling though🌠
Great old bus😮
Wow that thing is clean
Chulada de camión
glad about stopping at level crossings being obligatory for buses hereabouts 👀
Wow they mounted the engine transversely. Probably hard to service tho.

You ran that railroad crossing which is serious offense in some states

Sounding like AC Transit and other Transit Agencies.
This type of back door sick.
Speed 2525 is the best¡
Whats the serial on this unit?
Does it have Air Conditioning??
do you still have unit 161 this bus?
Always wondered were those Exhaust Outlets on the rear Side Windows?
The exhaust is on the left side, pointed upwards. The engines air intake is on the right side
I used to have one and I like to get one again if this one still available for sale?
Yes! www.busesforsale.com/bus/4220-1973GMTDH4523A

This is in PA ?? And it's still that nice ?? What's the back story on it ??
It was owned by the Ohio Highway Patrol and only had 49,000 original miles when we bought it. The current mileage is still pretty close to that.
man is that beautiful!
Thank you! We're glad you think so!

@@busesforsale3116. This bus would be best preserved in a museum, and taken out annually for a parade.
If only I had obtained some bitcoin way back when...
How much?
beautiful bus is the same model from keanu reeves and sandra bullock's movie maximum speed from 1994 someone correct me if i'm wrong

Yes! It is! We actually have a Speed movie poster hanging in our office.
Actually, the "Speed" bus was a 40-foot GM fishbowl. This one is a 35-footer.
Prices
I really thought the dude had a mask on
So it's nickname is "fishbowl " since the windshield bubbles out and the bus looks like a fish 🐟
I'd purchase that and convert it into a replica of bus 2525 from 'Speed'.
